Neuralink announced a product called Telepathy for controlling your phone and computer with your mind. Is it more like telepathy or telekinesis? And which brain implant is closest to achieving telepathy, sending your thoughts into someone else's mind?

As someone working in the field, the idea of a healthy patient submitting themselves to the risks of getting an implant just to use it as an interface for your computer is full blown crazy. It’s very, very unlikely to become a higher bandwidth channel than a normal keyboard, not to mention bandwidth is not at all the issue here. Most peoples fingers spend most of their typing time at rest waiting for the thinking meat to do it’s thing.

As someone else working in the field, I agree completely. I'm not even sure to what extent the people with paralysis Neuralink will implant are going to benefit, since most likely those people can already control a computer using e.g. voice commands or traditional assistive technology. Undergoing experimental brain surgery to obtain an alternative way to control a computer seems unnecessary.

Well i don’t want to say that it is a supper idea (i would never let it be done on me), with out any risks and so. But we talk a lot faster than we type. With other words we don’t think as slow as we type. The reason we spend a lot of time thinking while typing is, because typing takes concentration to. And we even talk slower than we think. So there could be a big speed improvement. We could communicate a lot faster if neural link would decode it for us.
@theondono

@@N.P420 That's actually backwards. With the right keyboard we can type way faster than we can talk, it's just not a valuable skill because you can't generate thoughts faster that much faster than talking them. Just look any stenographer do their work, Most can type faster than you can talk to them.

@@nam3ey Well it’s just going to speculation for both of us but it’s safe to assume the technology is far more advanced than the general public is told. Plus you don’t even need a implant, we have the technology to effect the brain wirelessly and yea it can effect emotion already. Not only can they send signals but can also receive them, this is all what’s public imagine what’s not.

I'd be a lot happier about this if it wasn't Elon Musk running this show. I trust the scientists working there, but Elon's known for making big promises that never materialize and rushing his staff. I just hope any issues that follow don't ruin this idea for everyone.

I suppose this is easier done than others as the motor cortex has very defined regions for hand movements and face movements, so they are decoding those signals. But impressive ngl!

I wonder how Neuralink will address racing thoughts and negative thinking. Also, most thoughts are exaggerated or unreal. So would happen if I am thinking about lunch while moving a cursor? And if a person I meet reads my mind as I am thinking how much I find them annoying would this end up in a fight?
