Could be completely wrong here, but the small piece of art we got does remind me of the Sonic Frontiers 2 leak we got, the world does look a bit more colorful like it described, as well as there being a castle/kingdom area we can briefly see. And maybe its just how the clouds look but it does look it might be in the sky or a very high area like the leaks described. This speculation could all be BS but we will see soon what this means.

I don’t expect to hear much news or announcements about the next mainline 3D Sonic until maybe late next year. But after how much Shadow Generations was able to improve over Sonic Frontiers, despite being a smaller release, has me excited to see what SEGA and Sonic Team have in store.

One thing not discussed in this video is that this concept art is using the final model and running pose of Sonic from Frontiers as a reference that the artist used when painting this image. They tend to do this for various Sonic games earlier on in the conceptual stages (there is concept art of Sonic Generations that the artist used the Unleashed model as a reference, and Frontiers even has some concept art that uses the 06 model as a reference). Basically what I mean by this is that the concept artist may have taken a model that they have on hand and put it in a software in a specific pose to use as a reference when creating the new concept art. So the fact this uses the Frontiers model and running animation pose, then this concept art is likely something made very soon after Frontiers finally wrapped up and they started working on conceptualizing the next title. Admittedly it could also be the Forces model and running pose (which would make it a good candidate for a Frontiers concept art), but to me it looks closer to Frontiers. Plus considering how it doesn’t match the concept art of Sonic Frontiers whatsoever, and actually looks closer to the final product that is Frontiers, tells me that they are using Frontiers itself as inspiration for this piece. Which would mean it can’t be a Frontiers concept art and has to be for something new.

@ they want Sonic and the rest of the cast to have a consistent design, and that design is the one used in unleashed, colors, generations, and forces unfortunately. Kishimoto has made some posts about wanting to get new modes for the new game so we could have a chance to have better designs.

Shadow Generations' hub world definitely feels very much like a refinement and test of the mechanics for a Frontiers-style sequel. It's clear the game isnt running on the Sonic Generations version of the engine but rather the Frontiers one, and my guess is that if ever theres a good time to test the next potential phase of your engine, it'd be as a "DLC" game. The hype behind said game was just a huge bonus. So yeah, I'd say they're fairly far along already with the next one, or at least far enough along that they feel comfortable testing concepts in public

I can confirm this. This is Sonic Frontiers 2. Why? Because you can see the Frontiers model in the image. And it seems you can see a little bit of Kronos Island in the background. The windmill is obviously a reference to Sonic Unleashed. The wooden fence is featured in Frontiers as a secret I can say about it. The grass means Sonic Frontiers 2 is in production. The sky is taking inspiration from Sonic Frontiers so far. Everything looks like it's from Frontiers. So this confirms that Sonic Frontiers 2 is in production

I feel like it's got to be concept art we've never seen. It's the same run/dash animation frontiers, and similar concept art of sonic frontiers use the games animations. This must've been very early on in development which is why we see wooden fence and building despite things like that never being in the game. Must of just been one of the many directions they were going to go with in terms of island design.

If Sonic Frontiers 2 does happen, there’s a lot of things I’d like to see get added, but the thing I want the most is to have Amy, Knuckles, and Tails be playable again like they are in the Final Horizon, but have them actually be playable in the main campaign instead of an optional side campaign. Playing as them in the Final Horizon was cool, but I kinda wish you could play as them in the main campaign after beating the main story and 100%ing the Final Horizon
