So what comes before beliefs, attitudes, behaviours, motivations and needs? I would say it's our Intention, Awareness, Choice and Response, as determined by Constructed Development Theory. Perhaps check it out on KZbin? Personality is a construict, and at the highest levels of self-awareness, it is a choice. Peronality traits become much more robust when you insert those four pillars of CDT in them, including psychometrics. Get in touch for a chat about it :)
