I started on a 390 and now also have a V4 800. Strictly engine, the 800 always just accelerates till about 260kms. The gearing is also longer and displacement bigger, so I decide what gear to be in.. Ofcourse your refering to racebikes, so those will be different. More extreme? Torque varies.

Original Aprilia/Rotax v990 60° Vtwin. Owned 3. Currently have a 2001 rsvr track bike with 22,000 miles. Valves never needed adjusted on the 2 street bikes. Sold those 2 street bikes with over 70,000 miles. Not as powerful as a modern liter bike but I've never been enamored with 200 horsepower specs anyways. Similar reliability to the suzuki sv650. I had a Vstrom 650 with 67,000 when I sold it. The notes from all valve checks showed it never needed a shim from the previous owner.

I personally like my bikes with a lot of electronic aids, with the understanding that such electronics make the bike considerably less reliable but far safer. Insurance companies, who presumably keep detailed statistics on this type of stuff, give you insane discounts if you have ABS. So while older bikes from before circa 2016 can be reliable, they're also quite difficult and dangerous to ride.

I have that thing some rips for a time when my brother used to own one (Warrior). I later went for a Demo on a Yamaha Raider with the 1854cc bigger engine. The cbr1000rr were the same from 2008-2016. The 2017+ is the same bike, but with rider aids, and minor engine upgrades. I have a 2021, and it’s the best way I could have spent $15,400 on a sport bike in August of 2022. I’ve put every single one of the 19,000 miles it has on it, and it hasn’t missed a beat. My recommendation if you're considering a new RE would be to just get a used bike, something with middle mileage will not need a lot of ongoing work, will hold it's value better, and just feel less cheap than an enfield. Hey im in uk and am thinking of getting one of the 350 enfields as a first bike when i actually have money. Would you reccomend this or should i try to find another? Do i just get a low capacity sporter just for more reliability? -I like the look of the meteor, -Dont care for speed theres a track 15 min from my home(want atleast motorway speed), -I lke the meteor but dont want a cruiser, just something old looking but not old if that makes sense.

I'm a Honda guy though and through, but the '08 and 09 CBR1000RR's are notorious for engine problems/failures. Especially the 08's. Just wanted to throw that out there. Also, stay away from the 2017 FZ/MT-10's. Horrible throttle response which made the bike super jerky even riding at slow speeds on a less than perfect road. They also have a hard time passing gas stations. I owned one. It was one of the worst bikes that I've ever had in the stable. That being said, the Ducati Diavel WAS the worst bike that I've owned. SUPER high maintenance, and the particular unit that I owned, had electrical issues that caused it to stall or die when rolling up to stop signs and red lights. It was in the shop 3 times in my only one year of ownership. I sold it for a loss because I didn't want its spaghetti dripping Italian cooties to make their way to my other bikes. Ducati left such a bad taste in my mouth that I swore off all European motorcycles and will only go with the Big 4 from Japan from here on out. Primarily Honda or Yamaha. I own both brands at the moment, 2002 CBR954RR, 2010 VFR1200F, 2014 FJR1300A

Pro tip: You don't ask the wife about stuff like that. You just go out and do it. Don't tell her, and let her find out on her own months later when she can be bothered looking.

You recommended a 2008 cbr1000rr? The bikes that notoriously, along with the 2009s,burn more oil than a total loss bike made in the early 1900s? Okay..

Most of them, at this point, have been fixed, or they wouldn’t have lasted this long. The 2008 had crank issues, and both had oil consumption issues, but they’re non-issues now. They’re great bikes. They went from 2008-2016, though, and didn’t have issues after the first couple years. I have a 2021, and it’s the exact, same bike, except for the electronics, minor engine specs, and fairings.

@@exothermal.sprocket I can't remember the bikes that werent reliable (gave them many tries) I just remembered they weren't the last try with kawi for me was a jet ski and that was a 2012 stx12f. so now it's yamies for skis and Suzuk's and Buell's for bikes. You have to excuse me in 50 and have owned alot of stuff I just know kawi and me don't get along...... And for the record BMW is the same boat as kawi. I mean I like there product but will never be me owning it I just look from afar! 😉

@@exothermal.sprocket yes I know that about the buell but we get along better then the kawi and I. Yes alot of them from a 1990 zx6r up till when I have up on them around 2008. The tried again with the ski.... So yes gave them many chances.
