I used to play neverwinter back in like 2018 before level cap was made 20 and i would just like to say that every single leveling zone has been GUTTED from what it used to be and that makes me the big sad. I remember it used to take you like a few days to clear each zone, you really got connected to each story and really felt your characters story progress. I recently replayed neverwinter a few months ago and i did the entire Main Story in like 10 hours and hit max level content so fast i actually wanted to cry a little. DnD level cap is 20 because it will take you a LONG time to get there and that leads to a LOT of character development through that time spent.

Yeah, I started with my character before the level cap and played quite a while, then took a long absence leaving the main character at 40-something level and having nothing better to do, returned to the game around the COVID lockdown. I remember being quite surprised finding my character at the low 20 level, thinking they've decreased my level for some reason. Anyway, the game used to be much more fun, there was a bigger sense of achievement and your leveling felt earned. Nowadays, I am seeking the best items to upgrade my characters (as most important stats come from the items once you hit level 20) instead of enjoying the storyline. I still look forward to exploring new areas, but it all feels rushed now.

You made a point during the progression which I feel the small community always holds back from sharing. There is plenty of content to approach for a mid game player to group and grind. However, most are considered "secrets" as the experienced players would prefer to profit; rather than let the average player impede on their cash cow. Even at 75k rating as a returning player you feel like its a secret society of information being held back; when you simply want to grind something new, and make some profit. You're pushed to believe you need 90k rating to even think about something worth doing. Its very unfortunate and turns a lot of players away. They are given this impossible gap they are expected to close from people who haven't experienced "grinding" in years. I haven't heard a single mention of farms for low levels in the past two months from anyone but myself since reinstalling. No one talks about undermountain expeditions. No one talks about dread ring enchantment runs. Sharandar shattered diamond farms. Masterwork recipe farming. And I'm sure there are 100's more I've yet to discover either. 14:00 this lighting effect is called "Bloom", im pretty sure it was used so much in the 2000-2010's era of video games because it was a new technological improvement in lighting engines, thus almost every game wanted to take advantage and market their game as "next-gen", kind of like how games today show off RTX graphics.

This game used to be fun. As a D&D player I found this game when i got my ps4. It was fun to level my warlock up and there was a time when you can make different builds and be creative at it not the cookie cutter builds we got after mod 16 dropped. Before that mod it wasnt so p2w, i used to farm and exchange astral diamonslds into Zen and get my VIP every month, i really didnt need to use the Zen store other than for that. Then, after mod 16 I found myself using real money to buy things to refine enchantments and other utilities more and more to be able to be close to end game and help my guild in endgame content. I spent 4 yrs in this game, made friends that i truly miss but after all the money and time I dedicated the decided on one of the later mods to overhaul stuff, again. All the enchantment were obsolete. I put on with the previpus overhauls but this one just pissed me off bc it was like everything i did was for nothing bc the devs could just do away with all of it and we the players had no say no options....excpet leaving and thats what i did. Josh Strife Hayes has a vid on this game and its heartbreaking bc i feel that, i loved this game but the this game doesnt love its player base back. I played this game when it first came out, I was SO excited for it and kept my eye on it for when it would be released. I love DnD, I grew up on the Dragonlance and Drizzt books, and I played the Neverwinter Nights game and its expansions to DEATH. I loved this game in its early years, it had so much heart, and the Foundry was AMAZING, player-made dungeons you could run, going from very simple to incredibly immersive and compelling, and even incredibly quirky and funny. I spent more time running Foundry content than the game itself, it was so fun. Sadly, the game steadily went downhill, it became more monetized, got rid of the Foundry, and though when it first opened they were making new races that were added free for everyone, you just got to play the race months earlier if you paid, if I remember correctly. I was really disappointed at every change made that continued to chop the game up and make it worse, more predatory, etc. Changing the leveling system was the last straw for me, as I love the leveling process and watching my character go from almost a peasant to the savior of the world. It's just... Really sad. It was such a good game, but greed killed it... They went way too hard on monetization. Most people I know are more inclined to buy from the shop if they're not being annoyed into it and having locked off content thrown in their face every five minutes.

Queue time for dungeons and raids are a nightmare for a DPS role, but if you play as a Tank or a healer it's a different story. The problem is, tanking and healing needs more experience especially on epic dungeon, since mechanic matters. Maybe on normal dungeon a high gearscore dps can carry you but not on epic, tank and heal were the key, that is why they were so rare thus the queue time for a DPS role became so long.

I was a long time F2P player years ago before this game even went to console. To me, it went downhill after they gutted the levels and dungeons. It became similar to WoW now where Zones aren't separated by levels anymore, if you become level 15, your mobs also became level 15, etc. That also meant low levels were now grouped up with max levels in dungeons, so that stopped being fun since you couldn't really gauge your progress against our peers anymore because you were vastly out leveled and out geared. The daily quest grind was also so crazy long, it made it insanely tedious to min-max your character's stats. If you also had Alts, yeah it's rough. Expansions made the dailies feel even more gruesome. All that said though, man this game was so fun back then. Assassin, GWF, Control Wizard were my top three classes.

This game's hayday has long past. It was great years ago when there was a reason to go out and do each campaign because they were reasonable to do, but now they just keep the old ones insanely bloated so you're incentivized to pay to get max completion with zero time spent. It's quite literally hundreds of hours saved for about $40 USD for each individual campaign. Truly it's just saved though, as there's no difference in how they're handled for the most part. The level cap used to be 60, eventually bumped up to 80. It started showing cracks around the first level increase, and just has fallen flat since then. Part of the reason for the levels feeling so weirdly compact is because this was first based on D&D 4e, which had 3 tiers fo Adventures. Fresh Adventurers, levels 1-10. Paragons, which were level 11-20. Epic Adventurers, which were 21-30. They doubled the levels to make it so you had more incremental gains, and you actually gained experience. Then with 5e, they eventually pressured Cryptic to compact it down to 20 levels. 20 levels was the standard before 4e, and is the standard they returned to with 5e. Just so many times they mishandled things, and the game's gotten worse over the years as a result. It's now a hollow shell of what it was, with only the die hard fans remaining.

I did see a video towards the end of 2022 showing changes to the game that made me give it another try for a few months last year but in the end the game is still bad. F2P, P2W. Yes you can get a lot of the best items free but the change to the amount of AD you could farm each day (dropping from unlimited if you were willing to put in the time) to 100k per day per account was like ASKING people to spend real money rather than earn currency to buy them at your own pace. Another thing was as a returning player i had a bunch of maximum rank enchantments but the system changed from 14 being max down to 5 but the trading for old 14s wasn't heres a 5 in return, instead you got these coins that enabled you to purchase level 3 regular enchants or 4s of the new enchants that had been bought out
@kittywampusdrums49639 ай бұрын
You need to do campaign to get boon points. You don't have to grind them all, there are regular events that give you 2x campaign currencies as well as "genie's gifts" which basically you can use to buy campaign currency with. There are also buyout tokens, if you plan on spending a little bit.

So i think you have given a fair and honest critique of Neverwinter from a new player perspective. As a player who has been playing for almost 4 years now let me try to explain where the fun is but i will not try to down play the problems of neverwinter though i do think because of not knowing certain things you haven't has the best opportunity to really show the potential for a new player in neverwinter. Let me start by saying yes the level progression was reduced to level 20 however this was to be more in line with the DnD level cap which is generally level 20. I do agree they don't do enough to prepare a new player purely from the Leveling progression to level 20, they dont explain enough realy important mechanics and they certainly dont pin point you to how to find other players. The game is very hands off, the developers want you to discover alot of things yourself rather than directly pinpoint you to things or directly teach certain things. While this isnt necessarily helpful for many new players some people will enjoy this sense of discovery that neverwinter allows. Some things alot of new players dont relise is as follows: 1 there are reasons for players to have multiple alternative characters from, which means there is always people running through the progression zones, new players and old and you can always use the zone chat to find others in your area who may be doing the same thing as you. 2. Once you reach level 20 yes you can run through the adventires for some usefull rewards however the lastest campains are always open to everyone regardless of item level, and the latest campains will always provide stepping stone equipment and will always be the most active areas. So as a new player you want to jump straight into the latest campain regardless of your item level, regardless of how much you may struggle in the area, you want to get there as soon as possible and find others to help you get the stepping stone equipment which will always be the fastest way to get that item level up, getting the item level up opens up new areas and encourages others to play with you. 3. Most players have a power fantasy and so DPS characters are always the most abundant, because they are the most abundant the dungeon queues have long wait times, if you dont want to be waiting for the queues than what you need to do is either play Tank or Healer or go into the zone chat and look for a group rather than just waiting for random queues to pop. Only the skirmish queue doesnt have role requirements. 4. The fastest route to finding people to play with and to reach end game is to find a helpful friendly guild if you can. Yes you could spend years grinding to have everything complete and to do everything in the game but you dont have to complete everything in the game you just have to make your stats good enough to perform your role effectively, and those years of grinding arent necessarily going to find you regular groups to play with, only your own charisma and social skills can help find regular groups to enjoy the game with. While again i think your criticism of neverwinter is fair and honest i feel due to a little unintentional ignorance or lack of knowledge you haven't been able to fully experience the potential of a new player in neverwinter in 2024

Hmm, but what do expect from a story game, if its a negative point that you change from one storyline to another storyline ? And questing is nothing negativ, in any other game that has a story, youll have to follow the quests, so its compketely normal

Most people quit when they realize there is no experience bar. It’s the first real “what am I even doing here then” moment in the game. The first of many.

I’ve tried too many times. The have a couple 20’s. No clue what to do on them since I took time off. So I start new characters and in a week or so I saw one or two other people and felt zero progression. Zero. No clue what level I get to because they don’t matter. My lvl 20’s can do basically exactly what my lvl 5 can do.

I played this game when it first came out. It looked good for the time, gameplay and progression was also ok. I cant remember the details and the names, but there was definitely dungeon-like group content. The best thing was player made dungeons. Such a promising concept, and there were daily quests inciting you to do them, and the popularity ranking system. That had amazing potential. Things started looking bit more grim once you get introduced to astral diamonds and all the other similar things. Again, not a disaster, but it became clear p2w was more pronounced then in other games of that era. At that time, small sub that gives you access to everything was still a norm, and this looked weird. Concerning as it was, that wasnt the reason I quit. I got really disappointed with a disaster they had with servers, the kind of I never heard of in other games. Apparently they forgot to program in absolute number when you make a currency exchange. Someone found out that if you type in a negative number when exchanging you get back both the currency you are buying and the one you are selling. Soon the word got out, thousands of people started doing it and sort of broke the game down. The devs then decided to roll back the entire game something like 3 days back, and we lost the progression. As I just hit the max level and got lucky with some rolls procs whatever, I felt so disappointed to go back a bunch of levels, it became kind of meaningless and I abandoned the game.

Biggest problem of this game is mid and true end game, to enter this u need this Item LVL, u can get this by eq ofc, some grinding and upgrading artufacts and other, but its not enough, u need, u NEED a legendary mounts and companions, mostly companions when almost every one u have gives u Item LVL, u dont have to use IT, and for me this is the biggest problem of game, cuz u can't have that without spending money, ofc u can farm diamonds or however this currency is called to buy them from other players but its takes a ton of time, like an months when u Play just on 1 or 2 characters, to get one of them, but u need hundrets , like neverending story ..

I also just started playing NW recently, & seems to me like you rushed through it. I dunno how you got to max in 8 hours, cause I'm only at lvl 11 after about twice that time. In my time, I joined a guild, checked out the crafting system, chose my 2nd class path (all of which the game shows you via quests) & tried out other classes up to lvl 3 to see which I'd enjoy most. The game is really streamlined to the point where you shouldn't have missed your paragon path choice at lvl 11 or the crafting & guild joining stuff unless you really just weren't paying attention to the game, which I know a lot of streamers tend to do because they are multitasking. Someone like me, who is a normal gamer who doesn't stream, & others who just want a game to play in their free time & don't have to multitask while playing probably won't have the same issues that you were having.

I understand your stance on monetization so I think gamers have a choice.... pay for the game and a subscription or have it free to play with a cash shop. There is no lack of integrity in that business model but just the need for a company to make money to keep developing a game. I think we harshly judge cash shops and then cry when there's a sub. How exactly would you suggest a developer pay the salaries of those developing the game? or pay for the servers to run the game? or pay for the customer support to assist when there are problems?

I played on and off for about 13 years or something I can't remember exactly lol been in and out many times. I finally gave up before the spell area, I do however love the combat for Rouge's, it's so fluid when done well. But like you say there's too many downsides to keep playing ill always go back and check it out tho hoping for some good changes
@justinmaier1938 ай бұрын
Just a pointer! I didn't see you taking advantage of the rouges core ability: Stealth. This skill once activated gives other encounters and at-wills some very powerful buffs that give the rouge that "Unique" feel. In case you wanted to continue to play this class, I recommend you really give it some play while being a sneaky. Also! The leveling system of NW is a classic system from the DND experience called "Milestone" lving. This system puts a focus less on the grind of exp, and more onto the understanding of the games mechanics and environment. Unfortunately, throughout the mods of NW the devs have taken away many zones, quests and key points of NW as a whole that gave it a story and place as a stand alone game. This means that once they removed the exp grind to get to 80( which usto be 60 when the game launched) it took away the played MMO rush as you said as we level, forcing us to look at a shell of what NW usto be I have for years been in a rough place with NW. I have just about 3800h on xbox in this game and have loved it for years. It has had many ups and downs, but always seems to suck me back in. I can tell you as someone that has taken the time to complete all endgame content from mod 9-26, the game has hours and hours of content to explore and so many lovely people to meet, but TAKE YOUR TIME! This game has a grind of its own, and often yes that will prevent you from doing content, but thats ok! If you take it at your pace, explore chartacter builds and classes, you will have a experience that is worth the wait and possibly meet people you be best friends with for life.

theres a decent few things where cryptic fumbled the ball over past years. they couldve kept the leveling system even if crunching down numbers there wasnt a thing wrong with it. there used to be daily dragons through older zones which they removed. they were little get togethers of a great deal of many players! older contents gear is no longer viable in many cases. elemental evil campaign gets skipped 98% of the time gringing required for the few things it gives. rewards are definitely not on par. i like helping starting players but cant reach them all. last thing cryptic SHOULD change is the amount of grinding needed for simple campaign progression. were not all equally exited to play other world job simulator. random ques, guild activities and hardcore/master content is all there is left and sadly not even all of it, only certain dungeons still get run for what they give you. plenty to explore but since rewards for older content are as u said low, not many do them or leave them for later which is sad.
