I've cleaned a MAF. Once. It worked. I watched several videos on the subject (at least one of them may have been yours) before doing it, and knew not to touch the elements with anything except the spray, itself. It's almost startling how well just the stream of liquid gets the black deposits off of the elements without any kind of scrubbing.

Great instruction my friend. Have clean that sensor on my 09 Corolla a couple of times. Time to do it again my Corolla is about to hit 300,000 miles. If I were in a time crunch like him and I was the one driving the car I would use the fake sensor but if it were my 19 year old son taking the car to college I wouldn’t risk him having trouble with the car away from home due to that, would go Toyota only. It is a very sensitive part

We thought you were the one who always said OE only! Glad to know that in cases that makes sense to do aftermarket. I personally would go pull a part it if there was a yard local to me. I know for you that's not the case. That way you can get the best of both worlds. OEM and also these have a low failure rate so you can be assured it will live long in the place of its predecessor.

Good info. I've used steam vapor without issue to clean MAFs, but if I didn't have the tool I would use the CRC spray.

2003 Highlander. I noticed a cloudy film on the MAF air flow sensor after multiple sprayings with cleaner. I soaked a clean shop towel in cleaner and gentltly brushed the sensor and wire and sprayed again. The red sensor became clear and shiney. The P0165, P0170, and P0174 codes were cleared and have not come back.

I am going to share what works for me on my three cars. I have a small camel hair artist brush. I use this with rubbing alcohol very gently, flooding the area. Afterward I use a bit of canned Pressurized air. Then I gently dry area cleaned..gently about a foot or so away from wire. I am not telling you to clean your MAF sensor..only what works for me. I have done this on about six sensors and encountered no problems..maybe I am just lucky. 😊

It is very complicated car. Lexus LS will also have more problems than Corolla. Quality can mean both reliability and comfort/refinement. W221 interior doesn't feel "low quality" or cheap in any way. In fact it feels fantastically high quality. But if you mean quality as reliability then yes. Toyota/Lexus is better. But it can be even worse - BMW :D@@hokie9910

That's is NOT the hot wire for the MAF. That is the intake air temp wire. The wires for the MAF are inside the cut out on the side of the tube. Cleaning both are advised but people should be given accurate info. The diagram and wire pin out are in the factory repair manual. If customer is a DIYer he should order a denso and replace the aftermarket one when it arrives for longevity.

What was the brand name of the aftermarket sensor?
@LAactor Жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter the brand as long as it works. If you consider his supplier and select a store in his area and narrow to in stock item, it would be a blue streak electronics unit. Generally what you can get at your local O'Reilly is reliable enough because you have a store to warranty things out with.

Just for yuks, I'd try cleaning the MAF the right way and see if that fixes it. Maybe the Q-Tip shed a tiny cotton fiber or something and that is making a conductive path where there shouldn't be one. Of course, it may do no good, but I'd try it. If it works, you (or your customer) now have a spare. If it doesn't, it was going in the bin anyway. Of course, if they physically broke a wire or something, that definitely won't work, but you didn't see any broken wires. It is hard to see down inside to the other element. Maybe the customer broke something in there that we didn't see.

Go to your Toyota Highlander dealer. Go to parts department. Tell him what you want. He will pull on on computer an exploded view showing where located. He will even print out showing you. It would be thoughtful if you gave him a $1.00 tip for a shop coffee on you. Best to you.

@@williamoneal2763I know where it is located and I can see it, the issue is that it’s under the cowl against the firewall. Either you have to disassemble the cowl area from the top, or maybe there is a way to pull the entire air box which I tried but it won’t budge easily.

You know, I bet he left some lint from the qtip that nobody can see and these wires burn very hot so it shorted the wire internally through resistance. That or he put it in too quickly without letting it fully dry. Bulletproof tank for a kid learner. Small too so it helps them with parking and not being able to judge tight spaces well. Give em all the help they can get. The ZZ is forgiving with not being on time and sometimes happily working and still sludged up. Hopefully they will go with synthetic for the rest of the life of the car. I noticed you pull the label off of the Kirkland bottles now. Maybe twice? Did they send a letter saying you can't use their name? Or is KZbin being more strict on brand advertising now?

I have heard a story recently that a guy replaced something like that at AutoZone because the first one right out of the box was defective. So they immediately warrantied it. Then when it went bad again he went back years later to change it and they did not allow him and threatened to call the police and said never come back. It was a guy on KZbin and he was doing a video that was called how AutoZone rips you off. But you don't know the details. Just his story. Anyway in cases like that he should have done an immediate refund and repurchase. Walmart does the same with their batteries. One time replacement and that's it. I think the brake pads at AutoZone are unlimited but for $200 I'll just buy a good set that lasts long and might not need to buy it many times and be less than $200. They are TOO expensive now.
