im still using my teac ud 501 after 10 years as my PC stereo dac. aside from a few of the lights in the screen being wonky it works great and still has by far the best sound profile ive found. always wanted to try out one of their amps or integrated amps but just dont need to replace my emotiva quite yet. always loved the brand though, just a nice classic look and well made. and it is by far my cats favorite heated seat where he sits and watches me work most of the day.

I agree about being glad Teac is back, had a good solid CD player of their's 20 or so years ago. I see they still have a good looking one today for $350 on Amazon. I also saw that Dayton Audio has a new high powered amp for $899, the A400 with 200 Watts. No one I can see has done a review on it on KZbin. Would you consider doing one?

Teac has been around and it's a shame no one knows. I purchased a PD-301 in 2018 and the AI-301 was cheaper than the player and would be interesting how it compares to the 303. However I got the PD-301 because of the DAC (Burr Brown) in the player and when I watched your video on the Sony DVD player several month's ago with the digital output I couldn't help but think about the PD-301. I am still old school and everything I have is analog aside from the computers (hence the purchase of the PD-301). I did purchase a Geshelli Labs J2 for my workbench computer (Linux OS) after watching your video's however it had a few problems and moved it to the radio room (Windoze OS) and it works flawlessly. Ended up with an SMSL SU-1 on the Linux machine and was totally plug and play. I enjoy watching your Videos and glad to see someone put up one on Teac for a change. Teac has not gone anywhere that I know of but they just kind of faded away here stateside after the end of the reel to reel revolution (introduction of the CD Player in the early 80's) Still have a Technics RS-1500US and a Pioneer RT-2044 and will never part with them. By the way the wife loves the Fosi V3 and Micca RB42's you suggested in the living room as they complement the PD-301. Thanks for the good work and again I enjoy the video's.

Great to see them back! I had a TEAC two channel integrated and 5 disc CD changer that was gifted to me in high school. LOVED that set up! This piece looks really nice but considering what’s out in the market and their value, I can’t see this retailing for more than $499 maybe $599. For $999 it must have a chunky power supply (toroidal), big caps, and a decent DAC with a sub out. This can’t be $999. So cool though.

it's not about how much power the amp could put out in an average size room as much as it is about how well the amp can support a variety of reactive loads... the power supply and amp design, it's ability to cleanly keep up with speaker current demands, and quality components and construction are all more important than efficiency due to class of operation.. some 100w amps are crap, and some 25w amplifiers are great.

Thanks Young Randolph, another good, informative review. It's good to see a review that doesn't demand we buy muscle amplifiers to power our speakers, but that rather concentrates on the sound - which is what it's really all about. I'd be interested to see how this little amp handles other speakers as well - like Klipsch etc. Good job!

Wow! I have very fond memories of my uncle's TEAC equipment. I'm X-gen, and his era was WWII big band. I think he bought his reel-to-reel in the '60s; could have been the '50s. My aunt (his wife, and his age) and I listened to crystal clear Beatles long before CDs. It was awesome! I'm less happy about the price, but if this is anything like the stuff they made back then, wow!

I looked at these rebooted TEACs a couple of years ago, but it wasn’t in the budget. I’m not surprised to know that this model is the business - TEAC always made good gear. I recently purchased a DAC/Preamp and a Power Amp from the TEAC 505 series, the "bigger siblings" of the 300 series. Partly because I have an 301 CD Player, which I really like, partly out of a kind of curiosity, because TEAC is an established brand and you didn't hear much of them lately. The sound quality is superb. Randy, I think its definitely worth digging a little deeper into their current products and do some more reviews.

Super cool. You need a lot of "power" to drive the LS50 which often times isn't the same as the watt rating on the amplifier. I'm currently running LS50s on a 10 watt class A amp, it sounds great and frankly there is more power on tap the KEFs can handle if I were to push it.

4 months I bought the Teac PD- 301 DAB-X CD Player to hook it up to my sonus faber omnia. Connected via chord company interconnectors so everything was purchased 30-50% lower than retail price but brand new. The sound produced is astounding. Much better than so many other more conventional setups I tried when trialling different systems. Comes with the BurrBrown DAC and by luck the combination is amazing, especially for the elongated rectangular room I have. The sonus faber omnia projects the sound across the room so much better than some of the lovely standmounts I tried through B&W. Am sure there are always technilly better setups but for my space this was immense.

You put me on a head trip. I want the TEAC. Already bought and sorry re: the vertical NAD. for my bedroom micro system purchased late NOV 2023. First reason not quite aware of specs with do not need it's phono input of the newer model which replaced the USB in (to be used with digital out of USB-C, on my Fiio DAP ). Also, the NAD has 'fiddly' lighted touch symbols on top. That is what I get from not being able to see these in person in retail. Not only $ issue (this month on Nikon mirrorless and lenses), i am not good at selling (where to trade?) and have some excess gear stuffed into my limited closet space.

I had a Teac tape deck along with the little 6 in 4 out mixer they sold. The Teac deck was more dependable than my Revox and sounded pretty descent. Love the KEFs at reasonable volumn levels. Image fine, easy-to-use and the sound is coherent. At higher levels, a strong high current helps but they sound a bit strained when peaks on my cheap meter exceed 85db. About the "watts" a number without specifics means nothing. Is the number quoted at 8 ohms say only 1000hz and what is the distortion? How about 4 ohms??? What the power band power ...20- 20000 at say .1% or even 0.5% IM and harmonic distortion? What about 2 ohms? I have a commercial Crown, Class D power amp that claims to be 650 watts per channel into 4 ohms. I've never been able to figure out how they got than number. It sounds fine and drives every speaker I have (5 pair) to ear splitting levels and only the 1st set of level lights light up. Fine but what is the real power available? Probably... 150 per channel at 8 ohms and maybe 300 into 4. I expect that 650 per channe number is really a peak value. I like the amp but would like to know the number measured in an old school way. Then there is the issue how the amp behaves into a reactive load and not a resistor....and on and on.... so the matter of a Power amps real power is not so simple. (I do have a totally rebuilt old school dual mono power amp that weights nearly 50 pound and recently tested at 150 watts, 20-20000 into 8 ohms at 0.2% distortion. Power easily doubled into 4 ohms. Still i like the sound of my much newer Crown better . Both can destroy your hearing.

Good video! Thanks! By the way: do you know or have you listened the Yamaha WXA-50? It’s a small amplifier with a streamer (Musicast) and it’s been around for at least 5 years.

I have both a pair of LS50 Metas and a TEAC AI-303; this is completely the wrong amp for the speakers. My LS50s are powered by a NAD M10 while my AI-303 power my desktop set up with Kanto Yu 4 passive.

I have been aware of these new Teacs and come to the conclusion that they are targeting a more upscale clientele based upon the associated equipment in their advertisements. I am assuming that these Teacs are quality products designed for buyers who are not worried about a thousand dollars.

I'm the person who mentioned that LS50's are best used in a nearfield setup on your IG. I feel proud that I may have inspired the guy on the phone over such an innocuous comment lol. I don't even like KEF hahah. BTW, Magnepan has even more ardent defenders/apologists than the LS50s. If you think people put strict requirements on amplification and room/placement for the LS50's then you have never spoken to a Maggie fan :-). I think it's weird that you had a poor experience with the original LS50's and didn't just say, "Oh well, this is just not for me". But instead you were so disillusioned with them that you started your own channel to set everyone else straight because everyone else who likes them is on crazy pills? Again, I also don't really care for those speakers, but I don't feel the need to talk down on fans of them for suggesting that you may not have had adequate amplification or expectations for your room. Those speakers are hard to drive, they dip under 4 ohms and are 85 dB, which is documented by measurements. It's not insane to suggest you need good power behind them.

No, they are using an amp module from Hypex (NC52MP) that is rated for 25 watts into 8 ohms. Most people will never need more than that to drive real world speakers in the average room.

I feel that if amp pairing is so critital.with a speaker then the manufacturer should point you in the right direction. For example rock pop ect ABC amp is recommended. For classical ABC amp is recommended. This is an expensive hobby and I think people would appreciate that more than spending thousands on amps that don't pair well with speakers. Or just make a speaker that plays nice with all amps 🤔. I agree they image well but I would argue that my emotivas image better with a deeper Soundstage if I'm being honest. But to eachs own I guess .

Way over priced for that TEAC for what you’re getting. I’ll take my little class D integrated RSL amp with a 90 Hz high-pass filter and 55 watts per channel for $110 bucks a million times over this over priced unit
