Congratulations for the 200th program. Luckily I happen to watch most of it with so much of interest. As Prof Raj mentioned correctly the name Sri Lanka was given to the island recently. I’m not sure what made to change the real name of it. Ceylon is the exact name of our island. Last Sunday I went to South Melbourne market and had some iced tea they make. When I asked for the best tea out of so many different varieties they had, the girl there told me the best they have is something known as Ceylon tea. Then I told her that I’m originally from SL which is Ceylon. Unfortunately they (new generation) don’t know that Ceylon is Sri Lanka. They think it’s a brand name. See how we have lost our unique identity we had with the name Ceylon by changing it into a foreign influential name like Sri Lanka. “Sri” is something which came from south India, isn’t it? Can you explain how & why this name got changed? Why can’t we change it back to the original one at least by now? Everyone all around the world knows about Ceylon tea. That itself be a good promoter of tourism to our island if the name hadn’t been changed. - Nuwan be kind enough to remind Prof Raj to give an explanation. 😊
