You need to shove a soft rope in the spark plug hole, then roll the crank slowly by hand until the piston in that cylinder pushes the rope up against the bottom of the valve. Then you can change the spring without the valve dropping into the cylinder because the rope holds it

@northface484 they eventually did that and it should work. Several things can happen tho, air hose can disconnect, air pressure may not be high enough, if the valve pushes down just a touch the air pressure comes out the valve guide and valve can drop. Yes it can work but there's alot of negatives. Using a short rope and pushing it up against the valve will always hold and won't ever let the valve drop. Plus it takes less time. But both ways can work. I just choose the simple, can't fail method

@natec599 there's not a big gap between the top of the piston and bottom of the cylinder head when that cylinder is at top dead center. That's why you push the rope in then by hand rotate crank to push piston up to towards top dead center
