Good review Andrew. Unless you need the high driving position, £30k also appears to get you a Golf 1.5L R-Line with 150hp and proper rear suspension etc. - my choice every time 👍

Had one as a rental recently . Asked for a Golf and got the keys of the t-cross. Was a bit pissed first. But when I started loading the luggage you carry with 2 small kids (including a stroller) it fitted so well and the family was comfy. Great little car 👌

Love it. Owned one now for a year (well, my wife has) and I'm continuously amazed at how gutsy that engine is, the general refinement and how much space there is inside. It's like Dr Who's phone booth. Can confirm also that car V-max's at a very respectable 209km/hr indicated and, as you managed to discover, gets around a bend quite nicely. We have five cars in our family and it's a fight as to who is going to grab the keys to this little thing. As for Rubber Ducky Yellow? Yes, Yes and Yes. MUST! Cheers

Great video thanks Andrew! Looks to me like a high-riding Polo with that great little engine thwarted by the extra weight and short gearing (compared to the Up! GTI). That said, it will doubtless prove popular with a certain demographic. Throw nearly new into the mix and buyers can get a LOT more VWG for their money elsewhere.

As for paying for the extra air or height, the new 8.5 Golf Style is incredibly £4k cheaper than the same spec of T-Roc.

That's very sharp looking, cars seem to be getting ruined with facelifts these days, glad VW kept the T-Cross sharp looking 💛

Great review Andrew. I drove one recently and thought it was pretty good. I even found the engine is more fun to rev than the 1.5 eTSI on my Golf 8 which is not the happiest sounding at higher revs. Cheers, Tom

Thanks! You are right Tom, that 1.0 3 pot doesn’t have the feeling it’s been strangulated by emissions controls like the 1.5. Not sure how tough it is but at least you enjoy it
@tomashley58694 ай бұрын
Exactly Andrew! The 1,5 is brilliant at low to medium revs, and plenty fast, but not fun.
@richy_rude4 ай бұрын
bet the 1.5etsi feels more responsive than my MK8 2.0 GTD. That is laggy as hell.
@tomashley58694 ай бұрын
Hi there! I had a Golf 7 GTD, and loved it to bits. There was a slight lag, but once all that torque came rushing in, it was fast. It was also keen to rev. A very economical high speed mile muncher. Obviously the eTSI isn’t as fast, and doesn’t pretend to be. The 8 GTD is even more powerful than the 7 was, but I have not driven one. Cheers, Tom
@richy_rude4 ай бұрын
@@tomashley5869 well, with the MK8 GTD there's no surge of torque, it's a more linear power band. Under 2K RPM very gutless. Once it's past 2K RPM it picks up and will rev to around 4.5K RPM (In sport Mode) and just over 4K RPM in (Normal mode). IIRC Max power starts to go down after 3,800 RPM so there's no point revving it beyond that level (Even though Redline like 5K RPM). Comfort mode feels too sluggish, Sport feels too unsettled/frantic. Like Sport Mode holds onto the gears (As it should) but you have literally no power to play with - what's the point in the engine keeping me at 3,500RPM when the car physically looses power after 3,800RPM? I usually have it in Individual mode with Engine sound in Eco and drive in Comfort, then switch the DSG to Sport when needed. I just wish there wasn't that dead feel under 2k RPM, the accelerator pedal on petrol cars feel a lot more sensitive by comparison. It's meant to have 400NM of torque from 1,800RPM but you don't feel it. It's only past 2K RPM that car picks up. Plus the economy I'm only getting 42MPG around town. It should rule in the real world on paper, but alas it doesn't for me. It a comfortable car though (With those sports seats), I can't knock it for that. But for a GT model it left me underwhelmed. 200BHP feels more like 140BHP. Cheers.

I own the pre-facelift model as I need four doors so I can take my dogs out. Love the car but hate the GUI controlled by the steering wheel. Coming from owning Vauxhall and Peugeot cars where the flow makes sense, I find the VW a nightmare. Cruise on my 208 GTI was easy, press up button for 1 mph increase, on my T-Cross up sometimes means 5mph increase in speed, why? Try to reset the trip when I have fueled up takes me 3 minutes navigating the menus, wish VW just had a reset button like my previous cars. Simple things make a different, glad the T-Cross still has some physical buttons and it is not 100% screen only.

Going from an SQ5 to one as a rental, was pleasantly surprised. Was a new one, tech worked fine, the 1.0 engine a little raspy but perfect for Portuguese roads. Surprisingly “big” inside as well, swallowed up cases in its deep boot and bar the annoying lane assist / speed beeping was overall a nice little run about. £30K is a bit nuts, but plenty of sub £15K ones on AT if you wanted a “cheap” town car I suppose. Good review as well.

Good review, Andrew. SUV preferable for me due to my back problems but £30k for this particular car seems steep (and don't get me started on T-Roc pricing). Nearly new is now the way forwards for me but even VW dealers round here knocking quite a bit off cars less than 6 months old. Not sure I'd stick with VW to be honest, I think the interior quality now leaves a lot to be desired for the price of the car

How do the 95hp engine compare to the 115hp? Both 1.0L 3 cylinders. Have you compared them?
@robertmarkovic81042 ай бұрын
the 115 hp is much better, not only you get a quicker car but also you get rear real discs breaks instead of the 95hp version

Manual handbrake, torsion beam suspension , 3 cylinder engine with no hybrid option for this money. Vw living in dreamland with their massively overpriced cars. They should change their logo long time ago.It is no more Volks Wagen. It is more like Price Wagen. Quality went downhill longtime ago. Prices still going uphill. Maybe they didn’t realize that Covid time is over.

Yeah, it's a bit yellow for me. I'll leave it at that. I still can't get past 30k being a cheap car. Unsurprisingly I have no idea where this fits in the VW lineup either. Do you trust the ACC not to mis-read the road with dire consequences? Still, a good review as ever.

Still with a manual handbrake, looks so old school and not the best functionality in traffic with the DSG.

I drove one yesterday and I did fall in love with it. Going to downsize from my SEAT Tarraco Plugin hybrid because I want a smaller car and also a car that can handle winter as the SEAT is useless at winter roads. The little T-Cross felt so much better than my Tarraco and a lot more fun to drive 😁

@@olafall_sweden Maybe my comment was a bit harsh. My apologies. I forgot there’s car out there for everyone. Perhaps what I was saying was, would it attract a following for something like a Golf? I don’t think so, and I don’t think VW will be making a 50th edition.

Another inappropriate R badged VW. Real story... I dropped my daughter off at a friend's house two days ago. Talking to the dad who showed me his daily... it was a Tiguan and had an R badge on the side. I asked him if it was an R, and he replied, "yes." As I walked back to my car, I noticed it had fake exhaust trim on the back. So not an R... a fake R line that the owner calls an R.

T-Cross horrible vehicles. I felt like Postman Pat driving one with it's high driving position and small dimensions (The seats hurt the underneath of my legs too). I drove a 2.0 tfsi 190 4motion with 190ps. Didn't feel much quicker than a 1.2tfsi Seat Arona in comfort mode, and only really shined in sport mode. BTW I hated the Seat Arona even more, horrible and cheap nasty interior. Would never have thought it was VAG group. ( And yes, I know the Seat equivalent to the T-Cross is the Ateca)
@Cous1nJack4 ай бұрын
Ateca = Karoq = T Roc. Arona = Kamiq = T Cross. Tiguan has grown since its first gen but was yeti = at first.
