Tip for getting more armor in Valheim without having to constantly explore more to find swamps--The item you get from the swamp boss does not only work in the mountains to find silver. Equip it in the swamps to find buried iron scrap piles.

@kettch7779 ай бұрын
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Nope! One of those things that just isn't well known. It takes more work, but you can double the total amount of iron a swamp region provides before it's exhausted. Another tip: Copper bearing ore boulders are usually separated by a relatively thin layer of earth and stone from a very large deposit further down. Once you have the initial boulder done, keep digging down!

It's quite easy to get troll armor before Bronze if you are reasonably adept at kiting. With Eikthyr's forsaken power kiting success can be increased, but there is also a creative way to use it to get trolls for their hides. Most Black forests border a mountain zone. I will run along the border of a mountain zone listening for wolves. When I hear them, I know they spawn close to the Black forest zone. I then go and find a troll and agro him to follow me to the border. I lead him into the mountain zone and listen for the wolf howls. Then I click the forsaken run buff and take him to the wolves. Watch your health, as you likely won't have frost protection yet, but the border is close, so hook up the troll and wolf and head back to the forest. The wolves will switch to the troll if you run around him. If unlucky the troll dispatches the wolf in one blow, but two wolves can decimate a troll (avoid trolls with bats!). Even if the troll survives, it will have lost a lot of health. I have even let the troll return, found another wolf and dragged the troll to him. It's fun, and I can start getting hide armor wearing rags. There are tricks to root armor as well. Abominations will chase you quite far, though they can also stop and return, so be patient. Build four campfires spread out on a grassy meadow that adjoins a swamp. Agro the abomination and kite him through the fires. I find it cuts the time to kill him way down. My latest save I discovered a surtling spawn with the fire jet in a pond of water. This meant that the surtlings would die as soon as they spawned. I then dragged an abomination over to the fire jet, and he was dead in under two minutes with no fight, only kiting in circles. It pays to think out of the box early game! The root helmet is super important for the Bonemass fight, and the root chest is super important in the plains. No more deathsquitos one shotting you with the root chest piece. After the swamp, I mix and match armors now.

Might be worth noting that the magic helm provides only 20% eitr vs the body and legs that give 40% eitr. If you're itching for a little extra def or you want more movement speed. You can swap out the help with a carapace helm or Fenrir helm. for only minimum mana reg loss. Also, if your going into the mountains and don't wanna make mead. You can potentially spot silver ore from the sides of mountains. After acquiring silver, I prefer to make a lox cape > a wolf cape. As acquiring a wolf trophy can be a pain. You noted the root torso, which is great, but the serpents shield also provides pierce resistance if you wanna go that route instead. It'll allow you to maximize blocking by allowing you to absorb more damage by having higher defense potentially. The resistance from the serpents shield AND the root armor DO stack. It's the only resistance in the game that does. So you could make pierce damage do virtually nothing if you combine the two. Only other thing I'll mention about armor, is if you plan on blocking, it isn't based on the weight of your armor, but rather the damage you take. This means that anything that reduces damage received (such as pierce resistance) can surpass even the heaviest of armors. However, do to heavy armors having higher defense respectfully, they're typically the best choice for blocking and parrying. This also means that on higher difficulties. Blocking and defense become steadily more and more useless, as enemies start dealing such an excess of damage, that even a character fully kitted out can't handle basic enemies in there respective area. (Which imo, should be something that is changed... like granting the player a passive poise increase on higher difficulties) Defense also reduces damage from elemental attacks as well. Be weary tho, DoT effects can stack. So standing in Yagluth's AoE and shaman fireballs, even with max def, will shred you.
@SpazzyjonesGaming10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful and informative response! I appreciate these so much as I find I always learn something from experienced Valheim players like yourself. Really cool point about the stacking pierce resistance with the serpent shield and harnesk. I didn't know that. The thing that keeps me from using that shield is the -15% movement speed. I can't stand being bogged down. That said, to your point about the Eitr Helm, you can easily swap that out for more something like the Fenris hood for a little speed boost. I feel your comment on DOT effects. I've found they are often how I die when I'm not paying enough attention. Anyhow, thanks for the comment! Hope to hear from you again in the future!

The Eitr-weave armor should on top of the faster Eitr regeneration add 100 base Eitr - so you are not completely useless anymore when your food buffs are running out. As food stats are running out so fast this tweak would make playing a mage a less tedious experience.

This video needs an updated version now with the ashlands biome. Both the root harnesk and the feather cape are weak vs. fire. I personally like to combine the mage and the carapace armor. You cant spam as much elemental magic with it and need to be more moderate, but you can be more dynamic and have a hybrid playstyle. When you get overwhelmed or run out of eitr, you can use blood magic for a bubble shield and then switch to melee weapons and shield to tank some hits and minimize the amout of enemies while your eitr recovers. Also use eitr potions with this setup. In critical situations you can pop the queens ability giving you faster eitr recovery. Give it a try :)

9:20 me and my brother through of this and we where on “HARD” mode when tried it, we made many tests in PVP, Weak enemies, Decent enemies “Plains” and finally tried it on the Mist Its not worth it, it doesn’t block off that much damage, infact its weak and inconsistent, and with the Seekers also doing some blunt damage that being they’re air attack and especially the Soldier Seeker it doing MOSTLY BLUNT Damage Reason why this doesn’t work well is the Chest piece has very little armor that the resistance itself doesn’t negate that much damage anymore, and the fact that there are other damage types you are opening yourself to when equipping it.

Armor in this game is cool and honestly, it feels rewarding when you get a full set of the new tier armor but I feel it needs more variety. They should also buff the troll armor, its not easy to kill enough trolls to max it and you'd be better off skipping it, the bonus is negligible and fun fact: you can trap a troll by digging a hole underneath it (you might not survive) and then just stay out of its sight and sneak around. If you're playing with other people you don't need armor until the Mountains probably. Weapons/shield and food will carry you until the Mountains. In Swamp you can avoid and parry/block everything until Bonemass. Bonemass gives that DR Eikthyr and that thing is busted if you know what you're doing, it's based on armor, but you don't need that much, you can stay in light armor and use the Bonemass power and be fine. Mountains introduces straight up tanks and very fast, numerous enemies. The Drakes do frost damage and you really don't wanna be blocking their attacks early on, they can easily get you locked down and have you killed by something else. Mountains will drain your stamina faster than you can blink your eyeballs. I would up my armor here until I get the Silver weapons. If your stealth is really good, you can stealth around the mountain tops, but if you mine anything it will draw monsters.

It's unfortunately that in real life, bronze is actually considered a higher quality metal than iron.
@SpazzyjonesGamingАй бұрын
is it really? I feel like I never actually knew that
@Dubster999023 күн бұрын
Indeed. The advent of iron in the iron age and later classical era was not because of it being better quality, but rather its availability. Bronze requires tin, something that had to be acquired through trade in most regions such as Cornwall, to the point that the metal received an almost legendary status. Iron was also more readily workable. Not until alloying in the later middle ages did the strength or iron (At this point referred to as steel) outperform bronze in Europe. The Vikings also did use a good chunk of charcoal in their ironworking as well, likely as a result of Vikings going as far as the Byzantine Empire for trade and coming across Damascus steel, though do not quote me on that one. Some exceptions did exist - the Romans fancied a particular iron ore mined north of the Alps in today's Austria and areas around there due to its surprising strength. From what I recall when reading up on it, this iron ore is thought to have contained larger trace amounts of manganese, a common alloying component in modern steel to improve its strength. The Romans did not know this of course - we only know this today because of geological analysis.

Root Harnesk is only worth it if the enemies you're fighting do pierce damage. In the mistlands there is a lot of pierce damage so i think its worth it. The mountains on the other hand? Not so much. @@SpazzyjonesGaming A chart your throw on screen for 3 seconds, especially when a lot of folks are watching on mobile, is not going to grab anyone's attention. :P As for the food, everything now is just bland, straight upgrades to one another. The original system was more nuanced. My favorite food as an example was honey; it was always in easy supply, gave +5 hp per tick, and was digested in 300s. It was my go-to for healing back up after a good fight. After it was changed, regen was slow on everything, everything took longer to digest, and most importantly, now everyone was eating the same foods. It made it a boring mechanic.
