Almost every death ive experienced in this game that wasnt lag induced was due to over confidence or complacency. Taking it slow, having an escape route at all times, making sure you are properly equipped and stocked on food, and knowing when to turn back will avoid 95% of deaths. I'll add accidents to my list of main death causes. Though I suppose that can be a form of complacency. Not quite judging the reach of the pointy fist golem and getting yeeted off the mountain. Backing into bushes moving away from a Troll. Darn slopes sucking my stamina bar in 1 second flat. Getting dogpiled by greydwarves who hold you in place for big blue and his club. . . LOL. 🤣

@SpazzyjonesGaming
@SpazzyjonesGaming Ай бұрын

@thejustlawofshamash
@thejustlawofshamash Ай бұрын
Running away should be reserved for fights that are absolutely hopeless for you, i.e. getting too close to the plains when in a swamp and getting a stray deathsquito or fuling coming after you when you are in late bronze or early iron gear. Tough but manageable fights you should always stand you ground for, and be prepared for those fights to happen with good foods and having meads as a backup. When you run away from tough but manageable fights, i.e. an abomination in the swamps when you're in bronze or early iron gear, you run the risk of pulling a whole bunch of other mobs on top of you. Now you have the situation where the abomination, a bunch of draugr, oozes, and leeches are all on top of you, and one wrong move leaves you with a corpse surrounded by an army. It's very easy in those panic situations to run into a rock or a tree that you didn't see, or accidentally go into deeper water. Also, you are incredibly likely to run out of stamina and be unable to defend yourself when you do get backed into a corner and have to fight. When encountering a tough monster, and you want to go further, use a bow to bring it to you rather than trying to run past it or fight it wherever it is. This makes it less likely you'll have to deal with wandering mobs at the same time as the tough monster. Preparedness and situational awareness are key. Even if you are in late game gear, don't get complacent and wander through the black forest with no or little foods, as a troll can still take you out if you aren't ready for it. Or a 2 star draugr archer in the swamps, a pack of wolves with a 1 or 2 star alpha in the mountains, a 2 star fuling or a group of growths in the plains, etc. I also don't hang out at base without eating anything. At base, I eat either early game foods I have leftover, or foods that are easily made from entirely farmable crops/meat like bread. That way you aren't caught with your pants down during a raid.
@jerrythelobster7
@jerrythelobster7 Ай бұрын
also you can easily dodge big enemies, usually even without sprinting. With trolls you just barely get out of range when you just walk straight away when they attack (with walking Its not consistent because 1) they can have a log and 2) they sometimes also move a bit forward when they attack so they get just enough distance to hit you/they get pushed forward by something else). I use trolls to chop wood I cant obtain / mine copper for me, I just come to them, let them start the attack, sprint away and repeat, I rarely get hit. But it also depends on the terrain, sometimes you cant do stuff like this, then you have to just run away. Best thing to do is walk away, when the troll swings sprint a bit and then again walk, you dont lose much stamina and usually you regain every point (if youre rested/eiktyr).

It's easy to do isn't it. Just a bit more. What's over this hill. I am doing well I can scout more. Just big open plains I can see for miles, just be cautious. Suddenly it's night, you're in a swamp being chased by two wraiths and 4 draugrs, you're wet and unrested, run into a plains with a squad of fullings and a couple of deathsquitos and on the other side is another swamp when you meet your demise. Far from a shore. Far from a portal. LOL. Took a while to recover that body. But skirting mobs in the plains and having a basic bow for the few deathsquitos (after the try with finewood bow) made it an adventure. . . 🤣

Ohh - I've done that too. . . Worst I had was out sailing to collect ship load of ore. on return decided to go around the back of the Island to chart it and connect on the southern side. Turned out to be a very large continent, found a river but that led to inland sea, got out and further round no end in sight, decided to collect a convenient cloudberry patch. Squito got me. Even with what I had mapped, it would take at least 30 mins of sailing. Once I mined more copper, tin, smelted and built a new boat let alone gear. . . LOL. But that's some of the fun of Valheim. Where what seemed to be a shortcut turns into a nightmare slog that after 1 hour you decide to sail back the way you came because it might be faster than proceeding. Even when I mod - I tend to never use the teleport items to remove the need to sail.

With a copper knife and good knife skill you can sneak up on a troll and use the special attack (middle mouse button) to do massive amount of damage. Usually over 60% of their hp. Then just keep hitting them and the stagger will interrupt their first attempt to retaliate. Make sure you have 2 of 3 of your food slots with good stamina foods, and give your stam a second to regen after the sneak, and just before striking.

Would it make anyone mad to know I've never died to a tree in Valheim? Trees actually tend to fall in the direction you're facing when you cut them, angled trees notwithstanding. This gives you SOME degree of control over where they fall; just stand opposite the direction you want it to go. Assuming the terrain doesn't roll the log, you're usually all set. As for death loops, here's a general point that will save you from lots of ambushes: STOP SPRINTING EVERYWHERE. If you're in hostile territory, slow down and keep your stamina high. The worst ambush happens when your stam bar is empty so let off the gas and walk a bit.
@SpazzyjonesGaming

@sociallyferal4237

You just having played it enough. 😋 For me I find they don't always go in the opposite direction from the cut, so I try to leave enough stamina for after the final blow doing a little jump into the tree to 'push' it in the direction I want it to fall. Angled trees not withstanding as they often are already falling by that point. So I like to plant my trees where I can cascade them easily and work around the grove pushing towards the centre. Saves some axe work.

If you corpserun from dethskito, you can trow down a fire place if one runs for you and bait them on it so they BURN (large one is more effective). If there is to much high lvl enemys to handle --) RUN FOREST RUN... but in zig zag so you dont get hit by a arrow or fireball. Also higher lvl armor also migrates damage from falling trees and poision. 1.st thing you should unlock is deer pick and dig a trench araund your base (start small for start). You can later expand once you get better tools. Instead of wooden walls, you can make mudwalls next to trench later (you can add wood walls and stone on top of them for decor later) Always carry portal mats when you explore. If you find yourself in nasty situation, place down a portal and run (also.. be sure you have un-named portal in main base for this) It also helps you from moving gathered materials directly into main base and saves boat travel time (wich could end up in seperent attack). Trolls + fire arrows = laugh
@SpazzyjonesGaming
@SpazzyjonesGaming Ай бұрын
Great tips! You're not the first to mention the tree damage not being pure so I believe i have made a mistake with that. The poison/fire is different though I believe. My understanding is that say a blob hits you with a poison attack that deals 20 damage without armor, rather than do 20 dmg right away it does 10 tick of 2. If you then wear iron armor it then may reduce it to 10 damage dealing 1 tick over 10 seconds. But if you take the damage and then retroactively put the armor on, the ticks won't be reduced since the armor wasn't on for the initial hit. Wow! Word vomit there. I hope that makes sense.

While it leads to lots of wasted potion use (in my experience): have healing meads on your hotbar for quick access. Less cheat-y than the logout trick is to go through dungeon entrances or portals while on fire or poisoned (particularly poisoned as it lasts much longer). The countdown continues but the damage ticks don't occur while the transition is happening which means the total damage taken is reduced and you just might live!

I always wanted to avoid dying and then I ended up playing everything as safe as possible, ran away from every slightly tough fight etc. Then I realized Its not fun anymore, I just get stuff around my meadows base, place portals everywhere and avoid every danger. Its not that fun anymore. I die from time to time and usually Its fun, then running for your stuff and having insane experiences, running away from trolls or stone golems :D makes the game a bit more fun. But Im still careful, It can get cruel or annoying when you cant get your stuff and you die everytime you get close to your stuff.

Preparation and planning, never go out half cocked, slow and steady wins the race. Never turn your back on an enemy, you can't block running away. Repair your gear, restock the arrow supply or bombs, have meads and health potions and the gear and weapons for that biome. Upgrade your gear when they become available, learn to perry it's a life saver as well as dodging which I don't do enough of. Lol

Bull$hit, the never turn your back to your enemy part, the rest is good. Blocking takes a lot of stamina, sometimes it's just better to turn your back, run, roll and recover your stamina. Don't forget to sheath your weapon and shield while doing it as they drastically decrease your movement speed. And this is even better if you're wearing light armor which beats heavy armor in most scenarios. Choose when to block and parry, and keep in mind dodging (rolling) is way easier and safer than parrying, parrying is an offensive skill, not defensive.

A tip for getting your stuff back is to eat 2 big stamina foods and one big health food with some stamina, then make the RUN OF YOUR LIFE. GET YOUR STUFF. RUN BACK. Works every time as mobs can't keep up with you running around naked with a TON of stamina. Stamina regen meads also come in clutch, add magic for a protection bubble while you run.

Logging out to remove poison does seem like a cheat to me but it comes with a downside as it also removes your rested buff. Even though blobs are weak to blunt damage I like to take them out with a knife. I dodge roll backwards then use the knife secondary attack to close the gap and take a stab. Perhaps it is because of the s but the blobs attack looks like an aoe but as long as you roll you can stand in the cloud after the initial dodge and not get poisoned. I'm definitely going to have to try that dodge roll towards them now though. Thanks for that! Also I swear the game keeps track of your rested buff and tosses some extra mobs your way when you do not have it.
@SpazzyjonesGaming

The blobs do have an instant area of effect attack mate, trolls do too, dodge still works on it as long as you time it well. Rolling into them could get you hurt though as long as you got more than 1 blob, as the second one would hit you.

Early game sneak everywhere. Literally do not leave sneak. This lets you get close to deer and birds more easily which are invaluable early game, birds are good all the way to Mistlands IIRC. Then you just snowball from there, continuing to sneak. Get the daggers and sneak up to trolls and you can Backstab farm them. Your first landing in the Swamp with a leveled up Sneak is way different than without, same with Plains. Everything and their mommy attacks you the moment you step foot there unless you have good Sneak. Sneak is also really good for setting up camps when you land. Just carry the wood on you to build a shack big enough for a bed, then get the rest of the materials during the day time. You aren't chopping trees or mining so you aren't alerting the entire island.

That's the $tupidest thing I ever heard.. Literally do not leave sneak... Best way to take 1000 years to finish the meadows. Just sneak when you're a bit behind the creatures, and use a dagger or spear for easy sneak kills. Bows from distance even easier. You literally don't need to sneak ever to avoid combat, you can just run away. And sneaking is pointless if there aren't mobs around to sneak past them and level up sneaking.

My first foray into the mistlands was entirely peaceful right up until the point I found my first infested mine. 4 regular seekers, a 1 star seeker, and a wandering gjall came at me the exact second I got close to it. The fighting drew in more wandering seekers. Then the other player and I got caught in the worst death loop I have ever experienced. It got so bad I was considering posting on reddit asking for some other viking to come and bail us out. Eventually, after many, many recoveries and deaths, we finally our gear closer to the edge of the mistlands, and I was able to sneak in, get my stuff back, and cover my friend while he got his stuff out, then we hightailed it out and questioned whether or not we wanted to continue progressing. We did stick with it, and subsequent runs were considerably less unlucky, but that was one hell of a first introduction.
