Honestly, yes Devi is a bit cringe but she’s also realistic. The show just gives me a sense of reality and I personally love it. I just feel like she acts the way any normal teenager would to be honest

I'm late w this but just wanted to point out that losing bodily functions after trauma does actually happen, idk if it has a name in English but a friend of mine also couldn't walk for a while after a huge upset It's apparently called Conversion disorder

We watched the first series before Ginny and Georgia, Devi is an angel compared to how annoying Ginny was in season 1. I think we would have disliked Devi way less had we watched Ginny and Georgia first lol

As an Indian and a Hindu may I educate the rest This representation is deeply offensive to me, it's very very disturbing actually If u did this to any other religion/culture in the world, it will invariably end in violence These horrible people get away with it only because we are a peace-loving people.

I’m sorry you feel that way, I can’t comment much on how good the representation is because I don’t know enough about the culture. I do know though that it was written by Mindy Kaling, and is partly based on her own childhood, so there is that autobiographical aspect there but they’ve probably twisted it a bit to try and add the comedic effect😅

Dont worry. You will get no hate from us. I dont know what MKs actual experience was. A teenager of any origin growing up in the US may be shown desperate for sex/boyfriend (sorry, but western movies do portray teens as sex-crazed) But school going teens, esp girls, in my country arent usually that obsessed with it. Problem is, in the very first few moments, they have attached her desperation to her ethnicity & religion, rather than American upbringing. Its v v misleading. An Indian teen that desperate for attention will be considered weak-minded & characterless, period. Also, to ask a hindu deity for cheap thrills is downright offensive. The central deity seems to be a downloaded-off-Google-Images caricature of a Devi(Goddess). Personally, I've never seen any of our female deities look so ugly. There can be somewhat scary forms, but never ugly. Just had to put this out there. This does not represent Indian religious philosophy or culture in any way. All love, no hard feelings.
