Holy smokes. I know its Neve, but without EQ's, Pre's and Comps - thats a lot of heft still needed in outboard.

Suggestion; why don’t you guys do a video of the 8424 in use in a “hybrid” recording and mixing situation where it’s connected to a DAW(Pro Tools) and an avid S3(or S1) since I can’t imaging using this for a mix session without fader automation. I would appreciate seeing the entire workflow scheme so I might get a better idea about all the pluses and minuses this board has to offer. So far the only video demos Ive seen are similar to this, more of a tease rather than going full on. Thanks!

I gotta say Neve, the lack of functionality of this product means I would basically be paying $25k for a Neve summing console. This is thoroughly disappointing

I like how they include the '73 eq sections in the all the product photos, as if you know... they came with it or something.

I understand why it seems expensive and lacking EQ, mic preamps, etc but this is really about workflow and it is very well thought out. It is providing hardware for a thoroughly modem setup. If your tracks, automation and bulk of effects are in the DAW this is a great setup to get work done quickly and add the Neve sound

Looks lovely. But the lack of any kind of DAW integration at all, is a bit of a worry. I am not sure on the cost, but seeing as it is Neve, I get the feeling it isn't going to be cheap. If I am going to be investing 10s of thousands in a console with no EQ, I would like some DAW control. The SSL Matrix is probably the most direct competition for this, and that does a lot. This one looks a lot nicer though, and I am sure the summing sounds lush.

What do you mean DAW integration? Its an Analog Console still, Not a Digital Console. And you can still integrate this or most any other analog desk with a DAW, just not in the same way as a Digital Console, because it's not a Digital Console. Or do you mean some other kind of integration that other Analog consoles have that this doesnt? Can you be more specific what you mean by DAW integration?

What's the difference between AMS Neve and Rupert Neve Designs?

I got to 2:35 and blurted out, "wait, wtf?!" Two preamps on that whole desk?!" Bold move Neve. Enough of us are DIY guys who buy parts on mouser.com and build gear too. We know the cost of these parts. No EQ's? No pre's? I've never seen an audio company leverage their model numbers and heritage to the customers disadvantage like Neve. Neve designs is even worse. It's an 80 series summing buss. So to most of us, it's a giant 8816 with a control surface and I/O.At frst I was like, "looks like the console for me, I might actually buy this!" Nope. I do like digital recall but c'mon we've had that since the late 70's. Still waiting for the right console. This is a glorified Digi desk (which you can get an old control 24 for a grand don't forget. You just use an old OS and you've got this minus a couple of their golden goose 1073's).

Excellent feature set and such a great size with a high channel count, so well thought out for those of us who have seen the ams-neve videos on this. Quite a lot of functionality in spite of what some critics have claimed.

No motorized faders no DAW control, stingy on EQs and mic pres makes this board arrogant and overpriced. The 30k that they are asking for this board would be better spent on other brands and options.

Very nice video! Is the console connected to Apollo interface? If so, how many Apollos would I need to run the console? Thank you so much!
@AMSNeveLtd

Hi, our Neve studio setup has 3 Apollo 16's giving up to 48 I/O, but the console can be used with any interface I/O count, from 8 all the way to 48. Depending on how you want to use the console, an 8 channel interface would give you 8 recording inputs and 8 returns from the DAW to mix, but a 32 channel interface would give you 24 direct outs from every console channel, Stereo mix, and group outputs as well as returning up to 32 channels from the DAW to be mixed through the console surface.

It’s ridiculous that the faders cant just simply snap back into position! So when you go to layer 25-48 do the faders snap to where ever they was positioned? That would be more work to have to recall the position itself manually just to flip between layers...So if the faders are able to switch layers back and forth snapping from and too..why cant recall snap the faders back to their saved position instead of having to manually move the fader itself until you get a “ Matched “ reading. Also if the console has no EQ and no DYNAMICs ...where is the personality ? It’s just a huge summon buss ?

Does anyone know if these have Output transformers and on the preamps? Im just asking because I wasn't much of a fan of what they did with the OPX having no OP Transformers. So just hoping they didnt follow that topology here, because it looks very interesting!

Nice but hardly a solution for the studios it's aiming at. I would pay for a 12 or 16ch version with EQ/COMP/PRE.

So my drum kit of 15 mics won't get the full Neve treatment in this console with only two preamps?

Question,: During mixdown, can both channel inputs access sends and groups , or only one input per channel (i.e. during mixdown, can 48 inputs access the buses and sends, or only 24) ? Also, do the 48 inputs have direct outs, or 24 at a time? Thank you.
@joeheaton8103
@joeheaton8103 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, ok so there are three available inputs (A/B/C). (Really the console has 72 total channel inputs with 48 simultaneous mixdown inputs) The channel strip can be fed by A or B (DAW or RECORDING Line-In). Whichever is selected on that channel strip accesses the full routing - sends, inserts, direct outs, busses, etc. The A/B switch chooses this input per channel strip. But input A or C can also be fed to the channel strip Stereo Cue send. From here the routing is different, ST Cues cannot be sent via AUX's, neither can they be sent via channel Direct Outputs, but they can access the channel Insert and can be routed to the ST Cue master bus, then optionally sent to the Stereo Mix. They can also be sent to Groups 3+4, at which point they have access to all of the group routing, inserts, direct outs etc... So basically 24 at a time (A or B) can access the full console routing and the additional 24 (25-48) inputs have slightly limited routing options. Hope that helps. JH
I never GAVE UP, and finally got a $100,000 NEVE Console!
