The efficiency matters, you need to make several plotting attempts using different settings (40, 60, 80, 90) and the difference may be about 30 steps (For bubble to Colonia) 58 ly jump efficiency 95%: 218 jumps 58 ly jump efficiency 60%: 133 jumps So they should not call this parameter efficiency at all, they should call route deviation. And that is about an hour of gameplay difference. Also it matters a lot the jump range of the ship like the difference between 60 anf 70 ly for the base jump ship, that can be a significant overall difference. 70 ly jump efficiency 95%: 160 jumps 70 ly jump efficiency 80%: 104 jumps 70 ly jump efficiency 60%: 99 jumps -So play around the efficiency parameter so you are sure you are plotting around a sweet spot. -Those little over engineering modifications and downgrading modules end up considerably shorten your travel time, when you get into big numbers like 22 000 ly ranges. Last but not least, when trying different combinations it is better to prefer the highest efficiency version, because the less deviation means less fuel is consumed moving in a straight line, that is because fuel refuel time is also a bottle neck. The splash does not have built in optimization per se, so this would allow for some route optimization. Ideally you want to: 1. minimize the number of steps, 2. however you want to plot in a straight line as much as possible With only two parameters you can achieve some additional route optimization manually without more complex algorithms. In the example above 70 ly jump efficiency 80%: 104 jumps may be better than 70 ly jump efficiency 60%: 99 jumps, because that route even if you have more stops you have a straighter line, and this will consume less fuel.

Neutron route plotting is already an option in-game, including stops for fuel, as mentioned at 6:08 No idea why he's using a third party app for this. If you want to jump at sub-max range for fuel efficiency, there are a few options which are easier than copy pasting between windows. Add fuel tanks, disable guardian booster for plotting, or just manually pick a neutron from the map in the direction you're heading.

Correct if you repair FSD during supercruise it would drop you down and your ship will be damaged so no repair during sc.. Neutron router only uses known neutron stars so if you want to explore new ones you shouldn't use it. You can try using the game's router around 1000 ly range while jet-cone boost is checked which sometimes gives amazing routes with many unexplored neutron stars and even includes stops for fuel scooping but mostly wastes your time and fails to prepare a proper route then you need to only select non-sequence stars and visiually find neutron stars which is fairly easy between the core and bubble, plus you can explore a lot of black holes by this way.

There's a couple neutrons in the bubble and a few white dwarves. The white dwarves are the ones that you tend to get routed through all the time when plotting a route across the bubble with jet cone boosts turned on. Neutrons tend to be on the fringes and more useful for leaving the bubble... Lalande 25224 is up at the top of the bubble, and although the A star isn't a neutron, you jump into the B star which is, and is a good jumping off point for heading up to Quince.

Relatively a new player. Less than a year since I've started. I fly in the black via XBox. I actually used this method and the same plotter to go to Colonia. I didn't wanna grind anymore for engineering so I only lightened my Anaconda enough to have a jump range of 30.13 LY. Kept a few weapons and modules on my ship since I didn't wanna send for it and pay alot for them. Started in Sothis and it took me over 280 jumps if I recall. The AFMU saved me. I don't play as often as I want but overall I spent 2 weeks to head there. I did lots of detours, went to the Eagle Nebula and 2 Guardian sites in my travels. Gathering materials along the way to have extra cushion if I used my AFMU too much. Ran too low on fuel once due to a miscalculation, rectified that issue quick since I was in a sort of supercluster of stars. Got well over 30 Mil in exploration data plus my name on many stars and planets. Didn't see a black hole along the way but Sagittarius A* is next once I do some tweaks to my ship. All in all It was fun and I'd do it again without hesitation. Just gonna make sure I work on that jump range.

Standardized NS exclusion zone has been 0.13ls but I don't know if that's been changed as certain black holes have been "tweaked" and no longer have the old standard 24km exclusion zone. All NS I've seen in past months are still at 0.13ls. My suggestion is always to avoid getting closer than 0.36ls. General "scoop" I place in the outer 1/3rd or 1/4th of the cone depending on activity/type of the cone itself (is it really weak jet or a millisecond spin with a massive like 20ls long cone?) and go in slow and steady just as you say, zero throttle once entering but just try to hold attitude following the cone's ejection. Standard Highway paths are also usually -1000y or +1000y on the galactic plane in GalMap. Better neutron density down there once you head well out of the bubble and useful for crossing from Bubble to Colonia quite rapidly for example.

I think that neutron plotter doesn't work if your starting spot is undiscovered. You have to get to a discovered (and recorded) star for it to be able to know the system. Excellent vid Astro - did 3 neutron jumps after watching this and never done one before today.

@BlueSideUp 4 жыл бұрын
Good video for beginners, thanks. Suggest you do one without external tools. In VR or for Console players this is very inconvenient. Actually you can fly to the beginning of the Neutron Highway to Colonia and plot a route in game to the end of it in two steps. Bubble to Colonia directly doesn't work as the in game router doesn't go below the Galactic plane that far. Everything else, including Scoop jobs, is then taken care of by the in game router. And one more tip: no downsizing of fuel tanks to gain jump range. That is counter productive because of the frequent refueling jumps to a scoopable Star. Colonia can be a 3 hour trip with honking of the systems and checking for Earthlikes.

@musifter9126

The in game router will plot that far below the plane... the problem is that it's going to try to straight line the route between the two, so you're slowly going to descend from 0 to 1000ly down, only getting down to the lower neutron layer at the end. But if you can plot a route to that layer from the start... diving to say 1300-1500ly at the start while moving out and towards the centre so your other coordinates are also above 1000ly (to get out of the Sol centric neutron dead zone), then you'll be in a position for the in game router to plot a route inside the layer, and it does that very well. Using the in game router this way also gives you the ability to hit undiscovered neutrons. Third party apps are really useful to find a route to a neutron layer, because they'll hit neutron paths well off the straight line. Get a short path to the layer and bookmark the neutrons at the end of large gaps without them, then you can close the browser and just use those bookmarks with in game routing to get a fast route to the layer where the in game tools work very well.

Neutron route plotting is already an option in-game, including stops for fuel, as shown at 6:08 If you want to jump at sub-max range for fuel efficiency, there are a few options: - Add fuel tanks - Disable guardian booster for plotting - Just manually pick a neutron from the map in the direction you're heading Go a thousand light years above or below the galactic plane, and a thousand to the left or right, then neutrons will become abundant as you move towards the core. Happy neutrunning.
@Lord6
@Lord6 2 жыл бұрын
So, do please forgive my ignorance here but the "go a thousand ly's" this and that way - how... how does one do that? Do you mean by using neutron stars? I see a thousand light years and I see like 80 jumps at least for me, and that.. is a long time jumping and scooping. Is it because I haven't gotten guardian FSD's yet? I've been playing for.. a while, just very likely quite inefficiently, I suppose.
@7heHorror
@7heHorror 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lord6 I mean the coordinates on the galaxy map, Sol is at 0, 0, 0. If you jump 1kly above or below Sol on the map and 1kly to one side, the coordinates will be 1000, 1000, 0. Once you also get a few thousand lightyears towards the galactic core (maybe around 1000, 1000, 5000), you will start to notice neutrons everywhere. The "neutron highway" can be found wherever the first two coordinates are above +/- 1000, and also a few thousand lightyears closer to the core than the bubble. Look at the map about halfway to Colonia, filter for non-sequence stars only and you can see the boundary I'm talking about 1kly above or below the galactic plane. Have a mass-optimized ship with a-rated and engineered FSD, guardian FSD booster is worthwhile.

The Highway is the main reason I have an extra fuel tank on my exploration ship. It allows me to make more jumps before I have to step off to scoop fuel, perhaps have a higher chance of encountering a close NS-main sequence binary so I don't have to step off at all. The other reason is that I can't think of anything else to put that slot. The Spansh plotter is a wonderful tool, but note that it relies on a database to know the stars. No biggie on well-travelled areas, but when you are trying to plot from out of nowhere it gets more annoying. Players should install one of the programs that uploads more stars to the database. Besides doing your service to the community, the plotter will always find your starting system that way. I use EDDiscovery myself. The in-game plotter is not that bad either in these days. I've been trying this: Use Spansh to get to the NS layer and then use regular route finder to get to the final NS on the list that Spansh gives me. Skipping all the suggested ones in between.

Hello, A very nice tutorial video. However, allow me to improve on your technique a little. It makes it quicker and safer. So, most of the time you arrive at a Neutron Star at a sharp angle relative to the jet cone. (Always arrive with your throttle set to 0). So instead of going to the "equatorial" region first, point the nose of your ship towards the star and roll it so that the jets go sideways in your view port. This way you can easily compare the apparent length. Since both jets are equal in size, the one that seems shorter will be pointing away from you. This is not the one you want. Turn your ship towards the end part of the one pointing towards you instead. If you end up arriving in a way that both seem equal then it doesn't matter. Always head towards the outer tip of a jet. There's a challenge with the less active NS's since the jets are so short that if you go straight for the tip, you may still end up in the exclusion zone. To prevent this, always fly perpendicular to the NS itself from where you arrive, towards the outer tip of the jet of your choosing (just observe your sensor readings). The last thing, I try to enter the jet with the lowest speed possible, preferably under 2Mm/s. It may take a little longer to supercharge the FSD but it's better than turning around and doing another flyby because you went through too quickly. Secondly, yes, you can start repairing your FSD in the Supercruise but it's a very bad idea. Starting repairs takes the module offline - you'll do an emergency drop and most likely take some damage over all components. It seems kind of obvious but I had to learn this the hard way. Duh!
@musifter9126
@musifter9126 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, I always use the one pointing away from me and fly around the star and then in. Using the one pointing towards me and pulling a U-turn to get into it has resulted in me clipping the edge of the cone and getting pulled into it with the star in view in front of me too many times. And by too many I mean once... because there's nothing in the game as terrifying as knowing you're in a neutron cone facing the wrong way.

@@musifter9126 Thanks for pointing this out. You're right. If the jet pointing towards you is short and you're very close to it you may and up flying into it with the NS in front of you. This is indeed very dangerous. However, the probability of this situation is rather low but in such a situation, I would turn towards the near end of the jet while maintaining a course perpendicular to the NS itself. However, if you emerge from the hyperspace near the jet and its end is ahead with the NS a but further along, it may just mean, the jet is just too short anyway. I don't even know if there are such things in the ED universe. I've certainly neve r seen one like that.
@tomaszkisiel9915
@tomaszkisiel9915 4 жыл бұрын
@@cmdrjosky The thing with ED's navigation is, with the speeds the ships fly, it is still good enough to fly with straight lines from A to B. Avoiding an exclusion zone of a star is a case when you need to think in spherical and circular terms. You need to "orbit" the NS at a constant distance until you're where you need to be (say, a jet on the other side).
@musifter9126
@musifter9126 4 жыл бұрын
@@tomaszkisiel9915 The problem I was talking about wasn't a case of me flying into the cone with the star in front, it was a long jet pointing towards me and going over my shoulder so I needed to pull a tight 180 to get the star behind me and then enter. But I clipped the edge of it before getting fully around and the turbulence started turning me back towards the star. The lesson was to stay safely away from the cones during maneuvers to line up. And the safest way I've found to do that in this sort of situation (one of the cones pointed in my direction) is to not try and rush a tight turn to get lined up facing away for the near cone, but safely drive off to the side and past the star and line up for the far cone with a more straight approach that isn't rushed at all. Because neutrons are perfectly safe as long as you respect them.

I used my first one just the other day. Then I used another. Then another. Then another, all the way from Deciat to Colonia, arriving just yesterday, deviating only occasionally to scoop, and not once did I blow up, let alone even so much as tickle an exclusion zone. I don't understand some people's stories online. Sure, crashing once or twice is understandable, but the way some people just straight-up filter them out so they never see them again? How? Why? Just aim for the tip, approach shallow, move slow. No problemo. Not a brag, I just don't get some people's irrational fear of them

Im still too nervous to even jump into a system with a neutron star. My first or second day of playing ED, I was heading somewhere in my sidewinder (maybe it was the cobra, I dont remember) and I jumped into a white dwarf system not knowing what it was. Panic ensued, I did a full 180, and got out of there as soon as I could. Only ever jumped into another white dwarf / neutron one other time, panicked less but still immediately left. Those things still make me uncomfortable. I used to feel the same about landing on planets, I refused to do it cause I didn't want to get that close. Now I kind of like doing it and all that. I even get the warning "Your FSD is operating beyond safe limits" some small number of times when flying normally in SC in normal systems, far from the star. Don't know if that is going to boost me, never jumped immediately with that effect, so it could just be random shizzle. Could you share your loadout? also when I plot a route with all the same filter settings as in your video, which is nice and detailed thanks, Cone boost set on etc.. my FSD shows a jump distance of 161LY at the time of plotting but it plots a normal route only... Next jump is 38LY away and mine can do 42LY current as standard. I must be doing something wrong but I just can't see where
@AndreaP76
@AndreaP76 3 жыл бұрын
You don't need the "best" modules for exploration builds, but the lighter and less demanding, obviously except the FSD the should be the best you can use, so you pretty much should use a ship built just for that to achieve the max jump range possible. Personally, I don't see the point of using an Anaconda for exploration even if, when engineered, it has the highest jump range in game (about 80ly with an empty tank). The DBX has the second one, just about 5ly less and it's the cheapest one to buy and equip. Another good ship is the Krait Phantom, about another 5ly jump less than the DBX but can use a faster fuel scoop so you will probably travel the same distance in the same time. Also, if you plan to land on planets too, small and medium ships are a lot better. Engineering: stripped down is good for power plant and thrusters and eventually shield generator if you use it, but for the FSD you should chose mass manager, go light weight scanner for sensors. Weapons and/or utility mounts too are not needed. And if you haven't done it yet, unlock the guardian frame shift booster, depending on the ship, it will add up to 10.5ly per jump. That's it, there isn't anything else to do for an exploration build than use the cheapest and lightest modules possible and engineer them. So don't try to use your probably all-around everyday ship as an exploration ship, there's no point in that, use one just build for that.

Am I right in saying if you ever want to go on a long explore trip (e.g. 20,000+ light years) you should never attempt Neutron jumping? Because there's always a slim slim chance you will get killed even if you know what you're doing, thus it's not worth it? It's certainly the case that explorers going out of Colonia use neutrons. Colonia sits right on top of the lower neutron layer, about a 1000ly down, and that allows you to get out of Colonia to just about anywhere in the central area of the galaxy really fast (Sacaqawea Space Port is the half way point by distance to Colonia, but you can get to it from Colonia really fast by staying low in the galaxy and only coming up once you're almost at the Skaudai nebula). There's an upper layer 1000ly up as well, and they thin out as you get away from the center or if one of your other coordinates is
@thiefofa1073

Musifter's reply if I saw it correctly (before it was quickly deleted - I can't see the comment any more) was that people use Neutrons to quickly get out of Colonia, then warp using normal stars from there on. Is this correct? Sounds like a time saver. Use them to get out of the core quickly on to the way to Colonia.
@musifter9126
@musifter9126 4 жыл бұрын
@@thiefofa1073 It's that the early part of a trip has less to risk. Colonia is at a point where it sits just on top of a large layer of neutrons that can get you out to places quickly, the Sol Bubble is in a neutron void away and doesn't have that advantage. So using neutrons to get out from Colonia to an area is natural because there's little to lose. Coming back with neutrons has more risk because you could lose the data. But most explorers are comfortable enough with neutrons to do that because they've done hundreds of neutrons, but if you're feeling risk averse then simply don't use them.
@Kissamiess

@@Apolleone That test was probably before the in game router could handle jet cone boosts and using neutrons had to be done manually. You can get much closer to the optimal speed with boosting if you get into the neutron layers where you can use the in game plotter and it will give you a route with stops for refueling all lined up so you don't need to do any added work, just jump. I typically use the third party app only when I'm outside the neutron layer, and often just to get to it as fast as possible. Even then, I don't use it strictly, I just bookmark the key neutrons on the route it gives me and use the in game plotter between those (so I never have to switch out of the game after I've done this preparation work). The key neutrons are the once after a long series of non-boosted jumps, as those mark the ends of neutron voids you'll want to get out of... getting to a neutron and having the boosted jump range is the best way to get into a chain of neutrons (synth boosts can be a substitute if you're willing to use them to get through a void faster).
