I think I’d paint the edges of your riser black instead of white & the spacers a cream to match the newspaper print top. I do like the grain sack stripes on your second riser with the distressed black paint.

I’d just put some dark wax on that white in between riser. If you put clear on first you can rub it back to where you want it.

Yes paint the sides black and on one of your legs there is a little brown peeking thru.
