I'm a German diesel fanatic. In North America, that's sadly a lonely thing, as relatively few diesel models have ever been sold here. Europe, however, is diesel paradise! I'm surprised that Scotty is surprised at how zippy and quick the TDI Golf is. There still seems to be a reputation outside of Europe that diesels are slow. Those days are long gone. And this car is a relative performance lightweight compared to many I4, I6, V6, and V8 diesel options in Europe from VW Group, Mercedes, BMW, etc.

Dealer Schmealer, I have a 2006 Acura TL, Grandma car, well maintained, Changed the timing belt, idler and water pump (kit cost 240, highest quality non OEM parts I could find) and the labor was 200.00 at a local shop. No problemo. Why people pay huge money for loosening a few bolts, paying attention to what you're doing (and the cam/piston alignment) is beyond me. I have a local shop I trust to do everything, great friends with the owner (MERIDA , Garland TX) Mario, as honest and friendly as the day is long (like yourself). I had him replace all four struts in, front and back, told him to get the best parts he could, about 1100.00 bucks, total. Its like a new car. I like the fact the electronics don't go out and it is a luxury car I intend on driving up to 400.000 miles, comfortably It is as good as a BMW in cornering and acceleration, if I need it. People spend too much on cars to impress others I guess. Its just a way to get around. Next up some new Rotors and Akebo pads, why not?

I bought a 2014 TDI Jetta and it is by far the best car I've ever owned. It's VWs newest "clean air" diesel and yes... it has THREE egr's and the one under the motor runs hot and the CEL is on alot of the time. But I don't care really because this model TDI has the world's record in fuel consumption. The 2014 Jetta TDI made it from coast to coast in the USA on ONE TANK OF DIESEL FUEL. It's my belief that this was the real reason for dieselgate.
@LCdic094 ай бұрын
Probably because the local US manufacturers didn't have a car that could compare and they where trying to push the EV cars, something that would never happen with those diesel cars in the market to compete.

As an old subscriber living in Europe who owns a VW jetta mk5 with 1.9 TDI 105 hp BKC engine, watching this videos got me relieved since you always complain about Volkswagens. but i guess this is particular to the North American market since VWs here are so popular especially in Germany and France. Although the only drawback is the engine oil consumption since I have to top off the oil with 0.5 liters every 2000 kilometers m / 1240 miles. But i guess this is a common issue in all VWs.

@sturmantheyounger9 ай бұрын
B- maybe a C+ on this review. This is a modern Diesel. It may not have a DEF system but it does have a DPF which is prone to failure around 130k miles and especially if you use the wrong oil. Also the early MK6 Jetta and Golfs have major issues with their High Pressure Fuel Pump. Pretty much a catastrophic failure of that happens on your car. Also the slave cylinder for this 02Q transmission has a terrible history. To make it worse, the slave cylinder is in the bell housing so you have to drop the trans to replace it. Still a great vehicle especially with a tune.

Pretty sure you had to take the reprogramming to get paid the restitution from vw, and keep warranty. You can always program it back to pre diesel gate. In eu it would cost 300-500 to program it, it could be cheaper if you just slap the original map into it Tbf the car won't polute all that much more in diesel gate programing, it was mostly about dodging polution taxes. Any car that's over 2.5l petrol will polute more.

@J0hnny8ravo9 ай бұрын
From what I understand, the trick was they used 2 sets of mapping in the ECU: one for actually driving the car (wheels moving) giving you more power and consequently more emissions and one mapping when accelerating while the car was still (wheels not moving) in which the power was lower but the emissions were lower too. So maybe the updated software after the Dieselgate reduced the power to lower the emissions. So the underpowered engine consumes more fuel to keep the car moving. It’s counterintuitive somehow if you think that usually more fuel burnt equals more emissions.
