Yeah, exactly what i am looking for too. I am soo confused about that. I was thinking that if you are cool skin undertone, then also cool haircolor should fit you the best, but i guess this asumption is not quite right. If i take for instance Nicole Kindman as a bright cool undertone, i wouldn't say that she has cool toned haircolor on most of her pictures, its more yellowish blonde, sometimes strawberry blond, but this on the other hand seems more coolish. I dont know, i cant tell, so please please make a video about that. It would really ease my mind :D :D thanks

In recent years, I’ve been lead to believe I have neutral undertones (a makeup construct, not a skin analysis construct), but since subscribing to this channel, I learn this is not possible. I believe I am cool delicate. I look fantastic in charcoal and light grey, pale soft blue, and the very light grey off-white colour you mention. I can also wear warm delicate colours, but not as successfully. I was told for many years I had warm skin based on my veins and eye colour combo and spent a lot of money on clothes and makeup and couldn’t understand why they didn’t particularly do me justice. Yellows and Oranges and Tomato reds and the vast majority of greens make me look jaundiced. Out of sheer frustration, I began switching my wardrobe over to only neutrals (while everyone was extolling the virtues of jewel tones) in an attempt to find clothes which worked on me. I have a great deal of grey in my wardrobe. Warm grey is brutal on me though and I didn’t initially know the difference. My skin tone is light, but I find it so incredibly interesting to learn that skintone depth has absolutely nothing to do with undertones and classification. This was illustrated very well in another one your videos. You’ve made me see the light! You’ve completely changed my game. Thank you!

Merriam, I would love it if you could do a video on makeup for Kibbe SD/the sharpened type with softness. I find eye makeup especially tricky since I don't like wearing very harsh looks a la Sophia Lauren, and yet I find that Kibbe was completely right when he said that bare-faced looks would read very dull and unsophisticated on us. Also, I find that every eyeliner shape is either too sharp or not sharp enough. Maybe you could help us find something that works? P.S. Your channel is one of my favorite things I've found on KZbin, great job with the videos! It's so helpful, you really know what you are doing! I wish I had found your videos a long time ago. Because now I basically already know which colors are good on me, cool and muted, but I wasted so much money and so much time in changing rooms, not knowing what I need. I had an epiphany when my hairdresser told me that my hair is cool toned dark blonde. She also told me that my type is rare in our country. I was blown away and started researching by trial and error. I found out silver jewelry is better than gold on my skin and that muted cool colors are better than vibrant. And when I buy beige I go for the less golden tones. But otherwise I have no idea what body type I am, so I can still learn a LOT from you!

Hehe neutrals are something that I love mixing together! Black, white, beige, brown, red, and green are my favorite colors right now, so I do a lot of mixing of them (except for green since I don't have any green items in my closet, because I'm very picky about shades of green). I'm not quite sure what my undertone is right now. It was definitely warm and delicate during the spring and summer this year, and last year it was cool and delicate, but then I did the color test on a recent photo of myself and it was inconclusive (both bright blue and beige made me look my best, but neither was particularly better than the other) so I'm going to have to try doing the test in front of a mirror I think, since it's possible the lighting in the photo was throwing things off. Edit #1: Just did the test in front of a mirror, without any makeup, in diffuse natural lighting, and it seems like I'm transitioning from warm back to cool! Sort of in between delicate and radiant atm though, so I'll see what happens with that. Edit #2: After looking at my skin a bit, I've found that I definitely have warmer undertones on my body than I do on my face, which I think was throwing me off. I tend to have a bit of discoloration on my face (pink on my nose and forehead, blueish purple under my eyes and a general white paleness on my cheeks) so I think that that's throwing off my ability to determine what undertone I have.

I’m a bit bummed as well with black & white. Black makes it seem like I’m being boring, want to say it’s MY BEST COLOR not a cop out! Combo makes me think of nuns, waiters & Cruella DeVil! So I’m trying not to pair them together as top + bottom,. I’m trying to pick one & put with another color that flatters me. Also I have a pair of white enamel drop earrings I bought years ago, they’re nothing special but they look good near my face & I can’t stain them. If you’re the type that can wear a short scarf choker-style then a black & white print would be a quick lift for any outfit.

Another great video Merriam! I seem to have an undertone that is hard to figure out. I'm very fair with dark brown hair and muted hazel green eyes that are not dark, but not super light. I look good in a cool tone beige, but also some brighter cool colors. I look terrible in charcoal gray, and black seems to be a bit harsh on me. Most cool toned foundations are too pink on me. I'm pretty sure I'm cool because my veins on my wrists are purple/blue and I look terrible in orange. I'm going to have to keep experimenting with colors. PAle golden WArm skin, warm blonde hair , tourqouise eyes. My best bright colors,are tourqouise and coral...lighter for, spring season aqua and light coral or warm pink...I wear orange well, pumpkin, teal for fall and winter season. My main print is animal,print leopard, but only,brown based great for me,because I have spots ie freckles. GOld jewelry. Shoes and bags. Cream, gold, camel, cognac,and brown....red accessories for when I wear navy. I have some black dresses for,eve and formal but wear warm jewelry always with them thick gold collar ala,Ralph Lauren and necklace with stones...also tourqouise jewelry for,dressy,with black but less formal. It took years to,learn all this and to,collect the clothes that look best on me..not so easy to,find. I am theatrical romantic but do also,wear boho fashions for casual,,they do,suit me....flowy,maxi skirts, great belt collection, with typical TR close v neck tops...close fitted Jean jacket at the waist and peplum....or over close,fit camis....these styles look better on me bec more feminine than jeans and pants.Thank goodness these styles fit my tropical locale abroad, my daytime lifestyle and have been in fashion in recent years

I feel like royal blue does great on me. Actually, I love most sorts of blues and cool greens. After I found out about these color analysis, I got obsessed with finding out my best colors, the thing is... My best neutrals are the cool and delicate neutrals. I don't feel very comfortable with white, although I do just fine with black depending on the fabric of the piece. And when it comes to other bright and cool colors, nor cool bright pinks nor all sorts of deep purple do that much well on me, so it always drives me confused! I can even handle some green tones considered to be warm, but not coral, and definitely none of the bright warm colors. So there it is: I can't find my season! It sucks. I'm just positive I'm cool because orange - red / warm red lipsticks don't work on me, they look like they will run out of my face at anytime, but cool deep reds are the best on me! Really... @Merriam Style I've obviously got a warm undertone, but still can't figure out the chroma. My best colors are clear warm colors like sunflower yellow, tomato red, kelly green, salmon, but also soft coral, light gold, cream, and olive green. True orange is horrible, tans, camel, and beiges don't look good either, and I don't understand why. Also why aren't really light yellow, lemon, mustard, burnt orange, brick red, orangy browns, or rose gold looking good? Shouldn't these colors suit me better? And shouldn't there be a sharper line of what suits me between softer/muted and brighter/radiant colors? It seems quite random to me... Phew. And there are some clearly cool colors that suit me well: Sligthly cooler dark greens & reds (best in shiny fabric), pure black & optic white (look chic), indigo blue (actually great). Lilacs, cool greens, muted or light blues, and any grey wash me out, so I'm obviously no cool undertone. I don't really understand, where I fit into your system. Is it really my coloring, or do my body type, eye color, or hair color play a role? I'm a Blended body type and my coloring is basically like in between Cate Blanchett and Hayden Panettiere. I mean, I now what suits me, so I know which colors to choose and which to avoid. Is it just my preference a.k.a. my bias? What am I missing? Should I assume, I'm a warm & delicate, just because I'm so confused...? ;-)

I think, according to this other video ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3WbgaxnarWagdE ), Merriam would say that means you are warm and delicate, because people with warm undertones tend to look less bad in the wrong colors than people with cool undertones do. I'm quite certain that I am a bright, cool undertone. Deep cool browns, crisp whites and blacks, clear greys, deep clear blues, and crisp pinks are my neutrals of choice. I have noticed, however, that in some colors I suit their warmer versions better than their cooler counterparts. I suit a lime green (bright and warm) rather well, but look absolutely awful in a blueish green of similar brightness. As well, one of the dresses I get the most compliments in and in which my skin looks best is unmistakably bright and warm (I believe it is coral, but I'm not entirely sure). I would never have picked that color for myself and only did so at the urging of a friend. Of course, I don't think my suiting bright and warm versions better than bright and cool versions of a handful of colors makes me warm and bright, but I do wonder why this is so? I also wonder if others have experienced something similar.
@chapitaism4 жыл бұрын
I have. If you look good in a bright lime green (that might be even neon green), and also in a bright coral, (which also happened to me with a dress I borrowed from my sister), we have had same experience. I believe you are "cool and radiant" like me. The best choice for me in other shades of green is only Emerald green, pine green (very strong, even dark cool tones of green). All the other greens with yellow tints look awful on me. Also, cool soft pink is a neutral that I can carry well. I believe you should start looking at the Winter color palette of BRIGHT Winter. @@chapitaism I read long ago in "Color Me Beautiful" that coral tones and the range of aqua to teal can gracefully crossover to any coloring. Was suggested for a bevy of bridesmaids to look their best! :-)
@unneighborlyarcades63564 жыл бұрын
@@chapitaism It seems we have had the same experience after all! The lime green I had in mind could definitely be called "neon", as it was so bright, and the coral is indeed bright. I'm not entirely sure about emerald green or pine green. I do believe the cool green garment I was comparing the lime green garment to in my mind was pine. (I'm no good at proper names for colors, so I tend to just describe them by their warmth/coolness, clarity, and lightness/darkness). I do have a cool green dress, not muted though not as bright as a lime green that I think I look alright in. However, that is more to do with the lines of the dress (It's a 60s shift dress and I'm a sharpened mixed type, to use Merriam's new lingo) and the fact that there is a rather large pussy-bow in a deep, cool blue-a color I know suits me. Funnily enough, I tend to look at Winter (especially bright winter) palettes for help choosing blush colors. I have a theory as to why some cool greens don't look as good on me (and you) as bright, warm greens. Some blueish greens can appear muted in tone, especially when compared to bright and warm greens. So, perhaps they don't have enough vibrancy.

Jenna Olson I see! The good thing about a four season system with flexibility in application, like Merriam’s withour strict color swatch palettes to follow, is you find your color type easier and have a lot of leeway getting dressed day in and day out. No one else but Merriam has such clear videos on color and line differences. Not even in the 12 sesson world. Merriam is clearly a market leader and quickly rising authority on these matters! ✌️

Hi Merriam! Does that mean that the only and best neutral color for a cool radiant person with low contrast level is optic white? I think a crisp navy and black item near my face washes me out. Is there another alternative? Thank you for your help und greetings from Germany :). I love your content!

A silvery gray would work very well! Stormy gray is for cool and delicate, warm gray for warm and delicate, and silvery gray for cool and radiant. Try that out. Like this one that ariana is wearing: www.elle.com/culture/celebrities/a30668688/ariana-grande-second-grammys-dress-2020/ but this one is more of a stormy gray and it's for cool and delicate: m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61lN9UJuebL._MCnd_SEARCH281250_AC_UL320_.jpg some grays look a bit brighter, almost like a 'silver' color. They're actually more cool toned, so this is why cool and radiant (the coolest undertone) can wear them nicely especially if they're low contrast. The coolest grays can also look more blue and more 'clear' or bright. It's hard to explain but I hope the pictures illustrate the difference.
@merriamstyle3 жыл бұрын
I found another image: westmagnoliacharm.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/SW-Blue-Gray-Paint-Colors.jpg The ones that stem from the blues on the right (the two second to last) are grays that could work for you. They're the coolest because they stem from blue. :) The ones that stem from the greens and teals (all others in the image) are for cool and delicate. Probably the one on the far right can work for both CR and CD though.

What is olive? i had seen it referred to as always cool but recently it seems people just label it as its own skintone. I can't decide if im a bright/true spring or winter. the vivids look amazing on me but warm/cool im still not sure.
@andyloftube4 жыл бұрын
I guess ”olive” usually refers to a medium value, muted yellow-green tone. So it is inherently a warm color not suitable for cool types. C&D might pull off a really greyed olive tone (away from face) where visible warmth almost has disapppeared in the mixed reds and blues needed for the ”greying down”. Not so warm ”olive” tones might be called ”sage” instead? You are right: Tricky these color name labels in written communication. Try explaining ”coral”, ”soft white”, ”cream”, ”taupe”, ”beige”...🤪

Okay, I have purple and turquoise veins. I'm definitely muted/ delicate. I'm white and very pale but I do have a lot of yellow in my skin. Every hairdresser I've been to, tells me that I'm warmtoned, but I only use cool-toned makeup. Red may be my worst color. I can't really imagine wearing brown clothing.. My best color is olive. Off white, grey and sand works fine for me. What am I?
@andyloftube4 жыл бұрын
kristin h Hmmm..but then warm browns should work well...? Maybe cool and delicate? Cool and warm Brights would probably be flattered by pure red.
@andyloftube4 жыл бұрын
kristin h I meant skin undertone is cool, overtone could look yellowish or neutral-warmish too if delicate type...would a warm medium brown top make face look dirty and tired, or uplifted and (mildly, it is a neutral) radiating?
@andyloftube4 жыл бұрын
kristin h I know, ”there are no cool yellows” video, that was fun, thanks! I still struggle with the idea though that someone cool (warm) and neutral could never wear any yellow (blue) successfully. But like Merriam says warms can handle cool colors ok, but cools are always ruined by warm colors (near face).
@andyloftube4 жыл бұрын
kristin h Great idea, thanks! I actually did something similar some time ago. I dragged a big pile of all kinds of random clothes: dark, light, muted, bright, warm, cool (although I struggled to tell which was which). I then took dozens of selfies in daylight by a window running those garments under my chin one by one (yes took an hour or two 😅...). Looking at the photos it became immediately clear dark, dull colors and warm and bight /strong colors made me look bad, pale tired or just drained. Ligher, fresher, cooler colors clicked. So in Merriam I land in between C&R and C&D, in 12 tones I am probably a Light Summer.
@Em-fx1hu4 жыл бұрын
Hey again. It doesn't really make sense to me, because warm-toned colors like brown, orange and red makes me look sick. I look way better in black and grey. Acording to Merriams guide on finding your season, if you look best in grey, then you are cool and muted. Take Kim Karsadhian for an example. Merriam considered her to be cool and muted even though she appears to have a lot of yellow in her skin and she looks amazing in olive, which is why olive is a central color used in Kanyes designs, along with browns and nudes.

What about pale complexion, blue eyed, light mousy haired cool undertone blondes who are overpowered by dark neutrals and high contrast, but dull greyed neutrals totally wash them out? Any beige, camel, orangish earthy colors are a total no go. What neutral colors are left to flatter but medium light pure or coolish grey and ivory white? :/

Look at Jen Thoden Color Theory. She explains how cool or warm, bright or soft, there is also a range of light, medium or deep. The deepest cool colors might not suit you, but the medium to lightest ones will. Or if you are what Merriam calls cool & delicate and Jen calls cool and soft, it might be that you can wear cool deep colors if they are soft/muted/grayed.

Hi! What happens when you have totally different undertones on your face compared to your body? I mean, unless I'm wearing a high coverage foundation... My face is very red, I know it's because of hormones, but I feel I'm cool and radiant on my face and warm and delicate on my body...

wear cooler colors near the face as well as jewelry and then wear warmer colors everywhere else, if you don't wanna bring out redness in your skin you might wanna look into colors that neutralize it haha. also having redness in the face alone doesn't necessarily make you cool, it's about what colors you look good on you and looking at the neck can help see your undertone. I think Merriam's video on warm overtones and cool undertones(or the other way around) might also be helpful to you

Hello Meriam! We had a conversation here earlier on one of your other videos. You saw a picture of me (from Jen Thodens video about olive skin tones) and you both kinda concluded that I could be soft/warm/medium or in your terms, Warm and Delicate. But here's the deal :-) I DONT think I look amazing in either creams tans and whites OR oranges and yellow because I am sooooo pale ... I actually look sick in them. And then I saw your other video about pale girls always being bright, but I find bright bright colors overpowering ... and now Im totally confused. Am I doomed to always look sickly? It seems like my only good neutral color is navy! and rose gold. I would love for you to give me some advice :-)
@merriamstyle4 жыл бұрын
Oh hello! I think you're still warm and delicate, I don't think you're light enough to be like Nicole Kidman. I would say that your warm colors are too warm, you could watch my video on Mila Kunis, and also on Zendaya. Also for you specifically, you have quite high contrast levels, so a terracotta for example would be lovely. If you wear beige or tan, it'll wash you out. Go for browns, soft dark olive greens, terracottas, warm burgundies. Try that! I think your issue is just like you said, you're very much close to neutral because you're lighter but warm, so you have to be careful not to go too rich or too warm. You can certainly also reach for cool colors such as teals and 'warm' purples.
@merriamstyle4 жыл бұрын
oh and think also about peachy colors and coppers, since rose gold is lovely, rose gold is really the test of warm and delicate. I think your colors have just been either too rich or too light.

(I think) C&R here and I am kind of annoyed at C&R's neutrals. All the other undertones may not have pure black and white, they have the whole range of values of grey, brown, also olive, maroon, blush (which are kind of semi-neutrals but are quite muted). C&R...Black & white. That's it. I am medium value, and nor black nor white are my ebst colours because of that. I kidn of crowned cool red and icy pink neutrals because of that reason, being lucky to be a gamine and pulling of weird coloru combo's.
@gittevandevelde22084 жыл бұрын
@Zoe All greys are somewhat muted though. I like a very silvery, bright grey but they're very hard to find and still, as a gamine, they're very 'understated' on me and playign it up with colour and texture is necessary.

If you are BW i.pinimg.com/originals/56/83/7b/56837be1bb94a3b6db580c69f7518e2b.jpg then neutrals indeed are limited to shades of grey. But you could treat those dark blues and reds as dark neutrals. And I wonder what Gamine would (not) do with those juicy lime, coral and lemon yellow colors? 😊
