WIth regard to handling, I'm in two minds about Nissans of the era... If you trust them, they turn in well and stick to the road quite well compared to contemporary cars. However there's a fair amount of vagueness and body roll going on in the feedback department when you're, initially, not hustliing them, which is not exactly confidence inspiring, Also, the gearchanges can not be rushed, at all, which feels ad odds with the hight revving engine. Maybe I just don't "get them", compared to German cars.

Good purchase, the fan resistor is a simple repair, it's behind the glovebox next to the fan motor. It has two solder bridges that act as fuseable links but they do get corrosion on the joint so a few minutes with a soldering iron and job done. I've had a P10 and a P11-144 estate and done that repair on both.

This is one great car. Yours has the aerial way back which means it was made before Renault started to cut costs. (The aerial was way out front on later models to save some coins on the coax wire.) We had an estate version of that with the 1.8 QG18DE engine, and we loved it all the time we had it. It went to Belgium and Lithuania (not on the same trip, obv) and never as much as missed a beat -- save for a used-car warranty repeair on the sync rings.

More work to do , the lists are growing but satisfying when the job is done . I’ve been looking for a wing for my jag s type for nearly a year in the right paint code and good condition . Found one eventually in good order and delivered yesterday and fitted today after dismantling all the front end . I stood back when I’d finished and the car now is almost perfect , just 2 cats to fit and a crankcase ventilation filter and all ready for mot 🤞. You have inspired me to once again get my hands dirty on my own car and save some money too . PS I’ll let you know about the aches and pains I’ll be in tomorrow , I am almost 60 😂 . They seem to be different all over the world. Here I'm new Zealand, THE SR20DE, was rated at 170bhp with a 7900rpm redline, the one I had in my p11 primera red top was a pretty decent engine. Was torquey down low and powerful at the top end. With a long ratio 5 speed box, it was good for 260kph.

I’ve always stood by the motto, I’ll only buy what I can afford to buy outright, I’ll never finance a car. I’d much rather drive an older car if it means it’s mine, and I’m not paying out monthly for x amount of years on it. My friend had finance on a 2009 BMW, by the time it was paid off it was time to sell it almost, and at a fraction of the cost it was to buy(without the extra added on for borrowing)😂
@Nypartcannon
@Nypartcannon 3 жыл бұрын
@@jonnygti it’s a funny one some people have no interest in cars and prefer a monthly outgoing to enable them to get around without having to worry about breaking down etc but owning something you’ve worked hard to buy just feels more accomplished especially if cars and engineering are an interest of yours

I've had my '98 Maxima for 8 years now and even shipped from the UK back to NZ coz I couldn't bear to leave it for some eejit to mistreat it. Bought it with 57k on the clock for £850 and when it was inspected for NZ licensing, the under body and chassis rails were unbelievably clean and free of rust, which is unusual for any 20 year old British car. Plenty of parts for it here in NZ, coz they were very popular.

Wow! This takes me back to my Nissan Primera SRI P10 I had for my 21st birthday also on a P plate (it must have been the last year before the P11) great memories and I remember the heater developed the same fault with the resistor. You may be lucky with the air conditioning, it may have a sensor that won't engage the compressor below a certain temperature. Good luck with the car :)

Nice one! Those engines do like a rev or 6000 ;-) I ran a '98 P11 GT in 2007 and did 25k faultless and fun miles in it, save for a puncture from runing over debris on the M1. My brother ran it for another 6 years and 60k until the MOT repair bill became bigger than the value of the car. It's still a regret of ours that it was scrapped at only 138k.

The wipers are part of the mot ,but like everything its been dumbed down by successive governments so that everything is " pass and advise ". Ball joints slight play, suspension bushes, wipers are they effective ? If they move water they are. Lights if they work ...ok, headlight aim within the markings of the beam setter ok, doesn't matter if your HID's not set to the specified value and your now blinding people as long as they are in the "band". LED's don't even go there.. so many more... basically if your car fails the mot it really is crap
