This is gold. As a mix engineer, in the name of making it sound as good as it can be, I'm trying to understand if I 'should' add these mastering-type processes on the mix bus at mix stage... If I trust my ear, would you ever recommend adding this at mix stage i.e. BEFORE mix bus comp? (Of course adding it AFTER mix bus compression would effectively cross over into mastering territory, assuming the mix bus limiter was deactivated). Thanks bud.

Hey Nicholas, this is a fantastic video. I was listening it in the Apple's earbuds initially (sorry:). When you tweaked Michelangelo EQ, the top end in the earbuds got pleasantly soft. Then I listened it again through the speakers... and it's quite amazing how the low end and the top end sound. I'm goin to try this plugin with the vocals. Yo brother. Great work man. Have one question though. If there is a case in which you have to apply all of these techniques, do you put like 3 different eqs on the master Chanel or it doesn’t rally happen that you need to apply them all in the same project? Anyway I was always thinking whether I can put more than one type of eq on master or just stick to one and do all the cuts and boosts using only one?

20:39 How exactly does it work that Pro-Q3 can remain in Linear Phase mode while also being Dynamic? Doesn't that completely mess up the phase calculations since the amount of phase shift to compensate for is constantly changing?
@panorama_mastering11 ай бұрын
The shift of an impulse response to keep the EQ in phase at this small of a chance is so minute you wouldn't hear it.

I think you have to be careful expanding low end in a dance track, where the upper kick transient happens in time is where the bass is ducking - you can undo that pumping low end. When the kick is starting bloom out from its initial transient there will be bass at the start of its ramping up from the sidechain, if ur expanding at that moment u *could be undoing this.

Awesome video ! I have a quick question about M/S dynamic EQing in ProQ (which I do not own, hence asking), is it really linear phase ? Because if so, ProQ is a rare beast as TDR Nova does not have linear phase option and Vojtech from Melda says it's really hard to implement linear phase for dynamic EQing.

Idk, when I try that Clarity module in my mixes it sounds very processed and artificial even at low % values. It takes away natural high mids and highs breathing/dynamics and introduces kinda phasey-like sound there that's a bit fatiguing to listen to. I'd rather try to use static eq and a high freq limiter (like the one built in TDR Limiter 6GE) instead or/and soothe (when there's bigger problem). Otherwise nice vid and I liked the low end sustain cut trick!

Sounds thin, smeared and harsh on my phone. Had me second guessing my phones response etc until I pulled up Hannes Bieger house tracks and other good references to compare and then i realised the issue is definitely the track and not my phone. Would be really interesting to hear these techniques applied to a track without so many issues, or in a way that fixes the issues rather than everything sounding smeared. I think referencing whilst executing these techniques would have gone a long way towards improving the end result.
