Just think. The greatest choir in the world is a bunch of twenty-year-olds. And think too what they show the world about the strengths and potential of South Africa. And don’t forget that even before Andre van der Merwe made this stunning arrangement, Jerusalema had become something close to the world’s anthem, not to mention a worldwide dance phenomenon of historic proportions. That is why I call it a choral tone poem. And he is a genius with layers of harmony, pacing, bringing his choristers to perfection. He has also built a culture of excellence for this choir that means that choir veterans are his allies in bringing new members along.
