But how difficult is it to imagine that it would be much easier to work at room temperature with a fine chisel made out of high-carbon steel than to be carving on a sizzling block of granite. ( with what -a coconut shell tool? ) It is much more likely that our ancient tradesmen shaped rock because of the advances in the metallurgy they had had -and not through some kind of "alchemy" applicable to minerals.
