Neverending rain and floods at the Zoo - Easter 2024

We have had an unprecedented amount of rain here in Northumberland and every day it just never seems to stop. This slows progress, stops building developments and soaks everywhere that isn't meant to be soaked.
But a HUGE thank you to all of our visitors over the Easter weekend and the holidays so far, it has still been a good half-term.

🌧 So disheartening for you all! Despite the weather you've still made great advances with the new enclosures and it's really exciting news to hear of new species. Looking forward to the opening of the tropical house. Love being a member & being able to pop in & out all the time. Every visit provides remarkable memories.

We came to Northumberland Zoo today for the first time. I think we left just before the bad weather hit. Thank you so much, we loved the zoo, it was fantastic. Can't wait to come back again soon

One thing about the British Isles - we always have a topic of conversation, the weather!!! Well done for all you've managed to do despite the almost non-stop rain. As long as the animals are safe, well and as happy as possible under the circumstances, you're doing a terrific job. I'll try to bring some sunshine when I next visit.....but we're in short supply in Devon too!!

Part of my retaining garden wall collapsed on my hubby’s birthday a month ago. It had stood resolute for over 70years!! It was a million panicked trips to B&Q (other hardware stores are available) in a frantic blind panic to save it! The rain is a total nightmare for everyone - when’s it going to *end* ?? 😫 Only your Otters can make whingeing sound cute! Afia is so gorgeous. Nothing stops those whistling parrots…love them.

Aw no what a nightmare! It is unbelievable just how much rain we have had. Just when it starts ‘drying up’ our hopes get smashed again. Hope you managed to save your retaining wall!

Wow - we don’t really get lots of snow here. We are only 4 miles from the Northumberland Coastline so snow never really sticks! Fingers crossed for changing weather soon! 🤞

The rain doesn't stop us even though it followed us to Peak Wildlife Park, Axe Valley Wildlife Park, Paignton Zoo and Wildwood (Kent) recently. Hope to get to you one day but it's a long way from Bristol.

Something to watch out for. The river may uproot the trees. The ground is very soft and the weight of the tree canopy may pull them down. I have had that happen in my yard.

We are sick of the rain over here in Lancashire to. Not to worry. We have booked to come 15th of this month. Travelodge booked and everything. We will be brining wellies just in case. keep up the good work

Best wishes, it’s rather dreary conditions. I can imagine that all of you have very serious rubber boots. The 3 otters chirping were really cute! Maybe they’re a bit lonely. USA : solar eclipse in 2 days, on Monday afternoon. How will animals react to sudden darkness around 3 pm ?

White-Faced Saki Monkeys were the only ones I didn't guess from the species moving into the tropical house 😂😊 Sorry to see the bad weather affecting the zoo grounds and the animals. I'm 100% positive you'll bounce back though! You've survived covid, multiple bouts of bad weather, a heap of bad luck and a grasshopper infestation, and you're still here and stronger than before! 😊(You being the zoo in this instance, not Maxine. I'd imagine a grasshopper infestation in a human would be absolutely horrifying, like something out of Saw ... anyway 😅) Looking forward to seeing how the zoo and animals continue to grow over the year and maybe you should consider some semi-aquatic animals for the future, make some use out of all that rain 😉

The new tortoise outdoor spaces looks good! The rain has been horrendous my ponys field was starting to get small dry spots of mud then it just rained non stop again! Wow that's crazy and really shows just how much rain there has been! Digging trenches with your feet now that's my activity at the minute! 🤞🏻 It dries out a bit soon!

@@NorthumberlandZoo my pony is fine he lives out 24/7 but has natural bushes and trees for sheltering if he wants (not that he does most of the time) he enjoys splashing in the puddles and rolling in the muddiest spot!
