They're unique in kpop with their sounds, they are not the typical kpop girl group. Like you said they are in your face with their music and always experimenting. That's what makes them exciting and fun to listen to. Knowing the lyrics help. If you're not into electronics this probably isn't for you, they are an edm, hip hop. Try Red velvet bad boy or mamamoo starry night.

BLACKPINK's whole concept is that they combine the 'black' and 'pink' sides of K-Pop. Pink would be the stereotypical cheesy songs that girl groups especially are known for, whereas Black is their hip-hop and rap influence. Therefore, sometimes they'll do songs that either combine both sides or showcase either singularly (with As If It's Your Last and Stay being examples of their Pink side). By doing this they're trying to send a message that even though they have two badass rappers and are heavily influenced by hip-hop/rap, they're not afraid to embrace their girly side! DDU-DU DDU-DU's whole message is supposed to represent female empowerment to a certain extent. Jennie is portrayed as the Queen chess piece at the start (the most powerful chess piece). Lisa is shown in two different ways, as she's first shown surrounded by equations and as a business woman and then later shown surrounded by pink and stereotypical 'girly' things, therefore they're trying to send this message that they can be intelligent business women and still be girly, the two don't have to be separated. There's a shot where Rosé is shown to be looking up at herself almost on a pedestal or as a statue, once again implying how strong and powerful women are. Then Jisoo with the whole phone scene is meant to imply that idols (not just female idols) are brutally scrutinised in the media/social media but only when they do something wrong with the phones as guns representing how social media is used as a weapon. Therefore, it's kind of talking about the pressure that idols are under to be 'perfect'. I know this video was made ages ago but just thought I'd explain anyway in case you do see!

Mathew just to inform you, that they don’t control their videos their company YG does. To produce music in Korea you have to sign to a company and its tuff with training having to be skinny and always have clear skin and getting 0 hours of sleep. So people try not to criticize cause then it’s like “Omg they went through all that well, I don’t like the visuals they need to change that” not saying people never it’s just that training can put you through a ED depression etc and you just have to suck it up.

If you ever feel like doing another Kpop video, I'd strongly suggest Mamamoo. I'm not normally even a Kpop fan but I dicovered this group a couple of months ago and I'm obsessed. I'd suggest Egotistic, Wind Flower, Starry Night, and for a live sampling their cover of Tom Jones' Delilah (on a show called Immortal Songs). There's really so much more that I could recommend but this is a good sampling of some of their more recent stuff plus a great live performance. Honestly don't think there's a song you could really go wrong with.

Yes, I agree with you! Whistle is by far my favorite song from them and I listen to it and I can't get bored, it's chill, the beat is sick and the rap parts are so good. Also the transition between de rap and vocals is pretty good too. I got into Bp because of Whistle, I recommand you to read the english subs. My second are As if it's your last and Ddu du. I subscribed, I like how you pay attention to the song, beat, not just visuals. I'm really curious about your opinion on their other songs from the new album, "Really " and " Forever young ". Really comes immediately after As if and Ddu du.

I feel like you should listen to their "new" and first full album. They have lots of songs, the songs in "The Album" are 1. How you like that 2. Ice cream (Ft. Selena Gomez) 3. Pretty savage 4. Bet you wanna (Ft. Cardi B.) 5. Lovesick girls 6. Crazy over you 7. Love to hate me 8. You never know I think you would enjoy the album, some of the songs are suggestive and Pretty savage says the "B word" about 4 times so yeah.

Listen to seventeen, the self producing legends. They make their own songs, lyrics, and choreo. Jihoon or Woozi, composes most of their songs and all 13 of them take part of writing lyrics, and performance team does their choreo, soonyoung or well hoshi is the main choreo and does most of their choreos for them. And they're called seventeen because 13 members+ 3 units and 1 for carats, it used to mean 1 for team but it changed and that all equals seventeen.
