I own a KTM superduke 1290 GT and I'm considering buying my sons Grom as he moves on. The Grom offers fun rides around town in a way a bigger bike does not. I'm not keen on the new 2021 looks. Good call going to the five speed. The ratios are far too wide on the four speed, with too much of an rpm drop between changes, which forces you to over rev in order to have the engine speed right for the next gear. I've been mulling that Takegawa five speed kit for a while now. The new seat is also a great change. The stock one was an endurance test. The new one looks like the Corbin I got a few months back.

Probably good for riding to work and back through traffic, but not if, like me, you are a 4-season rider and need a little wind protection... in which case the PCX150 will do you nicely, and you can keep it in the Honda family. Great looking little bike. At first glance, the updated one reminds me slightly of the Money and Ape, both of which have been re-rereleased here and the larger of the two (Ape) being about as popular as the Grom going by that I have seen on the road (don't know the stat's, though). I would not mind one of these as a toy, but I suspect that the 110 kilometres (70 miles) I have to do for work-and-back every day would soon become even more tiresome having to change gears in traffic all the way. They do seem to get through traffic very well, though. They are fairly popular here in Japan, but nowhere near as many bikes of this nature on the orad as there are regular scooters. Though that point should be balanced out with the admission that many of the scooters are 50cc step-throughs used by older folks for cheap and easy shopping machines. Thanks for the video.

Having owned & riden 600cc sport bikes, our 19 Honda GROM the most fun of any motorcycle / the 4sp requires less shifting & tuning the motor to boost output very simple / its needs more power to ride highway in the USA, something like 6,000 RPM at 54 mph in 4th gear .... superlative fuel economy stock, tuning it with a cold air intake & free flowing exhaust + power commander & O2 sensor driven wideband tuner .. seat of the pants feels like a solid 10% more power, able to cruise with upright seating at 60 mph, I am just shy of 6ft tall * about 160lbs // thats at 7k + RPM on the highway / I use ethanol free gasoline since it contains more energy & get something like ~122 MPG // commuting to work with the GROM SF The new Grom looks better for a few reasons; larger fuel capacity, better emissions profile stock, removable body work, improved headlight, addition of 5 speed with dash indicator of gear position & fuel economy readout // Not enough for an upgrade from outgoing model, but surely improvements that should help improve sales to new buyers, new riders & people looking for something more fun & less extreme than a sportbike ..

half the point of this video is that it's got a 5 speed box now. Engine is brand new, to meet the latest global environmental regs. Yes, it's an air-cooled thumper,, which is arguably old-tech but it's the latest a/c thumper out there, and if it were a 225cc w/c with a 6speed box, it would cost at least 50% more.
