Thanks. 508 has changed my perception of Peugeot as it's the first Pug in a long time that has a suspension set-up that irons out bumps. Note the GT model on test has double wishbones at the front unlike McPherson struts on the rest of the range. I suspect the 508 has less road noise than a 6 and the seats and interior materials are of a Germanic quality but shoulders will touch with three adults in the back. Think the Passat will have a firmer ride.

Drove the Mazda 6 diesel 130hp, and I remembered us talking. My opinion that 508 is a better car is even stronger now. Mazda 6 just feels cheap when you sit inside in comparison. It doesn't have even nearly as much attention to detail, materials and fit and finish are not nearly as good, etc. Its louder inside, not as refined, not as comfortable. Only gear shift is slightly nicer to use. But other than that, 508 is clearly a car in a different league, its like comparing BMW 3 and BMW 5.

@mps2356789 Suppose only time will tell whether it will be reliable but fortunately, the 2.2 HDi has room around the bay to access serviceable parts and it is an economical 204bhp engine. My main criticisms are that the tailgate opening isn't square and there are too many buttons around the dashboard.

wow.. alll these cars have better thing when we compare.. mazda6 has a very very good design and you know, mazda chosed the longest life time cars.. 508 has lots of options like head up, good interior or 4 settinged A/C.. i think passat is boring.. I am looking for 1.6 thp 508.. peugeot started to make good cars and i think I can trust peugeot now..

The mondeo hasn't got the power of the 2.2gt pug either, ford has 197 Bhp where as the pug has 205 bhp, I guess it doesn't sound like a lot more but having driven both cars, believe me it makes a difference. 508 sw GT every time for me.

and as you know mazda has a very high brand level.. every people knows mazda is a very high quality car but people always think peugeot is cheap and down quality.... 508 is a really nice car but mazda6 is more gentle.

@mps2356789 Cant say i dont like mazda 6, but it simply looks silly next to peugeot 508. 508 feels like a much more expensive car, much more grown up. Reminds of an audi a4 in fact, in terms of quality, materials, driving..

@derbigpr500 actually i will never look 508 again cause we already bought the mazda6... to be honest yes 508 looks more luxury and expensive but mazda6 seems more royal and gentle... when you see 508 you say it is an expensive and luxury car but when you see mazda6 you can say this car should be a very good car.. it is something like quality feel.... we have 18'' rims brown leather seats afl bi xenons bose but no navigation... it has same hp with 508 (155) and it is moree enjoyable and fast

The engines are exactly the same! PSA and Ford produce diesels together :/
