@@lukewatson059 Yes it won't have direct impact, but as louis rossman says it's not just right to repair that's going to fix all the problems it's the consumers who will make a change. If parts are available more easily then more people would be intrested in fixing their devices or getting them fixed as repair costs and time will be lower. Once that happens people when buying a new product will consider reparability too which will slowly force companies to make their products more repairable. It's a chain of events and right to repair is first step towards it.

fact is the technology involved is very delicate there and the device needs to be secured from curious customers who would damage it and then just trash it (thus dealing even more pollution) or complain the product is crap because it didn't whitstand the blows of their jackhammer. Apple's policy has always been dedicated to protecting their product knowing the average consumer can't be trusted, so if anything doesn't work it's due to their engineers and they can control the evolution in a more efficient way. I tried to change a battery from one ipad once, following a thorough tutorial and was very careful yet... the wifi didn't work anymore. I'm sure I didn't touch anything wrong and yet the device was suddenly trash.

A few things, 1. you could probably repair the smart connector, might be a bit shoddy but worth a shot IMO. 2. don't be afraid to heat the battery up, you can also use a paint scraper, or a thing metal spatula to cut the adhesive, it's done frequently and has been discussed 1000 times, it works, i would use an iflex. 3. you're missing a plastic spacer for the home button. I would've super glued the metal disc. When I do home button's on ipad I also apply a bead of B7000 around the bracket, helps keep it in after heavy use (read: kids) 4. the magnets, you could've sacrificed the original casing by deforming it and you would've been able to remove all the magnets, as well as extreme heat, like 150-250C. 5. the adhesive on the wifi cables is a TERRIBLE idea, if it ever gets opened up again it's a mess, especially when it wasn't there to begin width and hasn't been standard since the ipad 2. 6. electrical tape looks weird, Kapton tape would be an appropriate solution. 7. There is a 3M brand adhesion promoter people use for a really good seal, while no necessary for the frame, i would advise to use it for the home button bracket, and switch to the tesa black adhesive, instead of the red, it's thinner and holds on a bit better.

@@iClone101 they should probably attach the display just as strong to the frame like battery to make it a bitch to get into :/

Damn at this point I would’ve kept everything inside the old casing and try to hammer it flat and nice The transplant with this one is too much to handle.

Putting the iPad on a heat mat helps soften the adhesive when removing parts, especially the battery. Makes it a lot easier.

I just finished one of these today took 25 minutes. Very easy repair. Heat it up with a hair dryer and the glue comes loose easy if you can touch it without burning your hands its not hot enough yet. The prying on the battery will shorten its life a lot. Poke a hole in it with a tool and it can catch fire. Ask me how I know with the burn scars to prove it. I do this everyday all day though. It’s better to go on eBay and buy a complete housing with all the small parts and pieces already installed. Switch the battery and the circuit board and put it back to together.

I really enjoy your videos. Your standards are just amazing and stand by similar ones when trying to repair my stuff. Every store I know will not take their time to use adhesive for displays, will miss you screws, and are overall mediocre.

It's amazing how this can be repaired so easily, but Apple would send the entire thing away. And with how small recycling rates actually are, it's better seeing repaired.

Heres a tip for the smart connector, for future repairs. Once you ensure all glue/adhesive is removed from the part, push on the contacts themselves the same way you removed the flash from the back of the iPad.

I have a first gen ipad pro, i've had it for around 7-8 years now. It has a lot of cosmetic damage on the outside but still works. The battery life is also shit so I'll have to get it replaced, otherwise the beast is still rocking on. Take care of your stuff people!!!

“Why did Apple glue these parts?” *proceeds to glue parts back in
@olivertabone67883 жыл бұрын
I’ve had to do the exact same procedure on a similar iPad before. I found a listing on eBay for the silver case connectors no problem but all the glue that that they use to hold everything in is just disgraceful, it just destroys all your tools and peels every bit of skin off of your fingers. Lesson learned - never touch iPads again
@Susceptive353 жыл бұрын
You should remove the battery more safely. Circuit cleaning spray or alcohol can be used for adhesives.
