Most of these cards sold by Soyo, MLLSE, Elsa, etc are made from recycled parts, or in some cases, are used cards that were cleaned up/refurbished, then rebadged with new heatsinks, fan shrouds and fans etc. A good example of that would be like the Elsa RX 5700 that was sold on NewEgg and elsewhere. It was actually a XFX RX 5700 DD Ultra. They basically removed the XFX logo paint that was on the pcb silkscreen, stickers on the fans, and painted logo on the metal heatsink shroud, and swapped the metal bracket for a generic double slot one. I basically have avoided all this stuff like the plague because of that. Also, some of the "oxidization" you might be seeing on the pcb is actually left over flux all over the pcb silkscreen from a plain water wash. While it's not immediately harmful, eventually that stuff if its bridging solder joints or present on vias can short things out as the chemical properties of the flux change over time. Best way to get rid of it is to set up a tub with 91 percent alcohol and give the pcb a complete scrub down. This isn't necessarily a problem related to these cheap cards either. It used to be a problem from major card makers. XFX got caught up in some drama during the mid 2000s when people were having to RMA Radeon HD 5000 series cards that were dying and XFX was blaming customers. They basically were sending customers RMA denials with pics of flux on the PCB and saying customers did it and saying that's why the cards died.

I wouldn't buy a RX 580 from AliExpress, but I did buy an ELSA RX 5700XT and it worked fine. I played games on it for hours and tested it for weeks and had no issues. Have you tried getting a refund or return from AliExpress?
@ProYamYamPC
@ProYamYamPC Ай бұрын
I tried to get the refund via PayPal, but seemingly the seller wanted me to pay for shipping. SO I thought I'd get this content out of the card instead

Not buying a card from Aliexpress is a better suggestion. Many of these cards are refurbished so it's essentially used chip in a new board

these brands are always hit or miss, I have mine same Chinese company named Aisurix still working since December 2022 and I give it to my friend as a gift last April cuz I upgraded to RX 6600 from ASUS. Always buy at your own risk when it comes to these brands, if you don't risk no choice just buy a known branded one

That "resistor" looks like a capacitor (can't see clearly, for some reason, your pictures looks blurry to me). If that's the root of the issue, you can just remove it and most likely will work fine without it. Remove it with a soldering iron or carefully with a pair of pliers. I just wish you have tried claiming the warranty though, just to see if they even honour it and the process of doing so for future potential buyers and ofcourse for content.

until it displayed out after the quick clean job, i was thinking maybe it was just a fuse, i reckon it was a refurb/recycled card, its unlikely a brand new card would corrode so fast.

The only card I have ever bought from AliExpress was a low profile Yeston RX550 that has been working for seven years in a Lenovo SFF alongside a Xeon E3-1260L, also from AliExpress. As many are saying, it's hit or miss, but Yeston has become an established brand. I recommend them over other Chinese brands.

The pcb looked exactly like my newly bought 2nd hand xfx rx580 2048sp. I bought it almost a month ago and it didn't last a week when experienced issues such as drivers failing, games freezing, display sometimes cutting out. I managed to fix it by trying out different drivers together with undervolting it in msi afterburner. The most stable driver I had with it so far is the old adrenalin driver from 2020, then I ramped up the fan profile then the clock speed from 2286 - 2262 and lastly lowered the power draw by -10.

That's probably a reused GPU die they wash these mining cards they pull from spray em out with water hose it's really not much cheaper than a used RX 580 from a known brand I just steer clear

This is a fake ELSA gpu, the gpu is RX560. ELSA sells the real deal, but you have to order it from their specific store. Don't ask me how I know... The heat sink on this is a total joke and it only resembles the real ELSA heatsink. But not on the back side and also none, literally none of the thermal pads make any contact with the heatsink.

Problem with RX 400/500 series is that they've been around since 2016 and most of it went to mining farms multiple times (twice or even more). I don't mind with refurbished things, it's good to recycle parts that can be used again (less waste). Not to mention that most of the parts (like it's gddr5 vram) could come from multiple sources (it's not 100% similar with each vram). Again, if you know with the risk then go ahead. Buy it. If you're desperate, try getting the newer cards like the 2060s, 1660s, 5500s, 5600s, etc. What people forget that Polaris went through 2 cycle of mining crazes, unlike the newer parts.

That thermal paste doesn't look right. Looks like some extreme pump-out happened here, which you'd expect if the core blew. The burnt resistor kinda confirms that the core likely drew way more power than it should have. Something tells me that resistor is in the +12V circuit going to the core and it probably failed and took out the core. How is it you don't immediately do a continuity check on that obviously blown resistor? I gave a thumbs up because this is a good PSA but I also think you're at the point where getting a SMT rework station and studying some basic board repair would be good for your channel.

The only 2304 I've seen recently is from MLLSE (the 590 GME which is technically an overclocked 580). I don't know how good is their reputation right now so I can't recommend it

Well least its not fake, there was a spate of selling refurbished GTS450's and VBIOS flashing them as something like a GTX1060, GTX1050, GTX1660 or similiar and selling them as such, ELSA is a well known brand name but like from 20-25years ago maybe longer, so im not convinced its made by ELSA, number 1 i dont think a name brand product would have poor quality plus since the company hasnt been seen in years is it really an ELSA card? According to Wikipedia ELSA was founded 1980, there German company went bankrupt in 2002, Tawainese company also went bankrupt in 2003 however the Japanese company continues passed 2002 though im still not convinced its a genuine ELSA card given the poor quaility.

From the factory, this card had oxidisation, and the general lack of QC with this card would not have helped its longevity and reliability
