This KTM offers so much potential with all its technological improvements. However, perhaps KTM should have invested the development money into improving their reliability and customer satisfaction. I know gizmos can sell bikes but I think the average rider would rather know that the engine worked every time and this is how to keep customers.

Ktm Bought a 1290 sas 2023 , never going to buy KTM ever again, abs pump issue causing panic brake randomly, started to have coolant lost 250ml in 4 days and counting , paint peeling everywhere on the clutch bracket and reservoir , battery drain issue , between 50-80km the steering will wobble uncontrollably , if you let go and will also go right instead of straight. There was also a chemical / electrical smell when starting in the garage KTM dealer said everything was "normal" . The adaptive cruise control took them a month to fix . F them , i traded it and never looking back , lost thousands but that was better then keeping it. Dangerous bike. Believe everything you see in forums about KTM , it’s not exaggerated. Extremely unreliable!

Totally understand. I ride a 2017 KTM 1090Adventure R; simpler and much fewer electronics, lighter weight and uses a key to start! Great off-road suspension. I added a Rekluse auto clutch, a Scott's steering damper, a Power Cell intake system, removed the rear passenger pegs, added KTM rally pegs, and a Yoshimura lightweight exhaust now the bike rides much safer off-road and feels much lighter. I would NEVER consider any new motorcycle with all the complex electronics and wireless ignition, I want to ride and relax, not be constantly distracted by a seemingly infinite number of computer controlled functions that when they malfunction, a tow truck is called to safely get you home. Sorry you had the problems with your 1290. My next bike will be a 2013 KTM 990, never a new one.

Not interested in the more road oriented models, especially with that funky auto transmission, but I am interested in seeing how the R model looks and hoping it will just be a standard manual transmission with up/down quick shifter. Also curious if they've changed the fuel capacity and the weight at all. More power and torque is always welcome on a SUPER adventure, so that's great to hear.

There won't be a non-AMT version for the EVO model. However, you can ride an AMT bike as if it where a regular manual from what I understand of it.

Kind of funny, I was just thinking that they made the headlight even more hideous this time. I wouldn't trade my 1290's headlight over to this hideous thing. I ran out to buy a 1290 when I saw how hideous the 1390 Super Duke's light was as I didn't want to get stuck with the ADV version of it. Seeing it now, glad I did. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

KTM is trying to catch up with me. I have a 2020 KTM 1290 SAS. My goal was to transform the bike into a true sport tourer. So first was a 17" front wheel, then an Arrow racing header , with Austin racing V3 250. A Rotwieller stage 5 , with Power Commander 5 map. Then, a change to Metzler M9 RR rubber and a power parts ergo seat. Last but not least, Puig 40 mm offsets bringing the pegs up 1" back 1" , it needed a stainless sandwich to support my weight on the pegs. Lastly, since I am big 6'5" 270 lbs , upgrade both the monoshock and front fork spring to match my weight. The results are stunning , I get approximately plus hp and 106 ft lbs of torque, and the handling is sick, as I also reduced trail . I put a 180/55 R17 rear tire on it , while it works well and makes turning effortless, because you have a 5" rim the sides are really steep. It is not optimal. So my options are going forward arre to a 170 profile Metzler M9 RR rear, which they make now, or put a 5 1/2" rear rim on it. Other than that , the bike is a freaking beast. Wish KTM would make an S model with an option for a 17" front. ⁹

I’ve got a 2020 SD GT, and I absolutely love it, the fastest and most incredible bike I’ve owned. But I do a bit of long distance touring on it and I really like the look of the super adventures, plus looking at starting some off roading. I’m hoping these will scratch that itch!

different tires fixed the wobble for me. The current gen SAS is actually very stable in corners and on the 1000ps KZbin channel they put a professional racer on one and it had very good track times around a Motogp circuit.

I was expecting a 17 inch front wheel that the test mules were wearing (or was that the alleged 1490!!??)....The front headlight area is improved but overall it's not changed much. No electric windscreen either. Not sure about the "iPad" screen either, I presume navigation will be integrated?....Not interested in an auto so I'll be keeping my 1290 SA-S for the time being.

@@BlazinBlades no really, I have had 1290's the past 8 years in the form of dukes and adventures. I follow most of the bigger FB groups and never heard of a 1290 failing unless user error. The cam failures where only in the 790/890 models.

@@tubejorrit oil leaks in the dealerships, unsolvable head shakes above 90 mph, complete electronic failures, Bikes being at the dealers for months on end only in the first year of ownership… and more None of that really reached you? Do you need YT links to owner videos describing the hell they’ve been through or do you want to try and search for yourself? Forget about the 7/890 thats a whole different ball game. The outcome is the same though KTM making it extremely difficult for customers to receive proper compensation or even recognition of the bikes issues… This is the reason their sales are drastically down all over the world and their share prices are plummeting. When you (4 letter word) on your customers it’s bound to hit you in the face twice as hard if not harder…

Easy choice. Go with the new BMW models. Fewer mistakes made there. OK, there is a brand new (and good) automated shifter. That's it! 😭. There is a missed opportunity to completely redesign bugeye (signature 🤣) front end. And, seriously KTM, why would you copy Ducati with that silver front triangle? Terrible. Go ahead and paint the engine gold! Circus! But choice of a front dash takes the crown. What are you smoking over there in Austria? After having seen the Super Duke 1390, I went out and bought the Gen 3 1290 SAS, as I hated the new KTM headlight and didn't want to get stuck with it in the new ADV (not that the previous light was good looking either, but hot damn this new light is something else). Having seen the new bike, I do not regret my decision to get the 1290. The new 1390 is even more hideous...somehow. It doesn't even feature anything all that much more over the previous bike. All the extra new tech seems so unnecessary, and I say this as a techie that loves tech on his machines. Automatic transmission and auto stop and go? Really? On a bike? Only thing the new bike has that I would have liked is the improved foot peg positioning and, of course, the slight bit of extra power. Apart from that, honestly, it isn't offering me anything that my 1290 already doesn't give that I want. At this time, I feel no need to upgrade my 1290. Happy with it and will keep it for many years to come. Love my 1290.

I am just staggered at the sheer,brutal hideousness of these bikes. Every tweak that gets done to these bikes, even just a small thing like the front radar, makes it uglier! This is freaking nightmare fuel! Go out of business already, KTM! I can’t take anymore retinal abuse! This is getting ridiculous. I keep waiting for some kind of design overhaul, but it’s getting pretty obvious that that’s never going to happen! KTM really is this demented! The best looking thing about this bike is the box that it came in. This motorcycle is so ugly it would make a train take a dirt road. If I ever see this bike on the road,I’m going to give its rider a wedgie. But I will say one thing about this bike - there is simply no way they can make it any uglier. Not even KTM can do that.

@@xgamershub they redesigned the followers and head 2022 for the 890. 790 wasn't in production at the time. Now 790 is made by CF Moto as their budget mid size naked presumably with the same fixes and the 990 is their Austrian made premium mid size naked. 890 engines made 2022 and onward should be fine when it comes to cam wear issues.

If you've paid any attention, the V-twin engine has NOT had cam problems. The 1290 engine has been pretty much bulletproof. All the issues are the parallels. You have to be more nuanced than "KTM = cams". That's Muppet level thinking.

Extremely disappointed in this model as have no money. Free bike plus insurance, plus fuel, plus ferry fares, plus sweet accommodation, plus no commitment to give anything back in return may change this...................mostly.

Lets hope the cams on this are not built in China otherwise they will have even more warranty claims then they currently have, KTM's styling alone doesnt do it for me and I would not trust there reliabilty currently especially at the price point they are asking cosidering how many of their bikes are built in China with sub standard materials and assembly quality.

nothing wrong with the cams, its the oil supply to them that's the problem.

It's not the Chinese made 790s which suffered that cam wear issue, it's the older Austrian made ones.

The larger 1290/1390 v-twins weren't suffering from the bad oiling on their cams. It's limited to their midsize parallel twins.

Yes, cam issues on earlier 790's and 890's is an oil supply issue. . I have a 2020 SAS and a 2022 SDR EVO. these engines are bulletproof.
