How about making a working man truck? V8 or V6 all non turbo. 8 or 10 ‘ bed. Hand crank windows, vinyl seats and floor mat you can hose out working man dirt. AC and Cruise is ok and cigarette lighter 0:15 phone charger. Short bed and sliding rear window so baby sitter can watch kids can play in sand box, while their momma can grocery shop. All OEM’s catering to office pinkies instead of working men. It’s where pickups got their start. Cram the tech and get price $25-30K. That would sell like hot cakes.

If you think you need a roof window you don't need a work truck.
@gpenrod5221Ай бұрын
I've talked to body and custom guys for years. Unanimously they always say that if you have windows/glass in your roofs on your pickup truck you are going to face 2 issues. They are both related. Because the truck goes through such rugged terrain, the body flexes like crazy. issue 1 - leaking water around the glass and issue 2 - On extreme flexing the glass will shatter. It has been recommended by heavy duty people I know who say never put a t-top or sky roof in a truck because you take away from the strength the roof offers and add in problems. However if you are only going to drive it on pavement then maybe you can deal with it then easy enough.

Phone bluetooth link is not needed. Charge by USB port. Sliding manual rear window okay. Keep controls off console. Simple analog gauges and controls best. Basically want a 1990s version with fuel injection. Why the need for 10 gears... always got by with 3 most of my life. The price of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks is ridiculous, we need a reliable no frills work truck that can tow 20k off the hitch and carry 4k in the bed and still be reliable and easy to fix. We don’t need park or lane assist, cameras and computers. Mechanical linkages and pumps, easy to access wear items like lights, batteries, etc that don’t require you taking the truck apart to access them. Give it capable off road abilities but it doesn’t need to be a Raptor or TRX. We just need front and rear lockers with good ground clearance.

In the day the average person could by a new truck and have affordable payments on a 36 month loan. Now days the price has inflated way beyond wages so now loans are most likely 70 months or more. Power Tail Gate on a pickup, really? How about a work truck with a bench seat, an AM radio with push buttons, manual windows & door locks, back to basics! I think that to make this work, a person needs to be able to pick each electronic system or leave it. Each person has different needs, and drives in different places. Ranchers don't need extra points of electronic failure. Drop the massive infotainment to a basic or deluxe option. Give 3 bed length options and 2 wheelbase options. 2 cab options, maybe 3. Personally I'd like to see an extended cab like Ford, but with the rear seats easily removed. My tools and dog don't need a leather seat, and neither do I, to be frank. I think offering 4x4 only would be fine, but I miss the trusted 4x4 lever activated transfer case. I've had the electronic and vacuum systems fail. It should be rugged enough to be able to have the floors hosed out, sealed electronics, and probably weather resistant seats. The standard 120vac outlets are pretty cool, I'd offer a military style slave jump start plug. This way you could have a plug for 12v and 24v charging if you don't have a battery booster on hand to plug in. Make the chassis greaseable like the big equipment, and like older trucks. Have both an hour meter and odometer standard for reminders on lubrication and parts maintenance. It's simple really, dial down the luxury for solid comfort without standard fancy stuff, have vehicles able to be configured for sportsmen to contractors to field service techs. These would be the people that know the reputation of the name plate and know that a fairly basic model still has what is needed to allow a long, comfortable day on site, or a place to cool down, or warm up the crew for breaks. I'd want a stereo that pulled in good reception on am/fm, because I always seemed to work places at the fringe of the good radio stations. 8, 10, or 12ft box, or cab chassis for dropping on a service box of some kind. Even possible to put these to work as rescue vehicles or ambulance work. Great possibilities for government contracts. Use those contracts to keep the prices lower for the public. After all, taxpayers pay for government contracts, and then pay the same companies for these other trucks. Oh, and please put some factory protection over those half shafts turning the wheels. I hope that rear axle is solid. I'd prefer a solid front axle for anything over half ton ratings.

Cheap and powerful doesn’t go together in one sentence. Stick to farm and heavy equipments

This doesn't really go thru the drive train and with a 500 hp diesel is it a half ton only or is there a 2500 or a 3500 option,plus how well will the chassis and electronics hold up in the salt belt?I know from plowing for 4 winters the cat loaders we have has suffered with corrosion and electrical issues from salt and dpf and def problems from cold Temps and idling.

My first truck a 1987 Ford F150 with a straight 6 with 2 gas tanks. No whistles and bells. $10k new. The base truck today has options that double the price. You can’t find a single cab base model anywhere because they don’t make them.

Please deliver me a demo model I"ll test it up here in Africa.

I love caterpillar equipment.

Looks like a ute tiny bed four doors. Infotainment is not for real trucks. This is cats, avalanche, which means expensive and useless. 40 k to 70 k is not inexpensive.

The fact that they didn't waste their time (and money) playing games with an electric version is impressive as well.

It's a Ford Ranger. Same offset platform. Ford and Cat have worked together for years on outside projects. Alas this will never see light of day tho.

John Deere is also supposedly bringing a pick-up to market.

Reliable? Cat tried to brand their own trucks before and they immediately got a reputation for frequent breakdowns. CAT got out of on-highway equipment entirely when they couldn't meet emissions. Not sure what standard of quality you're referring to, they've been on rocky ground for almost 2 decades.

Are all of the drive-train components their own or are they sourced from Ford/Chevy/Ram...?
@thomastessier4529Ай бұрын
Love almost all of it, except the electric part. Should be diesel powered.

Where will they be sold? How do you get info regarding a purchase?
@jesus2402Ай бұрын
I'm guessing I will give it a try. I worked in earth grading for a few years, and I know how durable cat equipment is. Besides, most trucks now adays are mainly a gimmick. I drive around in a 2001 f350, and I have a 2nd gen dodge ram 5.9 cummins. Love them both because of the reliability. I'm currently doing lawncare and landscaping, so I'm always on the road. I personally think it will do really well. I think the f450 or the f550 is already using a caterpillar engine.

Forget this yuppie box. Enough this is just a mouse pointing contractor statement. How about a real work truck!!!! Get real this is another joke ranch or limited clone. How about the ultimate xl version, big engine, no fluff, 8 lug, no options, ac, rubber floors, insane tough seats and doors.. steel 8+ bed that wont dent easy and NO 4 DOOR family car stuff. Diesel it with easy end user delete and retune in mind and you have a winner.
@billyclyde512920 күн бұрын
Does it come as a pickup also or just the station wagon format shown here?

Where do you even buy these things and where would you get them serviced at?? There’s no CAT dealerships anywhere that I know of
