This cleaning video is going to be very different from others I have done! Today I'm going to talk about why I am cleaning my Childs room for her, and the steps we have taken to try and ease what seems like a simple task for neurotypical people. I hope this is helpful in some way to anyone who may also live in a neurodivergent household!

Hey fellow ADHDer here, I thought I’d share one way my mom used to get me to clean my room which was a major struggle. So similar to your list idea but more of a game with it, she would put each separate task(could be pick up all papers on floor every blue item or something) on a sticky note or index card and would only give me one at a time. I would run down stairs when done to see what the next task would be and such, It made it a little more fun and allowed me to focus on a single task rather than getting overwhelmed or distracted. Love your minimalist and understanding approach, sincerely a college kid who doesn’t have kids haha

Awesome! My oldest is 2e and she absolutely loves when I clean her room. She loves a fresh clean space, but naturally she is a pack rat and the task is so overwhelming- even though she doesn’t have that much in her room. She doesn’t even know where to start. I have to be careful though because certain things are very special to her so I have to remember which things to keep in her room :)

Normally people would prejudge but the comunication and understanding between both of you is outstanding. You can tell she wants to be organized but it is hard for her. You as a mom has done a amazing job listening to her and you can tell it’s not lazyness. Your kid is so blessed to have you. I think a lot of parents would assume it’s just the kid acting up. 👍Ps I’m leggaly blind so sorry for any spelling or grammar issues

So, I have five children ages 31 down to age 10. I have some great adult kids and a great 10 year old and think I pretty much know what I’m doing for the most part. I enjoy watching parenting videos and organizing but I don’t feel like I learned too much more than I’ve already learned through the years on my own. That being said, you totally taught me something! I love the idea of putting all their things in a bag and having them live without it for a week in their room without looking at it or for things. What an ingenious yet extremely simple idea. It helps your kids deal with the anxiety of parting with things just in the same way that we would. It gives them control or a feeling of it while you actually still control the clutter in your home. So thanks for that!!🙌🏻👍🏻😁

I’m starting to wonder if I have a sensory processing disorder/adhd. I deal with the exact same issues as you and Rev. As an almost 27 year old I’ve struggled for as long as I can remember. If any room is too cluttered I walk away. I know I have to clean it. I just don’t know where to start. My mom used to have to come into my room and sit with me and say okay, this is where we are going to start, she still has to do that sometimes and I’ve moved out of her house. You’re doing an amazing job Arianna! Thank you for sharing all of your tips and tricks I’ll have to apply them to my own lifestyle. Love from Oregon! ❤️

It’s never too late to also test and try out new things, I am doing that for myself as well! It’s a journey, and weirdly tiktok has been super helpful for me for ADHD coping strategies. I was diagnosed in 6th grade, and they tried so many medications that never seemed to help. I’ve learned more from ADHD experts and others with ADHD in Tiktok in just a few months. Odd, but if it works it works! Haha.

I'm autistic with ADHD and so is my son. I was the same way when I was a kid, my mom could clean for me occasionally and I would have a much easier time keeping it clean. So far my kid doesn't care about clean and I'm still not the best. We all need to purge more but we all hate to do that. I kind of love/hate it now though because I like the freedom.

This is our struggle too, we really try to minimize it but her big thing during quiet time is putting everything on the floor and rolling on it (sensory seeking). So if she has limited toys or books she pulls all the bedding down. Even the single step instructions to clean leaves her flabbergasted as to what to do. It is just easier for me to clean it myself. 🤷🏼‍♀️. She’ll figure it out one day.
@ariannapflederer

Hopefully she does! Sensory seeking can be so hard. Rev has to have a lot of outside time and a weighted blanket. They help her a ton!

Honestly she’s just like all kids I’m guessing as it’s been exactly the same for my girl but my girl was happy to gift stuff when I told her kids that have less than her will be happy to receive toys and arts n crafts that they couldn’t afford at a store so take them to the second hand shop. I will say ( and I hope this doesn’t come off horribly) but American kids have a lot of stuff our kids don’t in their rooms and they do fine without it all but in your case being homeschooled they need it and I understand that but it does do theme good to not just collect everything and have it junking up the place, even myself I love my room when it’s had a good clean up 😊

I am someone who's craft space is always a mess. I'll leave scraps if the garbage is too far away. I do much better with a trash box on my workspace or a bin under my desk. It's there and things get tossed right away. Otherwise my brain says "one piece? That's not worth the 10 steps to the garbage" and it just stacks up. By the time I'm done crafting all the added clutter makes it seem so much worse and I don't clean up after myself. I'm 21 and still learning how I best keep a space clean. Currently my routine is hope no one comes over 😅

I had to giggle a bit at the last sentence. I’ve definitely been there, and for sure feel you on the garbage can thing! That is part of the issue for rev. Right now the garbage can is in the hall for her and aerie to share. It was in her room, but we had issues with not sharing the garbage can...so in the haul it went. 😅 getting an extra garbage can is next on my list!

This is a different take on cleaning. I am not sure how it makes me feel. I have a struggle with my kids room as well. They don't clean it unless I walk them through step by step. I want them to be able to keep there stuff picked up, but I don't want them to think I am going to pick it up for them.

Cleaning her room for her, is never the final long term fix. That’s the important thing to remember :) it’s about guiding your kids to help them figure out what works best for them so they can be successful on their own one day! I talked about that in the video! This was definitely not a way to go about it that tells your kids you will pick it up for them 🙂

Usually I delete comments like this, because I find them a bit absurd since I don’t make political content. But, I’m feeling spicy today 🤪 I don’t solely affiliate with either major party and haven’t for 6 years. So do with that what you please. But again, this isn’t a political channel. I don’t make political content. I am a vegan, who conceal carries, doesn’t agree with the new age feminism movement, thinks men should share household and child responsibilities, thinks people should wear what they want, thinks marijuana should be legalized, appreciates my husband being the leader of our household, and believes Jesus died for my sins. So let that confuse you for a long while 🤪 But I am curious, why does your question matter? Does my answer decide whether my content about minimalism and a video helping neurodivergent households is something you want to listen to? Does it suddenly make everything I say not applicable anymore based on whether I say yes or no on a completely unrelated topic? If it does, you should ask yourself why.
