@Anonymus X I have the theory that some people can’t tell the difference between a confident/dominant men and an abusive asshole. Guess what. I was in such a relationship ( excluding the ✨devil's tango✨thank God for that!!!!) AND I read this book after I broke up with the dude for the same reason, he was manipulative, too many egg shells and I had to stop talking with all of my male friends, once I did that he came down to female friends and then he taunted me for spending time with my sister and cat , can you imagine!!!???? xD. I was mindlessly reading this book because how it blew up and I was curious as to why, the scenes made me uncomfortable but I ignored them until a comment said the exact thing as above and since then I didn't touch this book. It shows how away from reality we act sometimes, it's really scary.

hardin is a WALKING red flag, and the fact that tessa didn’t dump him in the first movie is beyond me. ah, yes, because a boyfriend who never tells you anything but expects you to, who gets jealous when you speak in the direction of anyone of the opposite gender, who gets angry and physically violent and who literally scares you (and emotionally manipulates you) is SO romantic. but hey, why make this relationship healthy when we can spread that sweet sweet “drama” out like butter on a toast for 5 movies?

She's said her books are about a "realistic relationship" cause she "was tired of seeing stories that are like all perfect and rainbows". Whaaat. Every romance story out there has some conflict or problem, but not all problems consist of abuse. Her fans have also used this narrative of "we want to read about real people bc we aren't perfect and relationships aren't perfect, grow up"....... .....and then proceed to use "is fiction/entertainment" to defend the story 👁👄👁

This was the youtube video that first planted the seed in my mind that my girlfriend was toxic. She acted exactly like Hardin and her mother, her friend, and her siblings all told me that she was just afraid of losing me, yet she started fights with me all the time and made me feel as if I wasn’t good enough. Since the first time I watched this months ago, I have broken contact with her, and I don’t know if anyone realizes how hard it is. Imagine getting rid of the person who was basically your LIFE for years/months. You can’t stop thinking about them. Everything reminds you of them because they’ve infiltrated every bit of your life, and since THEY were the broken one to begin with, you end up looking like the bad guy for ending things. I am so incredibly grateful to my supportive friends who recognized her toxicity from the beginning and counseled me to stop talking to her.

Not to mention the idea of that and "fixing" a person needs to go away. Relationships built on that idea are not balanced or stable. Even when said person who needs "fixed" isn't a toxic or abusive person (say they just have different hobbies and habits than you that make it hard for you to connect and spend time together bcuz you don't enjoy those things) maybe find someone who fits you and your needs/interests better. Don't force someone else to give up their happiness for yours. Eventually in that type of relationship neither party will be happy anyway.

You can't write that type of story while still trying to go for the fluffy Disney elements and happy endings. I've seen a lot of writers/aspiring writers who just plainly like to explore problematic romance, I've read that it can even be therapeutic for people who have had experiences with that type of relationship, but this author in particular just seems to lack so much awareness when it comes to her own work.

the ranking is clear: 3. Edward, 2. Christian, 1. Harden. This is in terms on who's putting their girl through the ringer the most. Edward did some crazy shit but at least he was genuinely in love with Bella and wanted the best for her. He respected her decisions as long as they werent life threatening and he wouldve let her go if she ever asked him too. (Plus, in Eclipse the book, Edward was nailing the boyfriend role). Christian was a piece of work! he needed therapy and he treated Anna like she was replaceable for most of the trilogy, but the man turned it around towards the end there. You could see some form of growth after 3 movies (the books covered his development a little better though). Harden is straight up gaslighting Tessa for 3 movies! Reads about the trauma he has caused her and decides to tone it down by 10%. I think after some intense therapy, Christian wouldve been alright and he and Ana couldve lived a wonderful life. I don't think therapy is enough here. Harden seriously needs to leave Tessa alone. Get therapy, yes, but try again with another girl and a better temperament cause hes gone too far with Tess.

I have literally NEVER seen an on-screen "romance" as abusive as this while pretending to be ideal. It's marketed as like, "oh it's so human and they're just growing up, no big deal" but I just came out of a relationship with my own freakin' Hardin, and this video was so spot-on about the abuse that I could only laugh. These movies should burn in hell. Not only are they purposeless and plotless, but they're promoting idiocy and abuse. Wowww.
