When my pump was replaced, we just hooked a hose up to the outside faucet that bypasses all the inside plumbing and let it run a couple hours until the water was clear.

Remember when replacing your well pump to put chlorine in the well and let it sit for 2 days. And then purge out the water with a hose until the water no longer smells like chlorine. Before letting it be used in your house. This will help you avoid issues when replacing your well pump.
@c-chris30652 жыл бұрын
This way is the best remove the water filter turn the pump on let run for fifteen minutes then stop do this about four hours until the water clear up then install the water filter .
@cornwasher Жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking also. Leave out the filter and run a hose or laundry tub faucet until the water is clear. Then install the filter element.....
@davidparker84755 ай бұрын
Great fyi. Conversely, wouldn't it make sense to flush the well via an exterior faucet that a hose would be attached? This specific outlet is cold water only and usually wouldn't be filtered (on the filtered whole house line/source).

I'd be a little concerned that thick sediment at the base of the well might have killed your old pump. Does the pump sit in some kind of sock to prevent it from drawing up debris? You could scope out the amp draw on your pump to be sure it is not working too hard.
@proclaimliberty20003 жыл бұрын
The pump has a built in screen. The pump motor worked fine but the top connection fitting cracked and was loosing water at the crack.
@scottfurlong54752 жыл бұрын
The screen on these pumps are not fine enough to stop sediment but they are generally hung 10 to 20 feet from the bottom of the well thereby allowing debris to build up for years and years without affecting the pump itself.
@geraldreeves92642 жыл бұрын
A more economical way would be to utilize a pleated filter until the water clears up. A pleated filter cheaper and is only designed for sediment removal.

Any 10-in sediment filter will work, does not have to be that one. In fact that looks like it's a filter housing from rainfresh and I find them more trouble than they're worth. A simple 10-in housing with a 5 micron filter is good. You can start off with 20 Micron filters and then reduce to attend Micron and then finish off with a 5 micron and use that as your final filter spec. Rain fresh filters tend to have a completely closed bottom and people more often than not install them upside down and then get into trouble trying to remove them. Spun polypropylene filters tend to flow a little better and last a little longer. The rainfresh filters look like compressed styrofoam and plug pretty quickly in the same conditions as a spun polypropylene filter.

You are correct, assuming that you are suggesting removal of the bottom or clear half of the filter housing and filter and then running the pump until clear water comes out. You have to have a 5 gallon pail or bucket to catch the water and be able to shut the pump off when the pails or buckets are full so that they can be emptied. A better way would be to drill and tap the bottom of the clear housing with a pipe thread and adapters so that a garden hose could be hooked to the bottom of the clear filter housing so the pump could run and not over heat with stops and starts. If you cannot drill and tap the housing yourself any machine shop could do this for you. I had to do this with city water in Onalaska, Wis. for years because the city decided my taxes were better spent on bicycle trails than providing clean water!!
