@tid4182 ай бұрын
Outstanding! When you solicited comments on this upcoming test, I suggested that you make sure that you design the test so that the dust is suspended in air as it is drawn into the filter, the way it would be in an actual car. All the other tests I have seen on YT have just dropped the contaminants onto the filter surface, which is not at all representative of the challenges a filter will have to overcome in an actual vehicle. I am not sure if my suggestion played a role in your decision to do the test as you did, but either way, you did a fantastic job!

Love these videos. If I was an engineer, I’m looking for the best of the best no matter where it’s made, what’s it made of, or what it costs. We need more of this kind of content. The only thing I would recommend is that you do a recap summary of all the numbers at the end for each test and then maybe do a weighted score to determine which is the best balance of all these characteristics. Saves me from having to rewind to look at all the numbers again for each test. For example, if I want the best balance of filtration, and capacity and horsepower and I don’t want to worry about changing my filter, go with the Wix. If I’m one of those guys that is anal about maintenance and is willing to change an air filter at every oil change, then I’m not so much worried about capacity. I want superior filtration without sacrificing horsepower. (Actually, I’m cheap and I just blow out the filter with compressed air and change at about every two oil changes, but you get the idea.)

I would love to see you test the AEM Dryflow versus the old performance standby, the K&N. The K&N has long been the standard for anyone looking to upgrade, but the tests (with the flawed "drop the dirt on the filter" methodology) that have been published thus far (Project Farm and others) have shown it to not be so good. This is why I do not have a K&N in my beloved Mustangs. I have instead gone for the AEM Dryflow, a cleanable lifetime filter that does not need oiling, and that is supposed to filter much better than the K&N. I would love to know how it stacks up in your superior test method. Also, since the K&N and Dryflow are washable, I would also like to know how well they filter after repeated cleanings. Does the filtering ability decline as the cleaning process removes fibers (something that has been rumored with the K&N)? Incidentally, I believe AEM is owned by K&N, which makes it rather interesting. If I were AEM, I would be marketing my product as having much better protection than K&N while still producing great airflow... but they would not want to harm the sales of their best selling K&N brand!

I've bought 3 or 4 AEM dryflow cones in the past 2-3 months and their quality control is horrible. Creases and scratches along the filter media and loose rubber on the inside. I used a dryflow on my car the past 1000 or so miles and there is build up of fine dust on the rubber couplers. It's very fine almost like a powder, but I've never seen this with the OEM paper filter. I'm wondering if AEMs quality and filtering abilities have gone downhill since k&n bought them out. My girlfriend has an AFE pro dry s on her intake and when you hold it up to the light next to the AEM dryflow the AFE is noticeably more dense and there are no tiny pinholes in the media like with the dryflow. It seems to be a challenge to find a washable filter that filters as good as the OEM paper filters

My last car was a 1995 Sidekick, which I drove for 2 decades. The air filter, like some Suzuki parts are more expensive , about $40 CDN. So I resisted changing it. I learned from desert people to just take out the filter and blast it with compressed air and then check it with a trouble lamp., I do it every year. Half way through about a decade, it had well over 200,000 km on it, I gave in and bought a new filter. Now , with my Toyotas, I added some A/C filter wool just before the filter as rough first stage, and I intend the OEM filter to last for life. I do not drive in dusty areas or desert much. I do the same to the cabin air filter. If you are foolish (or rich) enough at the dealer to authorize cabin filter service, they will ding you for $60, 70 extra. In the old days , well before year 2000, there was no such thing as cabin filters, and I have not heard of anyone who died breathing unfiltered air. In the military maybe at war when they need their NBC filter (Nuke , bio and Chemical) To get more bucks, dealers are also paying more attention to the age of tires, brake fluid, trans fluids etc. The only one left out of the money tree were the mechanics.

For filtering performance, you really need a pulsing pressure/flow mimicking the actual air flow in an intake. There's some good info on why K&N cotton filters work better in practice than on static filtering tests due to this phenomenon. It would be interesting to see the filtering results under such conditions. If you plan to add premium filters to the test, then please look into how to mimic those characteristics.

Why stay away for the Ecoguard? Very good filtering performance, good power, and cheap. The only thing it didn't do well is dirt capacity.

With all these cars in my driveway, they get whatever is cheapest at Rock Auto during my annual stock-up buy of filters & windshield wipers. I change the air filters every 10k mile oil change. They're usually just $3-$4 each at Rock Auto

I honestly spend for the quality filters because of the gasket media rather than the filter media. Sometimes cheap ones have really wonky dimensions/density, ie. won't seal or air box tabs are a fight to get back in place.

Ive used the ecogard filter in my car for 2 years quite and it works fine. My MAF is always clean and my car's performance hasnt had any major problems. Quality is really good too. I use genuine oil filters for the engine, though.

You should do a collab with Motor Oil Geek ! Also test the Denso vs Toyota air filters.
