I’d love to see a Julian Krause review of this high end audio interface. Given the quality and rich core features, i thought it was a little puzzling they went with a USB 2.0 profile on the USB-C, and didn’t include more actual mic preamps at that price point.
@JC-fj7oo
@JC-fj7oo Жыл бұрын
I'm assuming he won't for at least a while. He usually looks for good deals in AI's, and while this is a neat high end option, it's $2000. Even the $200 interfaces are giving specs above what microphones can realistically record anyway. Heck this year we're seeing 32bit recording which can record higher dynamic range than air can physically create. So... If it has features you want/need, get it. If not, spend the 1600 dollars you save on upgrading something else. Personally, besides price, I would say the main problem with this is the touch screen. Even good touch screens don't last forever and unlike knobs which can be replaced for a few dollars, the screen basically is the whole unit. It's also only 24bit, which is fine, but considering budget units are rolling out 32 bit... And most of the "features" are just vst that you probably already have for free in your daw. Realistically I think they just took the neumann name and put together a decent product that they know people will buy just because of the name.
@LesterWayneDobos
@LesterWayneDobos Жыл бұрын
Made the investment. Being able to see a preamp screen select-deselect, navigate etc rotary turn gain, plus a cut (mute) mic makes it easier stepping in/out of the vocal booth for me. For the monitors too, one button mute and a dim button which is fancy button for (lower volume) kind of like a light. Lot of nice features. Feels solid, like something you wouldn't leave laying around by your desk while you're gone. The preamp swept me away, I thought I had a new mic so dang clear. With plenty of gain left, had mine at 50% for vocals. You can also compress, limit, and eq your vocals before they get to your daw. Definitely a step up if you are looking to take your music in that direction.

I'm willing to bet with the Neumann name behind it they are gonna get WAYYYY more traction then merging tech was able to get on their own. like sure the Anubis is amazing and don't even get me started on the Hapi, but I'll bet you 90% of pro engineers haven't even heard of Merging Tech, ask any engineer you know (who isn't a classical engineer or a mastering engineer) if they have heard of Merging or Pyramix. Now Neumann on the other hand... That's a name the kid down the street with a behrenger mixer and a couple of busted sm58 knows about and aspires to own. VERY excited to see if this partnership between Merging tech and Neumann continues to develop! Lets just hope Neumann (or sennheiser for that matter) continue to give merging tech developmental freedom. really cool stuff coming from that company.

Wow! That dynamic range makes this the ideal interface for amp capturing or profiling via Tonex or NAM. All we need is a software converter for the various capturing platforms. We could then capture an amp with NAM and then convert the captures for play back on any of the various platforms, i.e., Kemper, Quad Cortex, Tonex or Headrush.

I'm an RME guy and the Neumann honestly isnt too impressive in my opinion. Have you looked into the Babyface or Fireface UCX lines? They're at least as powerful as this, with the possible exception of dynamic range. RME is tried and true, been rock solid in my Windows 10 studio for years. I've got a UFX II and it's an absolute beast, 30x30 channels for not much more than this with even more functionality especially when recording a large group. I can set everyone up with their own headphones mix and give each person control of their mix from a free app. Pretty awesome stuff!

@@steven_porter I know about the ucx line and I am a digiface dante user. I have listened to the Merging Technology Anubis before and I can say that maybe only rmes true flagship can compete the sound quality of this one… In terms of other aspects like routing,if u know how to route with dante you will understand how much more powerful an AES67 system will be. But again,its all about the need. If anything u have on ur hand works perfect for you then keep on using it.

Neumann may have slapped their name on this unit, but it is obvious all the technologies in it are from Merging Technologies. The case, GUI, preamps, basically everything is the Merging Technologies Anubis. They just switched out the PoE for USB and added ADAT. It's about $350 less than the Anubis Pro version and $1k cheaper than the Anubis Premium.

Neumann’s goal is to be able to offer all of the options for immersive audio monitoring to engineers. This + a Merging HAPI/HORUS + a handful of Neumann studio monitors is the package they’re trying to make the first choice for engineers building a studio with immersive/Dolby mixing in mind. It being cheaper is a really great move on their part, they’ve decided it’s worth it and it seems to be great for getting people to ask questions about AES67 and the functionalities Merging offers.
@Ultimate_Wasabi
@Ultimate_Wasabi Жыл бұрын
@@Googahgee Does it have the missions that Anubis has? I didn't see anything as it looks like it is preset to the music mission (more or less). Seems to be missing the plugin options as well (not that you need them - just saying). That said, I would think if you wanted a front end to a HAPI/HORUS, you would probably want an Anubis and not this. Hard to say how much the software differs, as well as the integration with other Merging Technology products.

Very cool. I'm 98% sold on it. A couple of questions I have. Can you switch which line outputs (monitors) you're using with one button? I would have thought pressing the Monitor A button or the Monitor B buttons would swap outputs but it looks like it just brings up the settings for that output. Second question, is there any way to trim the level of the preamp before conversion on these? I'm sure the preamps are very nice, I'm someone who likes to overdrive my preamps for certain sounds and if I could do this on the MT-48 without clipping the A/D and could then EQ and compress in real time with the unit then I could effectively get rid of channel strips and just use the MT 48 for that purpose.

You probably could mention that as well... anyway, does it need active cooling? I've noticed two little ducts on the sides which look like there are tiny fans them. Are they semi-passive kicking in only on heavy DSP processing, or do they just make some noise all the time? Can it run bus-powered only?

I am very interested in this audio interface, but I would like Neumann to answer this question directly, which I think is important for many who intend to acquire it. Neumann MA 1 and it makes a lot of sense, but don't leave Sonaworks aside with the sound id, Avid or UAD itself made this kind of mistakes in blocking other programmers, many like me already have an ATC system in my case and I'm not interested in changing my monitors to have the correction when I can do it with the sonaworks Sound id allocated to the interface dsp as it is possible to do with the anubis merging, I would like it to be clear if they will access or not since many users have this question put, it would be good for Neumann as a company to set the example of entering the market with its open audio interface and not wanting to go down the path of the UAD that many are starting to abandon..

Mitch you are the best ! Thank you for the video 😀 I'm living in the EU, and sadly the are no shops like Sweetwater here 😪 I mean not only the size and quality service, but with a KZbin channel like this one and a "Mitch" like show host to give us details and and how-to use gear...

Thomann comes pretty close but it looks like the price here in UK is £2100 while sweetwater is somewhere around $1800 which is bewildering since Neumann/Sennheiser is in Europe. I do share your wish that we were within reach of Sweetwater though, seems like such a great company & Mitch is a legend

@@HarryLoveTV Yes Mitch is a legend ☺. But as far as I know, prices in the US are tax excluded, that might explain the gap...

@@HarryLoveTV yes Thomann is a nice shop yes but not as nice as Sweetwater, the team in Sweetwater is second to none. Mitch is definitely the end game Boss. Anderton's in the uk have a funny dude who isn't bad as well in their keyboard section who do some pretty neat tests. Im a big Neumann fan have the kh speakers and headphones, but this interface is neat but way too expensive in europe right :) Hope they hear us lol

With the 2 signals that can record at the same time, does that mean I could keep both signals and use one for parallel processing?
@sweetwater

Hi, Brent! Thanks for your interest. Sure, if you record both the dry and processed signals, you can always blend them for parallel processing. Definitely a useful feature! I hope this helps - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com

Hi, great question! Yes, the MT48 does have an internal DSP powered mixer and router, so you can send different mixes to the outputs and headphone sends. This would make it easy to have a click track going to one headset and not the mains, and would also allow you to control the volume of said click. This is a super cool new interface, so feel free to give me a shout if you want to dig in further! Drake Sobehrad, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3271, drake_sobehrad@sweetwater.com

Hi, thanks for your great review. I’m confused about the outputs. Can I hook up my 5.1 speakers? I need at least six outputs for that. Thanks in advance.

maybe you could run the headphones out for a total of 6 outputs
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Жыл бұрын
Hello, Jonathan! The MT48, only having four analog audio outputs, would not be able to support 5.1. As you said, 5.1 requires six total outputs. If you need help selecting an interface for surround sound, feel free to contact us! Thanks for the interest! Would it be possible to use a device like this as a portable standalone mixer for device's such as NI Maschine+ Standalone or the Akai MPC LIVE without needing to attach a computer?.. ( Ideally looking to find something small portable & Ideally with a touchscreen, that offers further eq & compression Fx processesing with a built in spectrum analyzer etc... )

I've asked similar elsewhere, its a fully standalone mixer as well that's why the touchscreen, no spectrum analyzer

Love the form factor and overall packaging. I use a similar unit in a JoeCo Cello interface, which is almost exactly the same spec & function wise, but has double the resolution (an unnecessarily awesome 384K) and is housed in a not so sleek, semi early 2000s designed metal case. Noticed something interesting with the Neumann that I have been looking to upgrade from what I feel is a downside to the Cello: this Neumann unit is also on USB 2.0. Any reason for that? USB-C connection, but still USB 2.0. Im just curious.

The USB connection supports 2.0 audio protocol. The 3.0 protocol has not been yet finalized. Even with the new standard the increase in data rate does not really lower latency. Latency is more a function of the processor in the computer. The data rate in the 2.0 is enough for anything this interface can do including its AES67 streams. The JoeCo Dante Blackbox recorder does 64 channels via USB 2 all day long to a thumb drive. So you are good to go.

4x the resolution? I wonder what he means by that? Because it sounds ridiculous! Also, is this interface made in Switzerland like the Anubis? The Anubis has "Swiss Made" printed on the Kensington lock location but there is no similar printing on the Neumann unit.

Hello - great question! If you plug a ¼” cable into the line input it will bypass the mic preamps, so all good. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
