Medullary reticulospinal-tract: 1. Origin: Medulla- reticular formation 2. Stimuli: Tertiary neurons a. cortico-reticular fibers b. Collaterals from ascending tracts 3. Secondary neurons from medullary part of reticular formn (origin) To lateral white column- collaterals to: 4. Ventral grey horn -> activates alpha and gamma motor neurons of flexor muscles

What??? All the books I read say the Medullary reticulospinal tract controls the extensor muscles i.e they inhibit them (also a minor inhibitory effect on the flexors) . The pontine counterpart on the other hand , stimulate the extensor muscles .

Reticulospinal tract controls involuntary reflex activity of axial muscles and “physiological” extensor muscles of extremities (which are, for some reason, upper extremity flexors and lower extremity extensors), all for the purpose of increasing (pontine RST) or reducing (medullary RST) the anti-gravity reflexes. At least that’s what my book says. Good luck everyone.

It is because it shows regularity: Rubrospinal tract - for flexor mm - crosses medullary reticulospinal tract - for flexor mm - crosses
