LFP also doesn’t like to be charged to 100% everyday either. However, it needs to be charged to 100% once a week so the BMS is accurate as there is minimal voltage change across the SOC range. Certainly not good to charge LFP to 100% and leave it there everyday just not nearly as bad as doing so with NCA

Its incorrect to say LFP prefers to be charged to 100% and best for longevity (They prefer to be at same levels as Li-Ion for that). LFP's need to be charged to 100% every now and then (Once a week) due to their characteristics relating to balancing of the cells but got that many more cycles in them the average user would not notice the extra degradation of the 100% SOC gives the cells. Li-Ion isnt at best longevity at 80% but around 60% but the extra degradation of 80% is very low so you would very probably never notice.

You might want to mention that standard AutoPilot still exhibits a significant flaw - Phantom Braking. My testing, while not exhaustive, has shown that AP with AutoSteer Beta and AP without AutoSteer Beta both encounter the random Phantom Braking incidents. A number of FSDbeta test drivers have mentioned this problem, many of them mentioning they keep a foot over the accelerator to "nudge" the car out of the PB incidents. This is not a safe situation, especially when a car may be close behind you and unable to react in time to avoid a rear-end collision. For this reason, I avoid using AP when in traffic which unfortunately defeats one of the major benefits claimed for AP.

Much better when the cars AP was radar based and anyone just laughed of how tragic bad the wiper-auto was due to npr having a proper rainsensor vs. any other car. We bought enhanced autopilot on our Bangkok Model Yp. My wife uses the park feature a lot and I use the summon feature frequently. Parking spaces in Bangkok are small even at the superchargers. A model Y is a big fat car compared to to most in Thailand and could use with wider parking spaces, but the summon feature makes this fact of life more doable. Here in the US on business I’m renting a Model Y from hertz and I can see how more a pain in the neck it is to use basic autopilot on the highway having to disengage / reengage lane keeping especially when it take four freeways and lots of lane changes to go anywhere around here much like LA or Bangkok. Enhanced Autopilot handles this much more simply with a flick on the turn signal when suggested by the car. The next car will have at least extended autopilot.

Any auto company can purchase batteries for their vehicles that are "better" than Tesla's. The question is how many and at what cost? Tesla's strength is in using "good enough" batteries that can be mass produced at low cost. I can buy a 10,000 dollar hat from Stetson, or I can buy a 100 dollar hat from my local store. Both will do the same job of covering my head, but one is an incredibly expensive status symbol of the "best."

Ryan, I’m a big fan of your KZbin channel. I'm sorry in advance for the long message and that I may sound like I'm complaining. I'm not sure where to go to post feedback for improvements. Speaking of safety I have a few concerns after owning my Y for about 1 1/2 years. I’d like to share. In general I'm very happy and I hope the Dash Cam feature fix can be future software update. I've mentioned to my issue to Tesla during my flat tire service call survey about the Dash Cam not recording during a major event while driving. It would be interesting to know what you or your audience think about it. The Dash Cam: is a great feature and It would be even better if it could recored on any event ( we can delete the video once we no longer need or save on our computer). I had two situations and I would have liked to have the video. Some road debris hit my front bumper (no event / no warning) and a flat tire (event). Event alerted me that my tire was low and possibly flat. It would be great to have a Dash Cam with GPS that can be sent to the state or county to report the incident to file a claim with them or insurance co. Better yet Tesla sends to the state automatically (hopefully in the future). I don’t think any human driver should think about pressing a dash cam button to recored in an emergency. I don’t know if autopilot would have recorded this on the dash cam and my guess is it would have probably turned it over to the human driver or come to a safe stop. My goal at that time was to drive slowly to safety off of the parkway that was narrow and had no side safe area. I did look for the DashCam soon after the events and found nothing was recorded. Interesting Tesla sells a $300 Solid State Drive, if I purchased that device it would have tons of storage to record the Dash Cam. Would that improve the Dash Cam? That would be a nice to know video. I’ve seen KZbin discuss flat tire but never mentioned anything about a dash cam recording issue. I understand that the Dash Cam gets captured during an airbag deployment ( I hope and pray that never happens ) or by pressing the record button which is a feature that I hope gets improved. I do use the Dash Cam record button for a sightseeing clip. I hope a fix will come with the holiday update. Recall notice for Emergency release in the back door for pre ’12 model Y’s and 3’s. The new Model Y’s ’23 have this new Red tag in the rear doors. The new red pull tag should be a retro kit ($50 fair for a pair) that can be easily installed or should be a recall. Maybe all EV’s have this issue with electronic doors, I don’t know. I have a hammer they sell to break the glass. I learned about this issue after purchasing the car, I’m living with it but prefer a Red Tag. I enjoy the Y and helping to save the planet but there is always room for improvement. I hope the above helps. Thanks for reading.

Can we stop with this fallacy that the LFP battery prefers to be charged to 100%. That's simply false. It's required to be charged to 100% at least once per week to ensure the BMS is calibrated, but it WILL degrade faster charging to 100% vs. charging to 80%. If it wasn't for the BMS calibration requirements, you would treat LFP the same as NCA/NMC. LFP has a higher cycle life so it can be treated less poorly, but there's quite a bit of data showing LFP packs having faster initial degradation than the NMC/NCA packs in other cars due to charging to 100% often.

For Tesla range, it's important to evaluate - how many days a month we would be driving over 220 miles in a day - and for the average driver this will be just 2-5 times a month. Analysts obsess over this so much and talk about re-charging on the road as if its like defaulting on your mortgage payments, while actually ICE drivers are gasing up far more at the gas station 10-20 times a month. It's not really a problem, given range gets longer almost every 6 months, and almost every Tesla driver leaves home at 80-100% charge and a range of 200-280 miles each day.

The Tesla dropped - $10,000 few weeks after we picked up our new Tesla. After another + 6 months, it dropped another - $2,000. It told us the Tesla overprice what we had bought. After 21,000 miles, we had to removed and replaced with 4 new tires, battery was heavy, it cost us $1,600 for 4 new tires. Tesla came with No Spare Tire (new rim is $400). The mileages had dropped from 10% 15%. To be mindful before everyone buys . . . What if Tesla prices will drop again? In overall all electric vehicles aren't doing very well. The federal credit $7,500 isn't working easy as every dealer talks about. To assure to check with your tax advisor. No more Tesla vehicles for us!
@imzjustplayin Жыл бұрын
While I do agree that what happened to you in terms of the price drop sucks for you (bad luck/timing), the tax credit is something that isn't involved with the dealer but whoever does and files your taxes. As for the tires, assuming you didn't get the largest sized rims but the standard size rims, I wouldn't purchase the OEM tires as they're performance tires that don't last long and are very expensive. Just search for tires that are the exact same size as factory and disregard any suggestions that you need tires that are better than H or V rated because it's complete bunk since V rated tires are rated at 149MPH. On my model S I got the Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 as they have a 70K mile warranty, ride well, grip well, quiet and have better tread life than the factory recommended tires. Even if the tires don't get anywhere near their warranty rating for tread life, the credit I get from the manufacturer for reduced tread life makes this acceptable.
