Hey Neveah, Just a tip from a Grampa living in Georgia. When you get into your hot car open all the windows when the AC starts (for about 30 seconds) and let out the built up heat so the AC does not have to work so hard to cool you back down. If you ever have a sun roof, that lets the heat out even faster. It's good to have ME time, embrace it.

And it’s also a great habit to lock doors as soon as you get in and out. Doors locked when fueling. If you’re lucky only the driver door unlocks unless double pressed for opening of all doors. Always look into your back before getting in. Fairly sure your parents have said all this but still. My youngest is 17 and I’ve drummed it in. Be safe. Have fun. Drive awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Hey Nevaeh! I’m a guy with over twenty years of transporting automobiles. In the heat of summer, start your engine, turn your a/c up to Max (make sure the mixer is set to recirculate, so you’re not trying to cool off hot air from outside) and put the driver’s door window down about three inches, get out and close the door for a minute or two. I used this trick for years on hot vehicles that were parked in the heat, and if the a/c worked properly(not always the case) it would force the hot air out through that open window. Leaving the window down a bit also leaves you space to get your arm in…just in case the car auto-locks itself (I learned that part the hard way.) Also, when fueling, always give the pump about five to ten seconds to clear before you pull it out of the tank inlet. Sometimes when you top off your tank it builds up pressure in the inlet pipe. And make sure you never pull the nozzle trigger while your taking it out. Happy motoring!

I guess the next trip into town will be for new sandals - the ones without the lawnmower scent. By the way, I suggest not to top off your gasoline tank, especially when the nozzle is still pushed in all the way. You saw that big round seal disk at the end of the nozzle that seals against the tank opening. It is designed to create a tight seal to prevent gasoline fumes from escaping into the environment during fueling. When you pull the pump trigger one last time after the nozzle has already shut itself off, it forces gasoline into the tank and puts it under pressure and as soon as that pressure gets too high, the fuel will come shooting out as soon as you try to remove the nozzle. Topping tanks off almost always leads to gasoline spills. Also, while topping off with older cars is not a big problem, newer cars with sensitive emission regulation sensors and electronics should never get topped off because it can create problems with the evap sensors that measure or detect evaporation leaks. Especially on hot days where the gasoline expands inside the tank, there must be empty space remaining for the gasoline to expand and not pressurize the tank and filler line, gas cap etc. The best practice is to pump until the nozzle shuts off by itself and then let it be good at that.

Also, I want to support and encourage the comment from another subscriber of how valuable self talk is. It helps you think through things, put the right amount of priority on some things, and take priority away from other things that shouldn’t have it. It is a good way to get perspective from your self. Talking to yourself makes you be more comfortable in your own skin, which is a huge part of getting through life and enjoying it, which is the goal. All the best.

When you get in a hot car, roll all the windows down to let the hot air out so your car will cool faster. If you spill gasoline on your skin, just wash with soap and water at the gas station restroom. That you can avoid any irritation if you have sensitive skin. You can also use body wipes that you use when camping. I keep a pack in my car in case I spill. I also keep a couple towels in my car to wipe off any spilled fuel from my car's paint. Best bet is to not top off. Once the pump clicks off, just pull the nozzle out. Great to see you out in the wild! Keep it up! All things come with time!

You did very well for your first trip out by yourself! Brought to mind my first time out with my license "elevedy and scateyeight years ago"! Another quick tip, in warm weather, never top off your gas tank. That's what can too easily happen. One static spark or a stray "source of ignition" nearby can ignite those extremely flammable and explosive gasoline vapers. You could have been severely injured. When the nozzle clicks off the first time, don't squeeze it to the second stop. You don't gain that much. So be safe!

When there are hot temperatures outside, please do not top off the fuel tank. (Fuel needs room to expand in high heat). You can put hose into fueltank, then press pump handle until it clicks to load fuel into fueltank. It will hold in that position. If you use a medium flow force, then it will shut off automatically when it foams near the tank neck. You can stand at the pump with one hand or finger on car (to dislodge static so no spark occurs or when you pick up the fuel nosel when regrabbing fuel pump handle to stop flow. Listen & you can hear pitch change of fuelflow near fuel tank neck. Now aware of this, I am sure you will hear it next fill up. When rainy, cold, &/or icy outside, remember to remain with pump while fueling. If bad weather & you must go inside car to thaw out before tank is full, you MUST be sure to make hand contact car to de-static yourself before reaching for the pump handle. Also yet take Dad with you to an empty parking lot to learn how you & car react to wet roads, snowy roads, icy roads concerning breaking in those conditions without other vehicles Always drive defensively & leave both time & space for the incorrect or dangerous actions of others & then you will be fine. Limit distractions (radio music or even talking with other passengers). If an animal runs across the road, please do not swerve. Keep eyes moving left to right & keep check of vehicles ahead (you following a vehicle), & behind (vehicles following you on road...break slowly). Talk with Dad about handling a tailgating vehicle before the next outing. Keep 1 second for every 10mph plus an extra second if 1/2 that mph , & 1 second more if sun glare or twilight or wet road or snowpacked road or wet on top of ice. You will do fine. If you go with siblings, then all wear seat belts & please no eating or drinking in a car while driving because it could cause choking. [Sorry, it's the special needs school bus driver leaking out of me]. You will do fine, I am sure. Always verify tips with Dad ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.

It looks like in the heat of the moment you mixed up two things. The gas had stopped. So, you have to squeeze the handle to make that little notched holder disengage. Then you need to fully release the handle. If you want to top up the gas a little, to make your charge a nice round number, you can squeeze the handle a little to let more gas in, and then fully release it. So, you appeared to do both at once. You squeezed the handle as you were removing the filler. The notched thingie popped back out, and then you released a little, and squeezed again, which caused more gas to flow as you were pulling the filler out. So, just remember it's two steps. First, do a squeeze to make the auto-fill notched doohickie release, and then fully release the handle. Then, if you want to squirt a bit more gas in, you can do quick little squeezes of the handle, and the overshoot by a few cents, like we all do. hehe. Just make sure you're not pulling the handle up as you remove the filler, and you should be fine. Honestly, since you're paying by card anyway, I wouldn't bother with the top-off squeezes. When it pops, just squeeze once to disengage the notched thing, release the handle and pull it out. In some states, like California, you can't even do the top-up thing. The filler will prevent you from pumping more gas once the auto-cutoff stops the gas the first time. Sorry for the drama, but glad there was ultimately no harm done other than a scare and some stinky clothes. Best of luck as you learn about the world without the whole family in tow. I'm sure it's really disorienting!

Great video for the first time by yourself. One hint do not top your gas off. When it shuts off, it is as full as the car wants it to be. Gas expands in the heat, putting more than the car wants will expand the gas and could still come out the fill. all so, your mother said you tend to ride on the right white line. Try lining the middle of the hood with the right white line, that should put right in the middle of the road. You may have to adjust a little bit one way or another but it works ninety nine percent of the time. Have fun and stay safe.

Some cars just shouldn't be 'topped off'... A piece of advice I wish I had know for years. Best time to get gas is early morning and dispense slow. I went getting fuel in my first car. Everything went smoothly. I sat down in the drivers seat and closed the door. A car door is basically a box made from two shells. On the top is an opening for the window, so on the top the shells are only connected front and back. The welding in the front broke and the door shells opened towards the front of the car like a book.😳 I sat there stunned, and aware i could not drive this way, it would have ripped the outer shell of the door off. 😨 So now what. Others were looking and laughing their butts off. Luckily there was also a repair shop and they welded the broken weld. All i had to do was painting the spot afterwards. That was in summer of 1984, half a year after i got my driving license. I never forgot this.

You can decrease the odds of it doing that by not giving a squirt after it has clicked off. (it is only 0.1 gallons anyway and not worth the difference.) Let it sit for 5-10 seconds after self-clicking at fill and the air pressure (formed by turbulent flow of gasoline into the tank) will dissipate. You will easily be able to outsmart the fuel pump the next time. Cheers!

Nevaeh never be afraid to go anywhere you want, having a licence is like stepping out into the world to explore new places and see things that you haven't had time to do. Anyway well done on getting your licence it took me a few time to get through the theory test but l passed 1st time driving any good luck on your driving, and stay off the phone as it distracts you. Thank for sharing your looking beautiful with that smile. ❤️🙏🏻

I've been a fan of your mom and dad's channel for a while (like you care, haha)... One tip - if you get food to go, take care of all your other stops first, then get food last so it stays hot as possible and, in this case, the pizza doesn't get too soggy. I did notice you squeezed the gas handle while you were taking it out, though. I did that when I was your age, too. ;) It's all part of life; live and learn.

Did you say Top Off when putting gas in the car? Usually means you went overboard with gas in the gas tank which causes to ruin the engine, When the nozzle makes a click sound means its done filling the gas tank for safety reasons. I watch "Scotty Kilmer" mechanic video in you tube to educate how to maintain a good car. Good video, making memories

Just a idea...to cool your car off. Get a front window.shade. Next roll down all the windows when you get in the car. The start your car and drive about 5 minutes. Then roll all the windows. What this does chases the hot air out.

I started driving on the highway when I was 14. We had cattle on another farm about 5 miles away and I had to go check on and feed them while my father tended to more important things on our dairy farm. I had been refueling tractors for several years before that and I made a few mistakes along the way. You will get more comfortable driving and refueling your car. The main thing is to always watch out for other drivers and keep your eyes on the road and near the road for the wildlife. You did very well for your first time on your own.

Just a tip. Don’t top off by trying to squeeze a tiny bit more in the tank. You’re only putting a bit in the line between cap and tank. It doesn’t make a big difference if you are monitoring gas tank properly anyway. (Don’t let below quarter tank rule I always follow) It can splash back like you had or cause a ‘vapor lock’ which can actually make the gas start draining back out. I never would of believed it myself but got gas one time went in and got groceries and when I came out half my tank was on ground. Nice older gentleman explained it to me and we had to just open the gas cap and recluse it to break the lock.I never did it again though.

Loved this video. You are such a joy to watch. I am 71 years old and a couple of years ago that gasoline thing happened to me. I asked the gas station attendant for some paper towels and cleaned up a little but the lady that worked there said it was my fault I didn’t know how to pump gas I’ve only been pumping gas for 30-40 years but all you can do is shrug, laugh and keep on going. Have fun with your new found freedom and stay safe!

Hey Neveah, don't top off the tank after the hose shuts off: some vehicles will draw gasoline into the EVAP system resulting in damage. You're doing great. Hang in there, have fun, and be safe!

Great video. I know you must be happy being a young person. You did very well on everything. When putting gas into your car always stand to the side of the fill hole and if gas shoots back you’ll be in the clear. I fill my cars until the nozzle clicks off that way the gas in the tank has room to expand.

You got this. Don't over think things. Just be aware of what everyone else around you is doing. Don't assume they are going to do the right thing or what they are signaling they are about to do. Leave yourself enough space to react. I have seen people do most everything over the years. Some ended badly. Take things slow. Most things happen when people get in a rush because they didn't allow themselves enough time to get where they are going. Be safe out there.

Both my younger brothers are in the hospital at the moment! Unfortunately they didn’t take good care of their bodies when they were younger, and still don’t eat properly! So sad to watch!

Hey Nevaeh. Don't worry about others looking or smiling at you, when you are learning - they just remember how it was for themselves. Those who scowl at it just don't remember how it was. - Truly, learn it well now, and get it easier the rest of your life or don't learn it now and struggle with it the rest of your life.... You are doing everything well for a first timer, so don't worry... 😉

Nevaeh, when running the gas pump, never add more in because that will happen. The pump will pop releasing the trigger. You won't have to top it off because the sensor in the pump stops the filling of the gas at the right moment. I think the designers of the pump did it that way for ones safety. peace

Get your windows TINTED....... By blocking out UV rays, window tints can make the inside of a vehicle significantly cooler and more comfortable, particularly during hot summer months. Window tints also reduce glare from the sun for greater comfort for your eyes., plus it will save you on Fuel, Accident safety, Increased privacy, Improved comfort, ...... Oh another thing..... did you know that you can open your windows just by holding down your open switch on your key fob.? its a great way to release all the hot air inside quicker.

Aww, this is just pure adorable. All these great new firsts for you. Lil tip: when pouring gas, hold the pump half pulled so it's not pumping out full force especially when it's hot. It'll put a lot of bubbles in the gas and you won't get as full a tank or all the gas you're paying for. And it'll spit at you like it did. lol Just go slower with the fill and it'll be fine, Proud of ya, you did great.

If you get gas on your skin, use the water hose at the pumps (there used to be these, i don't know if they are still there or not) and rinse your skin off. Gas and skin not a good combo. Nothing serious unless you swim in some gas, but more comfortable when rinsing gas off. I would not top off. Just my 2 cents. Good vid! Congrats on your first solo! 😁

You bought back memories of getting my first pay. I spent a lot on cookies marshmellows and stuff. Anyway you got me laughing with the candy and cookies scene, I don't know why I laughed but you are funny. One thing I can suggest on the fuel hose; those things you can control how much is coming out of the nozzle; and you can hear when it is getting full if you take notice of that, so slow it down when it gets near full. Or alternatively put the exact amount of gas you want and leave it to fill automatically after you learn to go by how much fuel is showing on the gauage, you will get an idea of how much you need. That was very entertaining, the adventures of Neveah.

Nevaeh, congrats on getting your license and what an exciting time and an awesome feeling with your new sense of freedom. Glad you made it safe back home. I love watching your whole family progress with home building etc. I’ve been driving over 30 years and it wasn’t until the last ten years I learned this. On the newer cars it’s never a good idea to top off the gas tank as it can lead to costly repairs. The engine light on your dashboard may light up warning you there is a problem. The evaporator system, charcoal canisters can get damage from over filling your tank cost a lot of money to fix. Never mind the nasty gas that spills on you makes it that much more unpleasant. Sorry that happened to you. Just stop filling up at the very first click. In the old cars back in the 70s or older, it was ok to top off. Not anymore. So searching on you tube on this topic may help you understand it better. Be safe out there, stay close to your family and keep singing your music. Blessings to your entire family.

When you did all the work learning to drive, it was for a test. Now you will learn new things every time you go out, whether alone or with your family. For a first trip, you did very well, and it looked like you had great fun. The thing with the gas, you should pat yourself on the back that you did not put diesel in the tank. I hope you have many years of trouble free driving Nevaeh.
