Aaron, great to hear you have plans for more engine building. I cannot help with drag racing, but I will say that I got much satisfaction out of blueprinting my engine starting about a year ago after I had suspicions that all was not right with it. Turns out the rocker wipe pattern had not been set properly and I wasted a cam and rockers. Gave me the excuse to pull everything apart and put it back together myself. I did rings and bearings, honed the cylinder myself, ported and polished the head with a dremel tool, skimmed the pistons with a lathe, got the leaking oil pan and front cover fixed, plus seals in the diff and trans. I invested in the tools to measure the bores, pistons and crank, gapped the rings, new higher lift cam with different valve guide seals for clearance (made an installation tool). Been back together and driving regularly, no oil leaks and runs stronger than ever. I thought I might need a machine shop to help with removing and replacing the pistons on the rods and machining the pistons, but I did everything in the garage. Made a fixture for the lathe and for pressing the rods on the pistons. Anyway, with all the experience and knowledge you have gained over the years I think you will really enjoy making each part work as well as it can. For me, the best part was saying "I have always wanted to try..." and then just doing it.

Thanks Keith. I plan to do as much as I can myself agin, probably a bit more than I did when I originally built the engine together in 2009. The toleranced machining I’ll leave to the experts. I’m a lot wiser now and know my limits haha

Lots of L powered S30s drag race in Japan. I have a 70' 240Z set up for 1/4 mile but it's Ford 302 swapped with an 8.8 LSD rear-end out back on ladder bars. Ran 11.54 @ 124mph NA back in 2010. Good times man!

Hey mate please get yourself a adjustable timing gear to dial in the cam. Large gains to be had Stewart Wilkins has ones.

Cheers mate. An adjustable gear is definitely on the list for the build.

Your making some really good power from that engine as is. If you want more power though, L series is not the way sadly.

I think I have to disagree. There are a number of examples making much more power than my own motor and well set up with ETs in the low 10s. I think a number of them competed in the ‘Pro NA’ category and Japan’s drag fest this year at Sendai highlands.

@@kyushaspeed just checked those out, pretty quick stuff. Gotta remember those are the absolute pinnacle of what the L will do though, race gas only, rebuild after a few passes. The red one was smoking real bad on that last pass.

hey i just started working at a drag strip(1/4) I'm sorry a disability is hindering you enjoyment. possible you can go to an event at a track that doesn't require a license. schools and one off events. im going to try to get one of my Z down the track so maybe we can have a little contest on who is the fastest.
