Wow and it's soo blue even though the medium is straight up white! That is crazy. All of these oil mediums are like, see through gels.

The first time I used it, I figured it would definitely make it whiter, more of a pastel color. But it doesn't, it's awesome :)

All that I have is craft paint unfortunately. I know that dollar tree sells paint that looks similar to what you suggest but I’m not sure if it’s the same type. Would you happen to know? Thanks!
@KrystleColeArt5 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what dollar tree sells, but I would think it probably isn’t professional paint. But I’m not sure honestly. You could always try mixing it with medium and see how it turns out!

I always buy acrylic paint at Walmart I get the plaid Apple barrel matte colors, the cost is 50.ea, they have a great collection of colors along with high gloss paints, neon, chalk and metallics but, the Dollar tree brand I bought was called Rich Art premium acrylic paint. After opening the bottle, you can just tell by the viscosity & the quality of the paint that it was very cheap

Krystle, I'm switching from paint pouring to canvas painting. I'm continuing to use my existing fluid paint, but it's too thin. What would you recommend to thicken the containers I have already mixed in squirt bottles (36 of them)?
@KrystleColeArtАй бұрын
Since you already mixed medium into the paint, if you add more medium, it might make it to translucent. So you'll have to experiment. But I think you would want to go with the super heavy gloss gel medium.

@@KrystleColeArt the paints are apple barrel fluid paints...they only have a little water mixed with them in the squirt bottles...so I'm thinking a gel would wouldwork out...I'll experiment...don't want to waste what I have...thanks for your input...oh, if I use gloss heavy gel, will the paint dry gloss?

Hi!!! All I have is craft paints (apple barrel and craft smart). I was wondering if I can use a medium on them. What would happen if I did?
@KrystleColeArt3 ай бұрын
You can try, if they aren’t thick enough pigment it will just look translucent. No way to know until you try it to find out!

Hello! Love your videos 😄I have a few questions. After mixing the heavy gel gloss with the acrylic paint, will the original color change? Also, how does the finished/dries paint look like?
@KrystleColeArt4 ай бұрын
The original color does not change unless you thin it out too much. If you do a 50-50, mixture it should be fine. The only thing that will happen if you add too much medium is that it will become translucent. if you're worried about that do 25% medium, 75% paint and you'll definitely be good. The dried paint will have a glossy finish if you use heavy gloss gel medium.

How do these dry as a thick impasto texture? :) so a pile pile on after 24 hours, does it bend / droop? is it heavy? would it stand on a canvas or would it need a wooden base? Thanks so much!
@KrystleColeArt3 ай бұрын
The dry well, I paint with this on canvases all the time. I paint it on vertically and it also dries that way, no drooping or dripping from gravity as it dries.

Does the gel make the paint transparent when it’s dry?
@KrystleColeArt11 күн бұрын
Depends on how much medium you add, but adding a 25% medium will allow it to remain opaque usually with higher quality paint

Are there any issues with mixing in extra gel if you want a more translucent effect? Or is it safer to stick with the 50/50 mix? Thanks for the video!
@KrystleColeArt6 ай бұрын
You can definitely mix extra gel if you want it to be more translucent. In fact, I often use the gel straight out of the container to put on my canvases prior to painting to add texture. So any amount of gel can be mixed with the paint and it will work great. it’s just that the more gel you add the more translucent it will become. I usually stick to the 50-50 mixture so that it will stay opaque.

Thanks so much for supporting on Patreon! I really appreciate it :-) I had to make a couple videos private because people took the links and shared them on other websites unfortunately. It may have been one of them. But I made several videos on the subject, I'm sure I did not private all of them.

A good teacher tells you get crappy craft paint if you want it and are motivated you'll learn how to paint. Just giving you 100$ a floz paint won't make you an artist. Dafty
@KrystleColeArt2 ай бұрын
The unfortunate thing about craft paint is that if you do make a good painting, it’ll eventually probably start to fade. It’s not meant to last the test of time. It’s cheap. So I think it’s better to start out with a midgrade paint to learn on. So that way if you make something really amazing, it will stand the test of time.
@hollieharlow1129Ай бұрын
I used craft paint when I started. Colours like yellow didn't mix or blend properly. There just wasn't enough pigment in it. I painted half a painting as an absolute beginner and went out and bought the cheap liquitex paint. She tells you they're watered down so do what you want, your results will just be really poor.
