This is true on an individual basis, but they also do something even bigger than that. They are creating the culture of South Africa. I have so much hope for South Africa right now. The government and all people should look to these beautiful young people for inspiration.

I feel like this choir is always beautiful, but all their songs lately have sounded the same. Like imagine listening to all these songs for an hour, crowds gonna be zzz. Aeolians actually have a very diverse selection of songs, and even competed against this choir in the world choir games and won. Aeolians have a very big sound, and personality. And if you think the studio version sound good, when you listen to them live, you will know what chorale is supposed to sound like.

@@sebastianenjcb193 The Aeolians are terrific, but SU still edges them out in Interkultur’s rankings, #1 to #3. In the real world, that is virtually a tie, but not grounds for saying that the Aeolians are better. Of course, we all have our opinions and we should all respect them. SU has also been so high in Interkultur for so long, and has such high respect from so many of substance in the international choral world, that that also buttresses SU’s standing. But any choir in the top ten is extraordinary. Another extraordinary fact is the large number of SA choirs in the top 100. The Land of Music moniker for SA is very richly deserved.

I've never watched/listened-to a video of this choir and not left happier from that time. Anyone who has ever sung in a choir knows the level of effort it takes to get this level of precision. That alone is worthy of great admiration, given the always beautiful results. But as others have noted, there's the added joy for the audience that it seems the choir members are also getting joy from all their efforts, no matter the hard work it took to get there.

@johannhammann894 Thanks for your comment. I do listen to Tuks Camerata and, yes, they are also excellent. I’m in a quandary because South Africa has so many excellent choirs that it’s difficult to say that this one or that one is the best. It seems that all of the colleges and universities have great choirs. Another favorite of mine is the Vox Chamber Choir Of Pretoria with conductor/composer Franco Prinsloo. The Drakensburg Boys Choir is super as is the Cape Town Youth Choir and Ndlovu Youth Choir. There are just so many. South Africa gives the world so much wonderful music.

There are so many layers of excellence to this choir, and to think that they come from a smaller, not-quite-first world and still-troubled country, just adds to the wonder of it all. First, this choir has an extraordinary culture of excellence where more senior members mentor younger ones remarkably well. (One reflection: Those kids have done their own choreography.) That culture also has a lot to do with the leadership and direction of Andre van der Merwe (voted world’s most inspirational choir director by Interkultur). But he is also one of the world’s best choral arrangers. Some of his arrangements are frankly beyond belief for what he can do with harmonies for example.
