I allowed myself to make it a little more detailed: During NECROVISION, Earth nearly fell to Satan if it wasn't for Simon who stopped the Necromancer and the Devil himself. Satan however tried again during cold war through a mad scientist who tried to create a new race of superhuman to serve Satan. After restoring the course of history in YOU ARE EMPTY, Timestrikers attacked Earth in order to revert the reverted history. Luckily, THE RIFT was closed and humanity won once again. Humans used Timestrickers' technology for genetic engineering and later for interstellar travel. We see in Vivisector that the genetic engineering is not efficent enough without clear medium, without right minerals... Some individuals, however, possess powerful NEURO abilities without any minerals, such as the main protagonist of CRYOSTASIS. Still... not poweful enough and unuseable without controllable and predictable source of energy. So the CHASE for the right minerals started. Mars was colonised but the right source for the PSI powers wasn't found there. Few centuries in the future, KREED anomaly was found and only one person was able to escape it: Daniel. He told the humanity of the powerful HUBBARDIUM mineral in the anomaly and thanks to his knowledge how to enter and escape Kreed the mining operations could begin. Later, Hubbardium was found on another planets, such as ALPHA PRIME and used for enhancing human NEURO abilities as well as creating new ones... Sorry for my english Not that it would matter, it's jank :D

This whole thing is like some sort of brutalist punishment- from the game to the video itself. It's like we're being punished for our hubris in thinking that we were somehow free from the nihilistic agony of Slavjank; like the Department of Special Corrections, and by extension the writer(s) of this story are enacting some sort of mass-subjugation onto Us, the ignorant viewer, for holding the delusion that our existence was undeserving of pain, that it could not reach us. Through Civvie is our sentence served, time again, and surely we will return once again to extract our sweet suffering - for we are judge, jury, and executed in our own trial, resigned to a cycle of misery, for deep down we know that this is the only ruling that we can consider "fair" in such an apathetic, cruel world. Game development in early 2000's Russia was bizarre, with it's absolutely ridiculous lows and highs. People started to jump into a new world of ever-growing video games industry, new universities with video games studying and education, dozens of new developers and publishers showed up with insane money to throw around, some already experienced folks decided to leave 90's void of chaotic piracy and bootlegs market for official business, big worldwide publishers took an interest in Russia and CIS video games industry and markets while their own local expos and events were hitting hard even on international levels. Unfortunately, majority of those publishers and developers ended up making a complete garbage and wasting too much money that leads to their bankruptcy, while others are still around and there's a big chance you know and love some of their indie, free to play games or AA-AAA games they made together with some well known brands around the world.

The most fun part about Neuro is the story of it's development. The developer started making an abitious 3D FPS game because that's what you do when you have no budget and no prior exprience and, surprisingly, that ended up in a development hell. But at the same time one of the engineers working on the game was also making an engine for a free fan-made game B5:IFH - which was used for a spin-off game (released before the main game) Homeplanet which was jank as hell (obviously) but also extremelly hard (because it was made on B5:IFH engine and allied AI was brain-dead and you aren't playing a super-hero there) that actually sold pretty well (for a jank quickly-made game) - mostly because of how underserved was the market of hardcore space-sims. So well, that they actually made a DLC that also sold pretty well. But instead of continuing that direction and actually improving they went back to the FPS game (Neuro) which was released after the developer went bankrupt.

Funny thing about this game's insane amount of lore: It's actually a sequel to Homeplanet - a 2003 space-sim from the same developer, though that game takes place in 369 (you play as a Troyden cadet-pilot during the mentioned exile and fight for clan's survival while trying to find a new home, hence the name of the game) so I guess Neuro is technically a prequel. In fact the whole "pre-history" from the manual is actually introductory text-crawl from Homeplanet almost word for word except for the last added paragraph. The story of development of these games is a fun one too: they originally started working on Neuro back in 2001 (maybe earlier? Articles about Neuro being worked on prior to Homeplanet mention 2002, but archive of dev's site has an announcement of Homeplanet development in November 2001 with no mention of Neuro at that time), but at some point it turned out that one of their developers Oleg Petrov made a space-sim engine, so they decided to make that first.

“Tehsnakerer” is another very underrated gaming channel, That puts out content in a similar vein to Civvie. Which Id describe as; Long Form(1 to 3+ hours long) highly edited & fully narrated lets-play styled (start to finish)play-through reviews. He plays lots of obscurely interesting, highly Janky 1st/3rd-person type games of various Genre. Ive been subscribed and watching his channel for many years, & find myself routinely returning to catchup on any new content being released. Him & his channel definitely need more love than he gets. An Underrated 💎

I’m somewhat shocked at the relative silence from Civvie on the whole Randy Pitchford/gearbox games situation that is currently unfolding before our very eyes. I for one would very much like to know what Civvie thinks of the monumental failure of the borderlands “movie”. I use air quotes, because in order to be called a movie it must actually contain a plot, directing, and acting, and the borderlands movie had none of that 🙃

I am russian, i've seen some all-time bad first person shooters (Kreed, Antikiller, Paragraph 77, Nevskiy Titbit, "Cleaner" (Chistiltchick), fucking Gulmen), but THIS 1 i've never heard about. Few cool ideas but horrible execution. Now i hope Civvie will play Psy Ops. 3rd person shooter with all of these psychic powers done well.

I think in some video (I really don't remember which one, sorry) he said that he would've done it, but the gameplay loop is somewhat repetitive throughout the entire game, which doesn't mean that the game's bad, it's just that there wouldn't be much to really talk about, aside from a couple of words about levels, objectives and enemies. I think if he decides to review all Painkiller games, then there might be decent enough material for a full video. Shame that, from what I've heard, other Painkiller games, aside from the 1st one, aren't as great or even good

Watching the gunplay in this game reminds me of playing old laser tag systems where you only get one shot every 2 seconds and the sensors don't register hits reliably so it devolves into shooting and trying to dodge the other guy while you wait to get your next shot. 😆

In the first Metro book Artyom is basically like Jimmy here. Weak, fumbling through the metro, being helped by others and dumb luck (possibly the Dark Ones). Not saying that the book is bad or anything, just that I don't think that kind of character would work in a video-game environment. Jimmy here proves it.

The book (Metro 2033) is a fucking trashfire. I could see it even as a then-middle schooler who routinely devoured 300-350 pages of garbage sci-fi and fantasy *per day* almost every day. I can not comprehend how did it get as popular as it did.
@Jack_Slate2 ай бұрын
@@mazanakaUA I'm not as read as you, so I guess that could be a factor for many others as well. I was curious because of the games, so I only read the first one. I would also argue that it can't be a trash fire if it spread as much as it did, there's obviously some good parts to it.

Recently I've read novel "t" by Viktor Pelevin. It begins as a steampunk-ish action thriller but soon its protagonist, Count T. (who for legal reasons is kinda, but not really Leo Tolstoi) learns that he is actually a character in a shlocky novel that is being written by a team of trendy hacks, and he has to cope with the fact that his entire life is created as marketable product and even his thoughts are being written by a parody of Pelevin himself and most likely will be thrown out in the final version. Anyway, at one point the whole project is put on ice and one of the authors gets to work on a post-apocalyptic shooter about Dostoevsky, so he reuses count T. as a boss encounter. One of the first things T. does in the game is he enters a manhole, hears someone give an antisemitic rant, and is immediately passed by a pack of rats that glow green. Obviously this combination of slavjank, sewers, racism and glowing rodents is most likely an accident, but still it's completely in-character for Pelevin to predict Civvie in 2009.
