Are these adaptations lost after not training for a long time?

Great question! Yes, we lose training adaptations of any kind if we discontinue the training that caused the adaptations. As a general rule, it tends to take about as long to lose the adaptations as it took to develop them in the first place. In general, we can usually go 1-2 weeks without cardiovascular exercise before we begin losing those adaptations. For strength training, we can usually maintain for 3-4 weeks without training before we begin to lose those adaptations. The neural adaptations tend to follow along with the strength losses.
