@@Slavicplayer251 Yes I know. I was pointing out why it would be pretty dumb to use chemical weapons in this war. If they didn't have the cybernetic breathing enhancements, among others, then, yes, absolutely use bugspray. Considering their apparent outlook and attitude, the collateral could be worth it. But with the cybernetic enhancements, it would be very unlikely to be effective. So they're off the table unless/until we know exactly how their breathing enhancements work. Then we can work around them.

The Win M97 is more like an AK in tactical/logical views for deployment. Cheap, reliable, and powerful. why arm only 100 soldiers with AA-12s when for the same price you can arm 300, as pointed out the AA-12 is prone to jamming in such engagements, so instead of having 250 soldiers fighting because they don't need to reload or clear a jam, instead of 80.

All this and ww1 slam fire trench guns are badass
@alganhar1
@alganhar1 Жыл бұрын
@@reven199 No, actually, they were not. The myth of slam firing trench shotguns is just that, a myth. It was literally invented by a single American Journalist. The problem? The problem was actually the ammunition. Shotgun shells in WWI were not the same as modern shotgun shells, they were made of a thick waxed paper. The troops issued with the shotguns were also not issued bandoliers, so had to carry that sensitive ammunition loose in pockets or pouches. This led to a high incidence of damaged rounds, leading to very high feed failures and misfires. To make matters worse, have you ever BEEN to North West Europe where the Americans fought in WWI? I have, I live there, UK to be exact. It rains here, a lot. Humidity is generally fairly high even on cool days. Know what rain or humidity does to those old shotgun shells if they are improperly stored? It causes, at best, casing swell, at worse it soaks the shell, causing, you guessed it, misfeeds and misfires. Most American soldiers issued with shotguns 'lost' them as soon as they were unsupervised for more than a few seconds and replaced them with Springfield 1903's or Enfield 1917's so they at least had a weapon that would reliable fire after the first round. So sorry to burst your bubble. If shotguns were so effective in combat they would still be used in combat. They are not. They have niche uses, in forcing entry situations for example, or in the hands of prison guards (a shotgun is VERY intimidating to an unarmoured individual). In actual combat however, it is of limited use in virtually any terrain you can think of with the possible exception of thick jungle, where it might have some use. Because at the end of the day, here is a little consideration, do you honestly think nations who had fought WWI from 1914 had NOT tried shotguns? Oh they had, and discarded them after initial trials because of the points I highlighted. There is evidence for example of several platoon level experiments in the British Army in 1916 with semi automatic shotguns, and they proved so disappointing they were never issued to actual combat troops. Yes, they performed so poorly in tests at home the British never even considered issuing them to fighting troops..... The idea that the Americans had 'stumbled' across a weapon that no one else in the world had considered when it came to Trench warfare is laughable and frankly wrong. The ONLY use the British found for shotguns in the trenches was fowling pieces for taking down messenger pigeons, and even then they considered it a waste of time arming a single man with an otherwise useless weapon when the SMLE would do the job just fine..... EDIT: The king of trench clearing in WWI was not the shotgun, it was the hand grenade. Its why HALF of a British Infantry platoon in WWI were designated Grenadiers, and ALL of the others carried spare grenades for the Grenadiers.... The French and Germans were more or less the same.....

Yeah. Insectoids with a hard carapace and a bunch of combat cybernetics aren't going to 'explode into bits' from a regular shotgun. They are effective against us because we are soft fleshbags and it doesn't take much to penetrate and do significant internal damage; but against anything tougher I would say they have next to no penetration and nowhere near the power to explode anything into pieces.

The 50 cal Browning Machine Gun already fires a round similar in size to the 12 gauge shotgun. With a minor modification to the chamber, a larger smooth bore barrel, and non necked down 50 cal BMG brass you would have a ready made shotgun machine gun. You basically keep the majority of the Browning, machine the chamber for a 4 gauge all brass shell, and mount a 4 gauge smooth bore barrel. Your typical 12 gauge shot shell has 8-12 00 pellets, a 4 gauge would have between 32-48 00 pellets. This is a literal wall of lead and that's just one shell. Assuming a stable fire rate of 450 rpm that's 14400 to 21600 00 pellets being sprayed in the enemy's direction. From one gun. At that volume of lead, spread does not matter and effective range could be 100+ yards. 3 or 4 tripod mounted positions with decent ammo supply and those Bugs basically walk into a blender.

@alganhar1
@alganhar1 Жыл бұрын
No, actually the Americans were NOT using them like that. They tried, but the shotguns kept failing. Not because of the shotgun itself, but the ammunition. 1917 - 1918 shotgun ammo is NOT like modern shotgun shells, they were made of waxed cardboard. These things were carried loose in pockets or pouches, which meant an extremely high likelihood of them being damaged through normal combat activities (like diving for cover), or through getting damp. You ever been to North Western Europe? It rains here, a lot. Humidity is generally high. End result? A misfire of feed failure rate for those shotguns that was frankly dangerous to the USER, not the enemy, the user. American troops quickly learned to 'lose' their shotgun and 'borrow' a rifle that would actually fire more than one round before misfiring or jamming. The King of Trench Clearance in WWI was not the shotgun, it was the hand grenade. There is a REASON a third of a British, French or German Infantry Platoon by 1918 were Grenadiers, and everyone in the platoon carried a bag of grenades, either to throw themselves, or to replenish the Grenadiers. These were armies that had fought in those trenches for FOUR years. You HONESTLY think they did not consider shotguns? They did, the British Musketry School experimented with them in 1915 and 1916, and found them so unsatisfactory they were never issued to front line troops even on a trial basis.

Ngl, kinda wish they hag Gen 12 Shotguns instead of good ol' Trench Sweepers. More reliable full auto shotties compared to AA-12s, and they're capable of rivalling minigun levels of Rounds Per Minute considering how many pellets they can put downfield. Add a capable range of 100 Meters if you just don't care and you've got a damn good shottie for war. Although, nothing says "fuck you" quite like the Winchester 1897 slamfiring buckshot into your torso to rip you in half.

Against soft fleshbags like humans, buckshot is lethal. Against insectoids with a tough exoskeleton and combat cybernetics I would be surprised if they would even notice it.

M134s and the bigger auto-cannons like gau-19, m61, gau-12 and gau-8 can saturate an area with fire rates varying from around 1000 rounds per minute to 6000 rounds per minute. The boomsticks are cool but it sounding like the air in front of you is being unzipped to unleash hell would be cool too.
