I want to add something . This device is great, but it does have a overheating issue with continuous use, which as a safety causes the battery to cease charging. Well, the battery charging is a big part of the overheating so removing it will also help that issue if this is a primary device for home internet. Mine got so hot that I began having huge ping spikes, and upload speeds crashed. Removed the battery, it runs cooler, and no issues!

Thanks for this video! I purchased one for my motorhome to use in conjunction with my Blink security system when parked in storage. After just a couple of days in operation the unit would keep turning off on its own even though it was plugged in to a USB charger full time. I removed the battery as you described in your video and problem solved! Appears the unit is trying to prevent the device from over charging, kills the USB power, then drains the battery until its dead, which then turns off the unit. Appreciate the tip in your video for solving my problem.

I have an MR1100 and also an LB1120. For use as a home internet solution I think that LB1120 is a better choice for most people. The LB1120 seems to have slightly better wireless data reception when the signal is only "fair". In those cases the LB1120 can actually be faster on a 4G connection even though the LB1120 does not have the fancy carrier aggregation and 4x4 MIMO that the MR1100 does. However, if you have a strong 4G signal, or you have external MIMO antennas plugged in, the MR1100 is typically much faster. Another big advantage that LB1120 has it that it can be mounted remotely and powered via PoE or with DC voltage and it will always come up turned on if you lose power to it. With the LB1120, just leave the power switch in the ON position and it always comes up when power is restored. The MR1100 does not lend itself to remote installation (such as in a box on an antenna mast) because it must be manually turned on when power goes off and is then restored.
@MrJaquan8115 жыл бұрын
So the lb1120 is better then the m1 nighthawk

You basically mention all the features that people should ALREADY know about. You didn't mention that it has 2 external TS-9 Antenna jacks (2 Black rubber bars near the USB and Ethernet Ports) so you can hook up outdoor external antennas to a pole and get perfect signal which is ideal if you are going to use this primarily for home internet. You also didn't mention that you can use the hotspot to charge other devices (Which is one of the reasons for the big battery) and finally you didnt mention that you can use it to share files via plugging a USB Flash drive to the Hotspot.

@JamesMccorn6 жыл бұрын
G-Man hi yes hrmmmm let me see.... ok here I go. You seem to know what you're talking about. First off if you have caps on your data plan this would be a very bad idea. ATat changed their plans to put caps on this hotspot so unless you have there grandfathered unlimited plus plans its not going to end well. Second fail over is great for business where after the work day as you can reset to the primary connection. I have yet to see a internet sensing router switch back to the primary internet after a fall over. As most don't want to disrupt traffic. You might want to look into speedify. A software that "bonds" connections together. Sure it's slower then a pure pipe but sure beats reloading websites for your household. Cheers

However the complexity would boggle most end users. But I'll list it here for you to try. To bypass atat's Nat and the routers Nat to get type one NAT would require your Xbox or ps4 to sit behind a computer that is running a vpn. That way when ever the ps4 or Xbox asked for the internet it would go though the pc first then put through a vpn and then the internet. @JamesMccorn7 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, if you have the Unite Explorer you should be good for another 2 years. When At&T deploys 4x carrier bonding tech and upgrades the fiber backlinks to their towers in your neck of the woods you should be fine. I upgraded from a Unite Explorer as I wanted the upgraded modem that the Nighthawk offers and wanted the gigabit port (I live on hardlines). To directly address your speed question I live in an urban environment where my average speed on the unite explorer was about 30 to 60 mbps symetrical. with the nighthawk im getting the same speed.
@waynegranzin38247 жыл бұрын
we just traded in the unite explorer for the nighthawk (we were still on our 14 day trial period with the at&t hotspot service) simply on the merit of being able to serve BOTH 2.4 and 5ghz devices simultaneously. rather than one or the other. so far, (here in chappell hill texas) seeing SOME, but not dramatically better speed performance. going to investigate mimo antennas this next week to see what we can do about upping our speeds.

I just upgraded from Unite Explore to M1. Unite Explore was able to also do both simultaneous 2.4 and 5. There is also the same setting in the M1. Internet performance wise, the two are identical in my area. I got the M1 for the ethernet port as well as the type-C port. Both are not as stable as a dedicated router though. When at home, I'll feed the output to a dedicated router which is more stable and also has a stronger signal. The more wireless devices connected to the hotspot.

Can confirm that that's a gigabit LAN port. ethtool on Linux on a computer with gigabit LAN plugged into this modem's LAN port reports a gigabit full duplex link.

Bro, if using the modem without battery, does it will burn the usb port or motherboard? because in aircard 790s had that issue. Is it safe to use without battery?
@JamesMccorn7 жыл бұрын
Hi Thasvin, I have not experienced any burned USB port issues for my own hotspot. Australia has had the hotspot for over a year and if any issues like USB burn occurred they would have reported it by now. However, just to be sure when you buy it to pick up the optional insurance that att provides. It's more peace of mind on top of the hardware warrenty provided by netgear. Also usb c standard is rather new so 3rd party manufacturers can make cables that fry your electronics. if you want to make sure your new hotspot lasts a very very long time be sure to pick up a cable recomended by a google engineer plus.google.com/+BensonLeung . Let me know if this helped. - James

What about using an extended or booster? Can you do a video that explains the best way to use one?
@JamesMccorn6 жыл бұрын
Jean Boddie hi Jean, the nighthawk has two 2x mimo ports at the bottom for external antennas. Without getting too complicated, netgear sells a directional antenna that you just point in the direction of the cell tower to boost the signal to the device. Normal rules apply for boosters or external antenna. The higher it is up in the air and the further away it is from interference (ie trees, buildings blocking line of sight to the tower) the better it will work in getting a good signal. This can get crazy complicated with signal interference with boosters due to feed back loops so most of the time people go with external antenna for their homes or rv's. I personally have both (due to living in a hole in the earth) but I find that I use neither as the internal antennas work best for when I use the device. By the by the nighthawk has a 4x mimo internal antenna which will be faster then any externally attached directional antenna . However if you get no signal an external 2x mimo antenna is better then no signal.

I've had a Wilson cellular extender for several years. It has an external antenna, an amplifier and the re-transmission unit. It doesn't cover the whole house (as they advertised). In fact it only helps in a 5' radius around the re-transmitter. I put the MR1100 next to the re-transmitter and get 5 bars. Without the Wilson only 1 or 2. The external Wilson antenna is on a tripod on my deck aimed at the nearest tower --- 11 miles away in the hills and forests of Mark Twain National Forest. I hesitate to recommend the Wilson (price, promises), but I also can't operate without it.

I just received the NH mobile hotspot today 11-2-17 , I bought it from ATT to use in my van as a mobile unit and will never move it from the van. Also have been looking at homes in Fla that has no internet available, have you tested the up/download speed? Good vid thanks.
@JamesMccorn7 жыл бұрын
Hi Buzz, my thoughts are, if your going to use it in the van get a external car antenna as a big metal box (a car) absorbs LTE signals before they get to your device. That being said, the modem in the hotspot is stupid fast. When atat rolls out 5g evolution (next year) nation wide it will support it. As for day to day I live in a urban environment and my speed will be different from yours. But I'm able to get on average with 1 to 2 bars 30mbps down 20 up. Glad you liked the video. Let me know if you have any further questions as well. - James

AT&T doesn’t care what you do with the battery. Regarding what “AT&T won’t tell you,” remember that AT&T probably doesn’t know. They aren’t a power user resource such as a tech tip channel.

symbians60user well having traveled alot I've learned that the speed posted is not what you get. As carriers unthrottle speed tests on purpose. In using the M1, are you putting a router in front of it (double NAT with regards to the M1 and your possible router) or are you just using it straight on your network? I'm trying to get the Home Base up and running using it on my network (no router between it and my network) and using another router as a bridged access point for WiFi hoping to get around the 10 device limit. Not having much luck so far. While I'll have more time to play with it over the weekend, I'm starting to wonder if the 10-device limit is an actual limit on the number of devices, regardless of how they are connected, to the Home Base vs a limit on the number of Wi-Fi connected devices (which I was hoping it was - thus the secondary AP). While I can put another router in between the Home Base and my network, I'd really rather find a way to otherwise get this working rather than to needlessly double-NAT it. I've toyed with the idea of having the Home Base on my network just as a gateway and maybe have DHCP hosted on my re-purposed router acting as a AP. Just curious how you have yours sorted. Thanks.

@JamesMccorn7 жыл бұрын
GranGranOgraphy good question. Atat deprioritizes on a second by second approach after you cross their data soft limit. So the way it works is if you are in the woods and the only one on the tower you won't get deprioritized. If your like me and in a urban area you are going to feel it.

I bought this thing unlocked, and obtained a SIM from ATT, however because I wasn't grandfathered into a contract with them, I decided to opt out and go with Verizon. I went to Verizon shortly after deactivating my ATT account, to get a connection with them, and they had it working at the store, as soon as I got home. I started getting the error message "Mobile Broadband Disconnected" "Your data connection is disconnected" .. I"ve reset the router a few times, to factory mode. I've confirmed all the settings are back to factory on the router's settings. Anyone else having this issue? I'm thinking it might be happening because I switched from ATT to Verizon, but wasn't sure. Can anyone help?
