Realistically a 765 Daytona would have to cost around £13.5k+ so in these difficult financial times, a 660 at £8.5k will obviously find more owners. Personally, I love the graphite finish. 👍

I did look at this bike for upgrading my beginner bike but I quickly went back to the CBR 650R with sport package. The looks and what comes with it isn't doing it for me. Would also have loved to purchase the RS 660 but Aprilia does not have a good reliability reputation 😥. If Triumph wants to sell me something just slap a full fairing on the Street Triple RS😅

I don’t understand those who are complaining about the use of the Daytona monicker because it’s not up to the power legacy of the name…yet the Ninja can be a 400 or 650 or 1000 or, more pointedly, a ZX6R or a ZX10R and no one seems to have an issue with that.

Listen, Ive had the honor of seeing and even sitting on this bike in person. While I have a trident 660 and a 2024 Street Triple RS, i think this bike (from just sitting on it) is a great inbetween for the Triple Line. I understand the Daytona name is a track breed machine, but this thing in person looks awesome and think its hitting the right market that triumph is after. The market of people interested in sport bikes, but dont want to have just one ride on their 1000cc Widowmakers. Think about the CBR650R and the other 600cc middleweight sport bikes. Sure theres no adjustable suspension or brembos, but triumph being triumph wouldnt put junk on their new bike. (Have you noticed im a fanboy yet?) ALl in all, i cant wait to ride this bike once my local dealer gets a demo. Remember the last 765 Daytona offered by triumph? It just sat on the showroom floor. Was it price? Speed? Other options on the market? Who knows but i think triumph is going to sell these like the Trident 660 (Which my local dealers couldnt keep em in stock in 2022). All in all, im excited to see reviews and make one myself!

Going back to older Daytonas, the 955i from the late 90’s and early 2000’s wasn’t as aggressive as the liter bikes of its day. And according to rider triangles the new Daytona is pretty close to the CBR650R, slightly more aggressive actually with the reach to the bars being a tad longer as they are a tad lower. Still doesn’t change my mind on this bike, I think it’s an excellent daily rider sport bike.

Spot on. This is what people are missing, including many reviewers, that have memories that only go back to the 675 Daytona. Daytona for Triumph means fully-faired sports bike, the same as Ninja does for Kawasaki, or CBR is for Honda. It is a type\class of bike, like ADV, or Roadster, not a specific model.

The 97/98 Daytona T595 was battling with the top litre bikes, the problem was the R1 arrived in 98 and moved the game on. The gen 2 955i was a softer bike. There is also the Daytona 600 and 650 which won at the TT 😁

I feel like triumph saw what the r7 did to the r6. And having the engine and chassis already done with the trident, its only natural that they follow the market demands. Sure, its not a pure Daytona. But just like the r7, its going to open up triumph to more new riders. And come on, its going to be a good bike nonetheless. Just not as tracky as the okder daytonas.

Some people need to chill out and understand the market. The old Daytona is not what the majority of people are looking for. Just because a few people want it doesn't mean they can just make a model for those few people. An example of this would be the Thruxton. Sales sucked on those the last couple years (I work at a dealership). The Speed Twin far out sold the Thruxton so the it was cut.
@kaveiros75
@kaveiros75 6 ай бұрын
Thruxton deserved a place in the market... but the only reason why it didn't sell more, was its high price. We could also have a Thruxton with no Ohlins (just as MotoGuzzi did with their V100 Mandello) or even a lighter and more fun new Thruxton 900.

Interesting vid. I get why some people are a bit annoyed about the Daytona nalme being used but it makes no difference to me. The use of the R7 name on the current model is a much bigger traversty imo. As for the 660, it's not pretending to be a 675 supersport & I'd rather it existed than not. For me personally it's the perfect blend of everything for the type of road riding I want to do. Not too much power, weight, tech, discomfort or cost. Definitely going to check it out this spring. Also GSX8R comes with a QS & will be checking that out too.

It seems to me the supersport cycle might be starting again as this current crop of soft sports bikes all have very similar power, weight & performance to the middleweight sports bikes of the late 80's early 90's. Hopefully it might reignite the category & if so, the evolution will be much quicker. It also needs to be as the petrol engine is running out of time.

Good video and I can appreciate each perspective. There is no lack of passion with bikers! That is surely one of the draws! I own a Daytona 600, Daytona 765 Moto 2 and a Street Triple Moto 2. The branding is not such a bother to me personally. What does matter is whether sitting on this bike will feel like I am on another part of the Triumph line up. And given that I just sat on one two days ago... I can say it does. And thus I am sold...or bought. I literally pre-bought one on the spot. 😂

I personally was debating between a ZX4RR and a Trident for my next bike, but the moment this bike was announced, I was immediately drawn to it. There aren’t any tracks near where I live so I probably won’t be going for any track days, and the speed limits in my country are all on the slower end at 90km/h (56mp/h I think) at the quickest. I commute by bike almost daily and backpack a guitar for my music gigs weekly too, as well as pillioning my wife around town. Seems to be the perfect bike for what I need it for, just waiting to hear the exhaust note to confirm that!

Who are sports motorbikes made for? Which age groups have taken up motorcycling in recent years and currently? Does this group really want a radical sports motorbike with low handlebars that leads to sore wrists after a while? And do they want to be so intensively involved in sporty motorcycling that they can master high-performance motorbikes? I think the Daytona 660 is well positioned for the market with its parameters. It's suitable for versatile road use, doesn't overpower, delivers enough power to have fun with 95bhp and will appeal to a wide range of potential buyers. If you want something much sportier, there are other machines.

CB and CBR650's, R7 and MT07, Ninja 650 and Z650, all of the major brands have found a good market to go into, especially considering the markets in other countries where you have restricted licensing, a2, lams etc where your bike has to be restricted out of the box essentially to be able to ride it as a newer rider, I think the trident was a good naked version, it was sort of inevitable for someone who has a a reputation for doing mainly naked, speed and street triple etc for daily riders to do a sports bike that isn't full super sport tuck. The name daytona is reference to their sports models, same as the ninja/zx line up, cbr, R series, you get the point, it gives options for everyone so instead of splitting the brand and forcing us other brands like yamaha for sports bikes, you can split it into different models, with similar components but different skin as at the end of the day WE LOVE HOW THEY LOOK otherwise we wouldn't own them. So major props to them for giving it a whirl after how successful the trident was, seen heaps here in Australia.

I understand people wanting a supersport bike. I own a 2022 speed triple 1200rr because I wanted a new daytona. To be fully honest I almost have to go to the chiropractor every time I ride it and the power it's insane for the street. It's almost imposible to shift to second gear on the city. My previous bike was a Aprillia RSV4 and I had the same issues. I believed that the speed triple was a little more confortable (the clip ons are a little higher) and with 30 less hp (201 vs 178) I could get to the road easily without struggling so much on the city. Also having the semi active suspension with "confort mode" would create a good road bike. I was totally wrong. It's still 100% a supersport aimed only for the track. I think this bike fills that gap. I'm pretty sure it's going to be my next bike.

Even though the 660 isn't as track focused or premium as the 675 I believe it's a more realistic bike for day to day riding, IMO the perceived "insult" a lot of Yamaha aficionados felt when they named a 680 parallel twin the R7 broke the ice for Triumph to use the Daytona name, one consolation fans of the old Daytona should have will be the 660 being the fastest of the budget sports middleweights and knowing Triumph almost certainly the best handling.

I still don 't know why Triumph insists so much on that 660 c.c. platform (which feels more like a well-tuned 4-cylinder engine) and doesn 't use more the 765 c.c. engine, which is truly wonderful. I would love to see a street sport bike Daytona 765 (not just that limited, expensive, track-oriented "Moto2" version), or even a new Sprint 765. An everyday bike capable of taking a passenger, making small or longer trips and at the same time being able to have lots of fun in the twisties. Not everyone has the ability to do "track days"... and the best twisties are usually quite a distance from the urban areas, where most people live!

Bikes like this are the perfect entry point into larger capacity bikes in markets like India where daily riding is almost a necessity for many, especially since this general populous top out at around 400cc/40ish HP even with this likes of the RE650s. The pricing is also accessible enough where people here can actually buy the bloody thing without having to sell a kidney, so regardless of how many keep shitting on the Daytona branding, it's definitely a bike I'm considering as an upgrade from my speed400

I think if Triumph had just lazily stuck the base 660 engine in a Trident frame with fairing stuck on, it would’ve been a big disappointment, however, I think there are enough overall tweaks with this model, and the fact Triumph have tuned a fair chunk more power out of the engine, to just about justify the Daytona name - but I agree with other people saying it should have been called a Sprint, not a Daytona. Just like the new GSX 8R should have been called the GSX-8F, as it’s just a faired version of the base, naked bike.

Standard quickshifter and blipper, cornering lights, 6 axes AMU, great tires, more hp and torque, lower weight, more grunt at low RPM. In my opinion after the succes of Aprilia 660 others want the piece of pie now like the Yamaha, and now Triumph, but if you really looking for this sort of machine and want a real gem Aprilia is no brainer. The other ones are just developed to cash in (Yamaha from mt07, triumph from trident). Do your self a pleasure, don't buy a ' name'. There should be only one Daytona with the 765 engine and same brakes, suspension as the Street Triple RS.

Most of the push back I have seen online has been about the name, how this does not deserve to be called a Daytona. My arguments are: 1). A 660 Daytona does not change that a 675 Daytona existed, they can exist together in one world for anyone mature enough to accept it and move on. Look at the fuss that was made about the R7, people have now accepted it and moved on and it's a great bike that seems to be doing very well for Yamaha. 2). Daytona is probably the best name for Triumph from a copyright POV in ALL its target markets (I worked in Global Marketing, copyright is a big challenge to negotiate) 3). Daytona has not always represented track focused high performance machines. One example in 2005 Triumph released a 650 Daytona effectively removing itself from the 600 racing class. Earlier Daytona's were built to compete directly with the old CBR600F which in itself was more road friendly. 4). There is so much choice ATM, as consumers we are spoilt, I love seeing a road friendly, approachable Daytona appealing to and attracting newer riders to a sport where the demographic is aging. Thanks for doing this Motobob, love your content!

Street Sport might be a new genre for these kinds of bikes…less aggressive and performance oriented than true super sport bikes fr the track, but geared more for lively everyday real world use.

It's not the 675 that we hoped for though, the engine is as restricted as the trident. Not a daytona, its more of a CBR650R "touring" style motorbike.

The Trident dash looked cleaner and more exclusive compared to the Daytona. The shape and white lines to the warning lights makes it look cheap and toyish. Otherwise the Daytona looks great.

If you dont do too much track riding, which lets be honest, its not as much as it seems, ppl go 3 times per year and thinking themselves racers or track addict :p these are vehicles, tools that serve a purpose. Yes daytona 675 was more powerful but so what? They stopped producing it and said the one with moto2 carbon edition was the last one ever… would it be better if there were no mid size sporty bike with fairing from triumph? Most people commenting with a very narrow vision, just because its a british brand you live in uk, they designed this just for you lol. Also be smart, engines getting stronger, but traffic rules are not getting updated, security features are improving but speed limits are not… also there are cameras everywhere and they dint need humans anymore they just send you ticket… bikes over 100 hp is not realistic whatever you think or like, on average in practicality, 100hp is more then enough, +20 hp would make you smile a bit more for like 2 seconds but, i also would rather have best all rounded sporty mid size bike, rather than a stupid legacy that was discontinued. You can technicaly compare this sith aprillia but this is fkin way better and reliable then aprillia… honda is 4 cyclinder and old and heavy, r7 has both ups and downs. This bike is perfect.

People seem to look for reasons to get their panties twisted nowadays. The Daytona name has been on at least ten other Triumph models. None of the ones that followed the preceding one was the same spec and usually not the same cc or even the same number of cylinders. I don’t purchase the bike for the model name but what I can do with it. The new bike doesn't diminish the previous Daytona name or the ones before it. It is done all the time with Honda, Royal Enfield, Kawasaki, Harley and Suzuki just to name a few. Triumph has carried legacy names like Trophy, Trident, Bonneville, and Thruxton over many many times and none of these were like the original.

I didn't know that the RS660 has such a relaxed seating position. It looks rather like a "real" sports bike. The Daytona 660 doesn't. I think the RS 660 hit the spot, where it looks just like a sports bike, but still is quite comfortable. That would have suited the Daytona as well, especially with the history of its name

Great video as always, cracks me up all these 675 owners and ex owners bitchin and moaning that's its not worthy of the Daytona name, like to see how many would buy it if it was more focused and 13-15k hardly any that's why they don't make one anyone like most other manufactures hence why you now have these more road compliant versions. It's a business there running to make and sale bikes and what the market wants.
