Beauty, intelligence and social awareness -- Goldie Hawn is a real leader who deserves a much bigger platform for her timely message. If our politicians were even half the humans that Goldie is there would be a dramatic change for the better. // seeing this again in 2024 I wonder if these programs would be outlawed in backward bastions like Florida and Texas. After all, to them Goldie is part of the Hollywood crowd.

I am a teacher in Boston who has dreamed of a program like MInd-Up and fought my way to teach it and won. This year, my school has become an Extended Day school ant teachers had autonomy on what to teach for the extended day time. I chose Mind-Up. I am so happy that my principal, trusted me enough to allow it. It is an amazing program and the Mind-Up culture in the classroom makes such a difference in both emotional and academic learning. Thank you Goldie!!! This is our global future.

Mindfulness training saved my life when I was 14. Praise God , there was a group of counselors in my town, who chose a few teenagers to study this. I was one of them. I was miserable, abused at home, and suicidal. I came back from training after one week, a different person. It's powerful. Hope it gets to more schools.

Why praise God? Why not praise the Buddha for mindfulness training? Not that the latter wanted to be praised.

Abused at home, and helped at 14 to turn your life around. This warms my heart. We need the younger generation to survive and live beyond their (our) abuse into a thriving, loving world. Thanks for sharing your story. It gives me hope more will break the cycle of abuse until its gone.

I never thought about this . . . I too went through the air raid drills in school and remember being fearful for so very long . . . I shut down, lived on the surface. I, like Goldie, used to answer when asked what I want to "be", I said, "happy!". Goldie is such a wise sage . . . it frightens me to think about the world my son is inheriting . . . and that is what drives me in my activism. I love the crucial information Goldie's foundation is providing to children. I wish my son (now almost 20) had this information as a child. Anyone that pays attention can see that Goldie is a very intelligent, passionate woman. She's AWESOME and I'm so grateful she's getting this message to the children. Big love to her and her mission . . .

Incredible! This program should be implemented into every teaching program, every elementary school, middle and high school. As higher education advisor I find that students no longer have the ability to self soothe and have never learned coping strategies. This program will solve many issues later in life. Thank you to Goldie Hawn and her entire team for the work they are doing on this extremely important topic.

I worked at NBC and saw Goldie in the commissary frequently.I delivered scripts to the set and sat in the Big Laugh In chair. I was young and who knew that Goldie had those same thoughts. Smiley Goldie. I too found analysis. I also discovered India and mindfulness. There was no other way exceot the way of the souls who seemed aimless in Hollywood. She is right. Neuroscience corroborates what the ancients knew what Carl Jung knew. Blessings to you and your good work Goldie. Soul sista.

I want to thank Goldie Hawn's mother. When I was a child, if I'd gone home from school for lunch because of a film (even that one, though it's a bit before my time...the Cuban missile crisis...), first my mother would have mocked me and shamed me for being afraid of a film. She would have socked me--a lot. Then when my father came home from work she would have told him. That night, if he felt like it, he would have lectured me for hours and/or beaten me. I had to manipulate him to control his anger because I was often afraid he would beat me to death. I was a pretty little blond dancing Jewish girl too. I grew up to be a lonely, depressed person whose dreams were often stolen away from me by my parents. I've always loved Goldie Hawn. Is it no coincidence that my father didn't like her? I also used to say I wanted to be happy and people thought I was ridiculous. I have a Mensa IQ, but I'm still treated as the dumb blond. If every child really understood this, and practiced it, had fun and respected each other, we could reduce the number of sociopaths and BPD etc. to the point of ... zero someday. Could happen! As for the Japanese education comment, I appreciate the feeling of it, but in fact (I live in Japan) kids are bullied here and suicide is all too common among kids. There's a lot of abuse at home...it's a different culture because of so many factors. Mindfulness automatically helps the kids to focus on and enjoy their education. I think that's the point, or one of the points. The Japanese system doesn't even really work that well in Japan. They need MindUp just as much as all the children of the world. TY GH and TAI for posting this talk.

How Mindfulness works best when one is not being mindful Meditative practices from focal to mindfulness meditation have deep relaxation as a primary entailment that is present during and after meditation. Relaxation naturally feels pleasant, due primarily to the release of endogenous opioids. However, affect in relaxation is not static, but dynamic, as opioid release is enhanced due to concurrently perceived reward uncertainty, which can be demonstrated easily through practical procedure. Some perspective first. It has recently been shown (link below) that reward uncertainty or novelty can improve the sensory experience of high value reward. In other words, popcorn actually tastes better when we are watching exciting movies, and tastes worse when we are watching paint dry. This is due to what are called dopamine-opioid interactions, or the fact that dopamine activity (elicited by positive novel events, and responsible for a state of arousal, but not pleasure) interacts with our pleasures (as reflected by mid brain opioid systems), and can actually stimulate opioid release, which is reflected in self-reports of greater pleasure. This principle should logically apply to all events, sensory or perceptual, that elicit opioid release, and meditation is a case in point. Since meditation is the best way to induce a state of deep rest, it follows that after a meditation session, the pursuit of exclusively meaningful behavior (meaning would be defined as behavior that has branching novel positive implications), would increase the pleasure of relaxation and keep us relaxed. This has many examples in common experience, as we often have pleasurable or ‘flow’ experiences when doing meaningful work when in a relaxed state. So rather than surrendering to distraction when not meditating, just put off all distraction and exclusively do meaningful things, and you will note that the pleasant effects of mindfulness will be accentuated and will endure. A more formal explanation from affective neuroscience of this technique is provided on pp. 44-50 in a little open-source book on the neuro-psychology of rest linked below, and the flow experience on pp. 80-85. The book is based on the work of the distinguished affective neuroscientist Kent Berridge, who was kind to review for accuracy and endorse the work. Rauwolf, P., et al. (2021) Reward uncertainty - as a 'psychological salt'- can alter the sensory experience and consumption of high-value rewards in young healthy adults. Government guidelines do not belong is the school. You are a spiritual person, I am a spiritual person a Go's fearing individual. Where do we draw the line of control for all American citizens and how they what their children raised and exposed to.

Mindfulness is good. However it is being used as a sticking plaster. Instead of using a sticking plaster how about actually trying to reduce unnecessary stresses in schools? Common sense doesn't feel magical though does it.
@sabinefleschutz9 жыл бұрын
+MEN HEAL Besides the fact that i think the entire school system needs a major overhaul, and perhaps reducing test related stressors, mindfulness is a tool for life, not just school. Many children nowadays get every obstacle removed by their parents, every pain relieved by painkillers, any waiting shortened by electronics, so that they don't have to encounter discomfort very often and therefore don't know how to be with it. Mindfulness will help them endure life's stressors, and there is no way those can be reduced. So might as well start learning in school, which is a microcosm of the world, how to survive in a crazy society.

+Asla Earthling True but 99% of mindfulness out there is McMindfulness. I've trained for years in mindfulness... I've seen so many people teaching mindfulness who have only done a few months training if that. Mindfulness is a very powerful thing... it can cause damage to people. Most people are ignorant of this. Most mindfulness experts (the ethical ones) are concerned about McMindfulness. It isn't mindfulness. McMindfulness is being sold... hollywood actresses selling it. Hopefully you will awaken to what is happening.
@sabinefleschutz9 жыл бұрын
+Mike Y I'd be curious to know how mindfulness can be harmful and cause damage to people? Please explain.... I"ve been practicing mindfulness for years, as well as meditation, dance and yoga. I appreciate that you'd like me to "awaken to what is happening'; however, I think i'm quite awake;)
@sabinefleschutz9 жыл бұрын
+Asla Earthling I also work with children and youth, and have been using mindfulness based art therapy with them; hard to see how any of it could be harmful, except in cases where a child has been severely traumatized and is being brought back by an unskilled practitioner to a liminal space during mindfulness practice, where her memories can suddenly invade and re-traumatize her.
@mikezooper9 жыл бұрын
Exactly my point. You are using mindfulness without knowing the side-effects. You weren't trained properly. If you had been your trainer would have taught you a) about the side-effects and b) what to do when they arise. See: "psychiatrists have now sounded a warning that as well as bringing benefits, mindfulness meditation can have troubling side-effects. Evidence is also emerging of underqualified teachers presenting themselves as mindfulness experts, including through the NHS" www.theguardian.com/society/2014/aug/25/mental-health-meditation
