+proclaimliberty2000 - Dang, you are too late. Spent $460 bucks for the Airbag spiral cable in the steering wheel. Not to mention the replacement of the water pump, power steering rack, belts, fluids, etc. at a cost of $2315 bucks. Your video saved me $150, and I'm really appreciative of that. I can't believe the prices dealer shops charge nowadays.

In 7 years and to see the differences in given jobs, its amazing. Especially when seeing the older videos stuck in the time of believing in anti seize being needed to knowing what spark plug manufacturers say today about the use of that product on their plugs. Unfortunately many out there still believe in the need of anti seize, its a great product but not on spark plugs.

Thank you very much for providing this video. I just changed my spark plugs on my 05 Camry. May God bless you, too !
@proclaimliberty200010 жыл бұрын
That is a really good question. As spark plug wires age, the spark plug electrode will receive less voltage which can cause unburned fuel which can cause engine knock, poorer performance and poorer gas mileage. I'm not a certified mechanic so I would call a Toyota dealer or a trusted mechanic and see what they say. I do know alot of people replace their plug wires when they replace their spark plugs because they want optimum performance.
@KK-yu6cz8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking your time to put the video. This helped very much. It was pretty straightforward and just too me less than 30 minutes to get the job done for all the 4 spark plugs. One tip I have though is that you don't have to necessarily remove the electrical connections out of the sparkplug socket holders. You can keep the electrical connections in tact and directly pull off the socket holder out of the engine. One less thing to worry about that way.

Yes it did help! I will be helping my brother perform this on his 02 Camry, seeing this makes a lot easier coming from a Prius owner, there are more steps on the prius because it's such a small space that more things need to be removed and set aside (ex. the Relay box) but overall it's pretty easy on both vehicles. Great video! Another good thing to mention is that, depending on which spark plug you use, it usually doesn't require changing the gap (looks like you already mentioned this in a comment). The plugs which fit my 2003 Camry and are recommended in the owner's manual are the Denso SK20R11 and NGK IFR6T-11 (which replaced the previous model that was mentioned in the manual, I forget). Neither require changing the gap. The manufacturer of the plugs should also designate the proper amount of torque for installing the plugs (around 13 ft-lbs for Denso and NGK) which people should use to avoid damaging any components. This requires a torque wrench that can provide the proper amount of torque, of course.

I changed mine, took 50 minutes. Things that went wrong: 1) When removing the electrical connector, the small black tab broke off on all four connectors and I could not figure out how to make them fit properly upon reassembly. 2) In spite of using a torque wrench set to 15 ft.lbs, one of the 10mm bolts which serve to hold down the "boot" assembly on the spark plug snapped. Since the boot is a firm friction fit on the spk plug, I hope this will be a non issue.

Awesome video! Will be doing this today. Do you happen to know what could cause the car to burn oil? I had an oil change on my camry about 3k miles ago. I checked the oil dipstick and it was completely dry. Any thoughts?
@proclaimliberty20008 жыл бұрын
When an engine burns oil it usually means oil is getting past the piston rings. How many miles does the engine have on it? Has it had regular motor oil or 100 percent synthetic? How often did you change the oil? Do you live in a climate that is extremely cold in the winter time?
@rayguns2238 жыл бұрын
+proclaimliberty2000 it has around 160k miles. Oil changed regularly. I have been using Castrol High Mileage and I live in relatively hot weather.
@proclaimliberty20008 жыл бұрын
The only thing that comes to my mind is I read somewhere that some of these engines did have problems using more oil than normal. My engine has 191K now and burns very little oil but I have always used 100 percent synthetic Amsoil Signature Series which is good for 25K between oil changes. In the long run it's actually cheaper than using conventional oil. I started using 100 percent synthetic when I read years ago that it was the only kind of oil used in jet engines because it last alot longer, causes less wear, cools better and doesn't break down from heat like conventional oil. The microscopic particles of synthetic are ALL spherical instead of gravilly shaped like conventional oil. Wish I had a better answer for you.

@proclaimliberty2000 Жыл бұрын
First off I will tell you that spark plugs have been known to break off in the engine block. Ford’s are notorious for this. Never attempt to remove a spark plug unless the engine is cold to the touch. You also need to use a breaker bar so that you can get some leverage on it. You could also spray some PB Blaster down inside by the threads and let it sit for an hour before attempting to remove the spark plug. Before installing the new spark plugs, put just a little anti-seize lubricant on the spark plug threads. If your spark plug does break off in the engine block, then contact me back.

You do not need to disconnect the battery. The colder the outside air temperature, the quicker the engine will cool down. If you were in a time crunch you could always cool it down fast by blowing air on the engine with a box fan.
