@@randomeverythingboy Yes it won't have direct impact, but as louis rossman says it's not just right to repair that's going to fix all the problems it's the consumers who will make a change. If parts are available more easily then more people would be intrested in fixing their devices or getting them fixed as repair costs and time will be lower. Once that happens people when buying a new product will consider reparability too which will slowly force companies to make their products more repairable. It's a chain of events and right to repair is first step towards it.
@3Clod
@3Clod 2 жыл бұрын
fact is the technology involved is very delicate there and the device needs to be secured from curious customers who would damage it and then just trash it (thus dealing even more pollution) or complain the product is crap because it didn't whitstand the blows of their jackhammer. Apple's policy has always been dedicated to protecting their product knowing the average consumer can't be trusted, so if anything doesn't work it's due to their engineers and they can control the evolution in a more efficient way. I tried to change a battery from one ipad once, following a thorough tutorial and was very careful yet... the wifi didn't work anymore. I'm sure I didn't touch anything wrong and yet the device was suddenly trash.

@@3Clod sure, not all end users are as expert as hugh, but rpair shops are. And if I buy something its my right to do what I want to do to it. I'm not fucking renting it from a company who tells me not to repair it, save some money and maybe save a machine from being e waste. Apple harp on about their environmental credentials but make it impossible for expert third party repair, they literally refuse to provide componants so repair shops can't fix problems even though they know how to do so. Its so shady.

Wow, you are keen. In stripping the old case I was waiting for the battery to catch fire, especially after you folded up one corner 5:18 I wonder if the glue under the login board is to improve thermal conduction to the case. Also, I wonder if all that glue under the speaker is to.. A/ avoid rattles & buzzes, & B/ stiffening for better sound.

Hello Hugh. Nice job as always and a pleasure to watch. As I said before.. use heat to soften the adhesive. You could heat the case from behind to release the board, battery and other components since you where going to replace the case. Use heat. please !!!

The glue on the speaker assembly probably helps to make better contact with the case which is used as part of the speaker. Not fleeing the speaker assembly down should result in worse sound quality, it would be interesting to hear a direct comparison.

What a nightmare Hugh! I think that Apple's penchant for making their devices almost impossible for third party repairers to fix is borderline criminal, "You can buy our expensive device but we control how you get it fixed"....How do they get away with it?

A few things, 1. you could probably repair the smart connector, might be a bit shoddy but worth a shot IMO. 2. don't be afraid to heat the battery up, you can also use a paint scraper, or a thing metal spatula to cut the adhesive, it's done frequently and has been discussed 1000 times, it works, i would use an iflex. 3. you're missing a plastic spacer for the home button. I would've super glued the metal disc. When I do home button's on ipad I also apply a bead of B7000 around the bracket, helps keep it in after heavy use (read: kids) 4. the magnets, you could've sacrificed the original casing by deforming it and you would've been able to remove all the magnets, as well as extreme heat, like 150-250C. 5. the adhesive on the wifi cables is a TERRIBLE idea, if it ever gets opened up again it's a mess, especially when it wasn't there to begin width and hasn't been standard since the ipad 2. 6. electrical tape looks weird, Kapton tape would be an appropriate solution. 7. There is a 3M brand adhesion promoter people use for a really good seal, while no necessary for the frame, i would advise to use it for the home button bracket, and switch to the tesa black adhesive, instead of the red, it's thinner and holds on a bit better.
