NEW 15th Doctor Two-tone Christmas Special Sonic Screwdriver Review

Not sure I see the two-tone but maybe it’s too subtle for my old eyes. What do you guys reckon of this variant? Fair for the price? Something you want?

Just ordered the standard edition. Just liked the paint better and the text is way sharper. Hopefully I'll like it, in hand. Just got it in the mail.

Two Tone, in my experience, means two main colors. in this case red and silver. JUst going by car paint terminology when you've got a two tone paint job you're usually looking at color A on top and color B on the bottom.

I can see a bit of orange-y yellow in the colour at some angles. So the two tone might be referring to that

I personally like the standard edition because the paint work matches all the other sonics i have. Although im still gonna get the pink one eventually

The colouring of the standard edition is nice but with mine at least it just feels rough around the edges and like it isn’t quite going to hold together. That plus the ridiculous removal of features is just unnecessary to me

@order66collectibles I understand why they took the swivel feature out of the viewer bit since ghe battery's are hidden underneath the plate of that bit but they could have easily had still kept the USB bits sound effects. On the standard edition

this looks absolutely lovely. my only complaint is that character options doesn't sell stuff in the states because 30 bucks is way too much for shipping. hoping i can get this some day but definitely not any time soon

At this point I’m only excited to see these new sonics come out just for your review! Let me say it was so cool to see the standard 14th Doctor sonic & 13th/14th Doctor regeneration set in US stores finally! They still have “online exclusive” printed on it, xD really bizarre. Hoping for another beautiful Flight Control Tardis for 14/15 someday! I just recently picked up a 12th Doctor Tardis and it’s quite the piece! Love all of the fun features it has. Seems I’ll be waiting a bit longer to get 15s “deluxe” sonic in the US! Joy to the World that the special will be on in the UK at a much more reasonable time! 🥳 and once again another absolutely fantastic review! 💙💙

It definitely changes colour, it's just rather subtle and depends on the light. You can see it in your video, but just a touch, and in other videos it looks like it's properly changing from orange to pink.

Yeah I’ve seen a few pictures from other people now which seem to show a bit more of an orange hint to it. In all my light it looks pink so maybe I need new bulbs 😂

Nice to see a new casing of the sonic like it gets in the show... that isn't just CO recyling the Tenth Doctor's sonic. Also, yeah, while the retail sonic is probably more affordable... yeah, I'd rather save for the deluxe version instead.

Yeah I’m glad they’ve done it because it is show-accurate and some people are going to love this. I would like character options to revisit 10’s sonic. Given the technical ability shown making this 15th sonic, they can DEFINITELY make an accurate 10th doctor sonic with the activation switch on the slider

I picked it up from the post office next to work on Wednesday and damn, on my break I couldn't stop looking at it. The two tone nature of the paintjob is very lighting dependant. The only issue I have with mine is the gold on the buttoned side is coming out at one corner a smidge, just barely. It's not a huge issue but it's definitely noticeable as it's not perfectly flush with the surface And it could just be my blue one's batteries but the new pink one looks like the lights are slightly better, maybe frosted or something, because they shine more evenly, and the speaker is a tad louder, at least on my unit. Either no one cares enough to notice or I got a defective unit in the best ways, because my pink one functionally is far superior to the blue one

I think its just the Yellow one that needs a release now, funnily releasing them in reverse order of what I want but I was getting them all anyway, this is probably my fave sonic what with all of the retro future vibes

This is a sonic that I was hesitant about but the more I’ve messed around with it the more I like it. I wish they’d add different features to the different colour options..or lower the price. £120 for 3 sonics that don basically the same thing is a bit much

@order66collectibles I don't know how they'd do a plate change version looking at it in hand Although I wouldn't be opposed to it Perhaps something like the Solar Morpher from power rangers jungle fury? Despite being a massive fan of the franchise I've not bought figures since I was a kid, I just opt to go for the sonics so it's more justifiable for myself since there's nothing else I'd pick up otherwise

I do see the two toned effect. Especially with the photos ive seen of others sonics, where it had an orangey or salmon tint in some pics. I think its cool visually but rather get another doctors sonic.

Yeah I’ve seen a few photos from others showing a more orange finish. I think I need to replace all my bulbs because I just see metallic pink 😂 It’s nice but I’d rather have had them revisit 10’s sonic to make an accurate version with the switch on the slider and smaller size too

Normal edition was not good, felt cheap. Chrome edition was much better and i did manage to buy the pink one. I like it but it's my last purchase on Sonic Screwdrivers for a while.

I’d agree with you there. I wouldn’t worry, i don’t see character options releasing more. I do know that Nawya replicas are working on a few budget friendly replicas though that will be ready next year and look amazing

I’d be surprised if they’ll make this as a retail version. The other blue versions are still very available so the sales wouldn’t justify a 4th version. I could be wrong though

Yeah I prefer 14’s too. this is a nice different design but I prefer the ‘wand-style’ classic design

To me it just looks like a red version of the deluxe edition that’s already available but some fans have seemed to notice that it looked like in some episodes of last season he was using a different colored sonic and while have the blue deluxe edition the design is growing on me and to me since the revival in 05 it’s stopped being a screwdriver and has become more like a Swiss Army knife especially under Matt with all they would have his sonic do but it looks nice but I’m thinking do we really need the deluxe version rerelease just in a different color shell if it did something the blue deluxe edition didn’t do then I could justify it release cause we never got a release of the broken sonic from Matt’s first Christmas special for example and the could have just released a pack of cases for it to make it look like it’s different colors

Yeah I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there and that’s my issue with it too - it’s nice…but it isn’t new. It’s only a few months since we had the exact same sonic in different colours. Personally I’d rather they go back and revisit making an accurate 10th Doctor sonic with the activation button on the slider rather than pumping out the same sonic in different colours

incredibly flimsy. I just accidentally dropped mine from a medium height and now it cuts out. completely unacceptable for the price
