UPDATE: Just took delivery of an XSR900 GP press bike for the next 2 weeks and immediately recognised the right hand switchgear from this video. So it looks like they've borrowed it for this test bike, and it does indeed house the sensor for a RBW throttle. As such, I'd be very very very surprised if the next version of the T7 doesn't ship with more up-to-date electronics.

If it ain't broken don't try and fix it. If they change the looks they'll probably spoil it. If they try for more power, they'll lose the low down torque, and it doesn't need any more tech, it's simplicity is a selling point.

It always amuses me when “influencers” say the T7 is “lagging behind the competition” with a “lack” of technology. That’s what makes the T7 superior to the competition. I’m selling my 890 Adventure because my recent acquisition of a 24’ T7 is more of what a purist is after. I hope the 24’ T7’s TFT dash doesn’t get moisture on the inside like the KTMs, or the cam issues that many owners are going through… luckily mine checked OK at the 11k service. I’m just glad the T7 is finally readily available here in the states. Yamaha, don’t change too much. The rocker switch, you can if you want, I don’t mind it. The exhaust needs reworked so it won’t hit the swingarm after crashes, and upgraded suspension would be nice. Maybe more fuel capacity… maybe, not a huge thing. Otherwise, keep the price low and we can mod it ourselves.

It's the false equivalence of "more technology" being "leading." Perhaps more customers would think along the lines of "this vs. that, this has more than that" and buy the thing that has more whizzbags. But these days, I just don't look at technology the same way in all aspects of life. I often look at technology as invasive, privacy-destroying, the tools of corporations to gain control of my life, dignity-destroying, laziness-inducing, and brain-restructuring. Why must everything trend toward less use of one's mind and more convenience? Who or what gains control of our lives in this trend? There's a certain amount of things that individuals need to be in control of and that's just life, that's the way biology/economy/energy/life is; either you are responsible or that responsibility is consented to someone else. Simplicity is often better. I would like motorcycle companies to figure out more simplistic ways of making the riding experience better, which does not mean STUFF THAT DAZZLES THE EYES. I'm talking about brakes and suspension function, and engine flexibility. I don't mean more power, but I mean broader power and more efficient power and more flexible power.

@@mountainridersvk Thank you. Good points. Overall weight might be OK, but top heavy to me is inexcusable. IMHO it comes from lack of passion for dedicated off-road engines, which these days seem to be the same story with most manufacturers; To save cost, they build one fits all purpose engines, which then turn out to be tall and top heavy. And people are OK with it? 🙈 In some ways I fault the end of large displacement Paris-Dakar bikes and the corresponding lack of competition in that class. I have an older XRV750. It's 62 horsepower is more than plenty with most notably a very low center gravity. Which makes it super easy to handle, even far easier than my 600 single cylinder.

Realistically all the T7 needs is tubeless wheels and it will be pretty much perfect. Cruise control would be nice but that means TBW. Most can live without cruse control or just get a throttle lock for $100. The tubeless wheels is something that’s very important to most riders

An adjustable seat would be great for shorter riders. For me it is low enough, but for my friends the bike is just too tall. The Africa Twin has an adjustable seat. Personally I would like just a little bit more power on the newer bike even though the engine is the showpiece . I’m old school and love the simplicity of the T7 but you can’t argue that on long transition days across France for example cruise control would be lovely. Also for me just upping to 18 litre tank would be enough so you can comfortably get to 200 miles range.

Tbh with you, I honestly believe what we are looking at here is the facelift World Raid, not the standard T7. I’ll qualify what I’m saying based on the width of the lower faring, the shot that shows two openings on the rubber camo cover for 2 fuel caps. It has a new rear linkage probably to lower the seat height (the current T7WR is high).

I bet that new linkage is for lower ride height. It is a pain point, all competitors are lower. In the current T700 upper shock mount is right under rider's crotch. So the seat can't be lowered. With the new linkage, the lower mount of the shock significantly lower than before, so the upper point could be moved lower too. So lower height with the same clearance, travel and shock. Exactly what T700 not so advanced riders need.

You need to fix it somehow or you need to ride on flat tire to the first possible service, or fill the tire with grass or whatever its available around = remove tire anyway. I think the basic simple “ tech “ package is in my opinion.is all it needs But if they had a “ more tech “ upspec model “ would also be good for those that want that . A bit more power would be nice , but not necessary- as you say just to be competitive with the other boys .

Perhaps this tenere is a world rally or raid and that's why the air intakes are there and the riders legs are tucked in to the tank as where on the stand tank the tank doesn't mould around your legs.

A big part of the appeal of the tenere is the simplicity of it. Drenching it in tech would ruin it and it would just disapear into the crowd of other bikes that have been left to long in the electronics department.

I owned one for a few years. I think it needs a bit more hp, cruise control and lower the weight/bring the centre of weight down with split tanks. The bike always looked awesome. Better suspension. Braided brake lines. I felt like with the old bike it needed a few mods to make it good. Put better grab handles on the back and a little rack. Most other bikes come with that. I sold mine mainly because the power was very boring (Coming from owning a lot of dirt bikes.) and even though it was a good bike it just didn’t have the magic that I wanted.

Total Speculation thanks to a partial cover over all of the changes. I am fine with no Electronics.. If they want more power and lots of Electroncis simply produce a bike with the CP3 in it . They need a True Wide Ratio Gear Box .. and Please Copy KTM with a very low center of Gravity gas tank.

You can't have a wide ratio gearbox on a bike with a narrow band of power. That's why all powerful vehicles have a close ratio gearbox.
@mikeskidmore6754
@mikeskidmore6754 4 ай бұрын
@@chrishart8548 What on Earth are you talking about? The CP2 engine has a good wide Power band. The gearing it has in My FZ-07 the biggest problem is that there is very little difference between 5th and 6th gear.. 6th gear needs to be taller for high speed cruising and slighter better MPG and less engine wear.. In a T-700 they simply lower all the MT-07 gearing buy using a larger rear sprocket. Which kills your highway cruising and still leavers you with a first gear too tall for Trail riding ect.. Lower the gearing with the sprockets plus use a lower first gear and a taller 6th gear for Highway cruising at the minimum . As a matter of a fact the CP-2 motor has enough torque to shift from 3rd to fifth or second to fourth gear with out bogging it down much .

@@mikeskidmore6754 I think I heard triumph gave the tiger 900 a lower 1st gear and a tall 6th gear not sure how true that is. I see what you mean though. I think someone who never takes the T7 off road would be happier running mt-07 gearing.

@@chrishart8548 I know the ratios that my 2016 FZ-07 runs they are in the owners manual. The T-700 runs the same gear rations. Between having much more horse power .. the much lower gas tank .. and Possibly a wide ration Transmission .. I might buy a Husky 901 instead. Back the good ole days the Brochures always listed gear ratios. The Yamaha YZ-450 and WR-450 have close and wide Ration Transmissions. Back in the 1970's Husqvarna's were either WR or CR models with wide ratio or close ratio transmission. I always went one tooth bigger front sprocket on my dirt bikes for Trail riding ..

A removable rear Subframe and an Option of a lower seat height ( frome the suspension ) are the things that I would like to see. Yes yes I know..what's the purpose of lower suspension travel on an adventure bike! Bear in mind that not everybody rides like the riders shown in the videos, for the average Joe a 1 inch less travel won't be such the end of the world, Just my Opinion.

Yamaha might as well go for it, make it an 850, keep the 700 in the lineup, update the suspension, give us in North America the World Raid trim (suspension and larger fuel tank, slung low) and go after KTM's performance but remain a reliable Yamaha. Still dying for Kawasaki to do something...
